For all you anti-DC people, yes the inconsistency sucks, yes he acted like an ass after the AFA game, and yes cutting Josh sucks, but if we were to start over now, who in the hell is going to come to laramie right now that can actually upgrade the talent from what DC has?
Nick Saban aint leaving Tuscaloosa folks.
We lose DC now, then like J-Rod said, we are in for a tough reality.
We are in for a good season, assuming Brett Smith stays healthy.

Christensen has also done a hell of a job in besting CSU for many recruits.

He also brought the new uniforms which have been instrumental in getting players and for our football brand in general. He treats WYO like a big time program and the players act like it!
 
Yet this thread goes down the path again with the assertion that winning trumps all. The point I am making is that it doesnt IMO.

When I was in school CSU and Utah were our biatches.....as were most schools. And I'm only in my 40's. One bad hire and we are still trying to climb out of the mess. Start winning on a consistent basis, and Wyoming will rise again.

And bullshit about losing DC. We're still trying to climb out of the hole left when Vic Koenning was hired. DC hasn't got us to where I think he can. If he does, then losing him then would be much greater than losing him now. If he doesn't win 6 games next year he'll be gone anyway.

Koenning is a great defensive coordinator, but he was Mike Locksley bad as a head coach. Players hated him, he killed the fan base, and averaged like 2 wins a season over his tenure. You can't destroy a program like that in an area that's already hard to win in and expect to bounce back quickly.
 
The brutal thing is that, once a kid has so many credits, he can't transfer to another, more-affordable school to finish school without losing a significant number of credits. Kids in this situation aren't going to the NFL., so the degree is what they are supposed to get out of the play for scholarship deal. There isn't a school around that will award a diploma to someone who has only earned a semester or two of credits after transferring in 3+ years worth of coursework. The problem is worse for kids who are from out-of-state and do not get the sweet local tuition deal.

I'm sure Josh will get in-state in New Hampshire. He graduated high school there and has only been in Wyo for school. But luckily for him since his Dad lives in Laramie he could get in-state here as well.
 
This thread makes me laugh.....A scholarship is an "At Will" agreement. Once awarded it isn't magically there for the next four or five years. You must continue to be the best athlete in order to keep the scholarship. If someone comes along and they are better then they deserve the scholarship. Plain and simple college football is a business and make no mistake about it.......the best athlete will be rewarded. Problem lies in who determines the "best athlete". Josh is a great kid but an average athlete, DC made a call on his athleticism and he felt Montgomery was better. So he took one walk-on's scholarship and gave it to another walk-on. Same type of thing happened with Meredith, DC didn't think he was athletic enough to play and when he told him so, he quit. Its a business and sometimes not a very friendly one!

I always laugh when you post stuff like this......you talk as if Wyoming has been a conference championship winning machine in the past. CDC has been better than most Wyoming coaches.....and you're in for a tough reality if Wyoming loses him.

15 conference titles in 119 years. Only 10 of those outright titles. 11 of them happened before 1976.....please quit acting like Wyoming is Alabama. It isn't.

Simply not true. Since joining the NCAA "Major College" classification, the Pokes have had 17 head coaches. Only 7 of them had losing records (including DC). A couple of were notably worse than DC including Koenning, Oakes (coached from 40-46 during WW2), and Shurmur (after the Black 14). DC is comparable to the other 3 losing coaches in terms of record (Glenn, Akers, and Lewis) who all had similar winning percentages, bowl appearances, etc. Akers would get the nod IMO as he took over a bad program and built up to the Fiesta Bowl and a conference title in his 3rd and final season. Glenn and Lewis were mediocre like DC.

So, basically DC is roughly 12 or 13th out of 17. I would not consider that better than most.

For reference, CSU also has 15 titles with 9 of them occurring before 1955 (8 of them before 1934).

I don't know if Josh is coming back from New Hampshire this summer and I don't know if he is still on the team as a walk on again.
I know his dad lives in Laramie so Josh has always gotten instate residency, so I think that DC and his staff know they can use that as an excuse to not give him the scholly and tell him "well you can walk on again, cuz well ya know, it's cheaper for you and you already have done it."

It's bull shit all the way around.
He came from the New England area with a dream of playing college football.
He came to Laramie, and worked his ass off.
They gave him the scholly. He played some special teams, in the season, and during practice always did what was asked.
Didn't fuck up.
Then they pull his scholly.

I never said we should pull Sellers scholarship though!
I said maybe someone on our team will get booted for being in trouble with the LPD again and then I got called an ass hole for saying I wanted Sellers scholly pulled, even though I never did.

I am not for pulling Sellers sholly OR J-Smiths scholly. What is your point?

How did Sellers even get the scholly? It looks like at Western Wyoming he averaged about 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds a game as a freshman. I mean, those stats show that over the next 3 years that he might grow into a pretty productive player but the problem here is that those stats would be productive as the juco level. Not the D1 level.
I think Shyatt jumped the gun too quickly trying to replace Wadell.

I agree cut the kid, he will have a scholly for school, kinda like Sylla did a few years ago.

Good find. I guess I did say that, but I don't feel that way now.
And that was in the middle of the season when we were starting to go downhill and I was probably pretty angry.
A couple months later I said no don't pull it, and I still say no don't pull it.

I don't agree with the whole "It's a business we need to win now so it is okay to pull schollies" thing.
These are promises to kids and it effects their lives a LOT.
They leave their old homes and change their lives to have a chance to play d1 ball, then you just take it away is kinda fucked up.
"Well nevermind kid, go back home and change everything in your life again."

I did say they should cut Sellers at one point but don't think they should now. He still sucks, and probably always will, but Shyatt made the decision and that is his to stand by. Same with DC.
 
Agree. I don't think they should've ever recruited him. Not fair to pull at this point. Especially at a university that seems to focus an awful lot on honor and integrity.
