Kongo suspended one game

What a bitch move by CT and his gang of minions. The son of a bitch never liked Wyoming, so this is no surprise to me.

Suspended 1 game for targeting. Poor decision by the MW.

I agree but what caused the suspension was not the hit it was the throwing his arms up after the hit as it made it appear as he had lunged at him.

Hawkins was a horrible coach, and even a worse color analyst on ESPN U.....i didn't see that hit, so I can't comment on that but we're deep and we'll be fine.

About the 3:40 mark.

Never knew what hit him

When the guy leaves his feet like that and is lunging forward like that......That's not targeting when it is your guy doing the hit, but if the guy leaping like that was a Toledo guy and the guy getting hit was B-Smith, we would be saying something different.

Kongo was engaged by a blocker first, makes the hit legal. These types of hits happen on kick returns, and you can't compare protection for a kick returner to a QB. The difference is the hit against Toledo was flagged during the game. The refs during this game didn't feel it was a penalty. They probably thought that because a kick returner isn't defenseless and he engaged a blocker before the hit.

Will there be any conference investigation into why the player was put back into the game shortly after the hit? I would assume that more field action on a possible concussion could have very Bad longterm ramifications

Personally I don't agree with the new targeting rule. I think you should throw a flag sure, but suspending someone is a little much on a football play that happens so fast and frankly the kids have NO chance to avoid a hit like this. That being said, I don't have a problem with the suspension, in the base definition that hit was "targeting" and they made the right decision to enforce it. I thought it should have been flagged on the play but it wasn't. The rule may be stupid and none of us like it, but based on this rule it is correct that they made the decision to suspend the player.

The angle on this video makes it look like it was a shot to the head. I can't find any of the other replays that show it more clearly.

If you go to:
http://www.youtube.com/html5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Enable the HTML5 player

Click in the lower corner - settings -> speed -> .25
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj4PWc5N9So" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Go to roughly 3.40 into the video

It doesn't look as bad in slow motion, but you can tell after he hit the blocker he ricochetted a bit. I don't think it was an intentional hit to the head.

What I noticed is AFA's blocker puts his head down and leads with big helmet into Konkolongo. When Kongo makes impact on the blocker, the blockers head snaps back into LeCoste. At the same time Kongo makes impact with LeCoste. Kongo's helmet went straight to the breastplate of LeCoste. But he was also not only going forward but up after the initial impact of the blocker.

Rule 9-1-3: Targeting and initiating contact with the crown of the helmet. No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul.

Rule 9-1-4: Targeting and initiating contact to head or neck area of a defenseless player. No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, fist, elbow or shoulder. When in question, it is a foul.

WHEN TARGETING OCCURS

Ninety-eight percent of target fouls occur on four types of plays:

1. Hits on receivers.

2. Roughing the passer penalties.

3. Hits to the ball carrier, either the quarterback or a runner, in one of two positions, upright or going to the ground.

4. Blindside blocks.

He first initiated contact with the blocker then hit the ball carrier. Second, the ball carrier is was not defenseless. Didn't a Airforce player have a blindside block that rocked one of our players, no foul ,no suspension. Hmmmm I smell a government cover up!

I'm not too upset about this decision. I thought it was a borderline hit. I don't think Kongo had any bad intentions, but he did lead with the crown of his helmet and launch himself.

How could he launch himself? His feet, as shown in the pics, never left the ground, and bounced off the blocker into the ball carrier with 0 time to "launch himself".
