I predict Dave Christensen will succeed!

I predict Dave Christensen will get us back to a level of success we haven't seen in a while, either ranked, or close to ranked in the season ending polls.

He is secretive with his gameplans and not friendly with the media. So is Bobby Knight, it is part of his persona, but most colleges in the US would hire him in a second (I know, I know, DC has not achieved BK success...YET). I think DC will succeed because he has already done some good recruiting, he has brought in what I think is a very good OC for this next year. He is a hardass, and has the mentality that no team will outwork us. Training harder in the offseason, and Playing harder and smarter during the games is how we are going to compete with ranked teams. I think he has the system to succeed, the drive to succeed, and he is willing to make changes if something isn't working.

In his first season we went from having some of the worst special teams in football, to winning close games with special teams. We went from underachieving to overachieving overnight. Given a little more time recruiting and I think the talent level and depth will catch up with the system and coaching ability and we will all be satisfied.

I remember when some fans thought Tiller would not lead us to success, his contract was not extended, and we have never recovered yet. DC is smart enough to seek advice from Tiller, and even Lubick, to find out what is needed to be successful on the front range.

I guess I missed something regarding "lying" and Eric Smoldt calling him on it?

I think DC is a tough guy, tough coach, with a good system, and he is willing to make changes when he sees they are needed. If down the road DC succeeds and gets a bigger offer, I think with Gregg Brandon in place we might have an heir apparent, and can keep some continuity for once. I also like that along with Brandon (who has UW experience) and Greener, we are adding more coaches with UW experience like the younger Ray.

I truly believe that UW is on the right track. I felt that way about Glenn after a couple years as well, so lets hope I am right this time.

One of the biggest mistakes in the history of WYo football was chasing Tiller off. Look how long SDSU waited for Fisher to figure that place out and now they are rolling in BB. Patience is tough but there also has to be signs of progress along the way and I see those in DC as well. We are probably more athletic now then we have been since Tiller was recruiting.

I also see good things ahead but who knows. Just get better each year and show signs of great things in the future is all I ask for now. LAst year was a blow but two years is not long enough to judge given the lack of speed that was on the team when DC arrived.

I also think DC will succeed here. One of the things that I like the best about him is he is building the team the right way. He is building it for long term success. Last year there were several players that could have came in and played and pushed for starting spots but DC kept their redshirts because it would be better in the long run. Thats why I don't get why people assume he will jump at the first chance he gets. If the right opportunity came along would he probably leave? sure but to assume he will leave at the first team that comes calling I believe is wrong. He is building this team for long term success with his system.

Actually, DC is probably just following the "Pinkel redshirting scheme". Pinkel is notorious for playing the best 10-15 true freshman in one class...followed by the next class having almost every single player redshirted. Pinkel feels it gives him an advantage in that you have the best of 2 recruiting classes moving through the program and graduating at the same time. With DC being an assisstant under Pinkel for so long, I would assume DC is employing the same scheme. Don't be surprised if we once again see around 15 true freshman see the field this year.

whatever works, bowling every other year and eventually competing for conf championship every other year.....i would be fine with that.

Agree! And when he was hired everyone knew that if he has success then he will move up in the world. If he does move up, then hopefully we can keep some of the assistants on board. That being said, I really dont think he moves up for 2-3 more years, after we have some mulitple years of success.

Remember, he wants to be here. He wants to succeed. He will never move up in the college football ranks if he does not show any consistancy.

About Joe Glenn....I, like most, really liked that guy...but he was/is a TERRIBLE D1 football coach. He was not a great recruiter and he put his staff before the players and the program (like not getting rid of COCKhill in a timely manner).

DC will succeed because he has that drive. He is teaching these young men how to be champions on and off the field and holding them accountable for their actions.

Coach Christensen's success will be his ticket to a bigger job. It also means that Wyoming's football program is back. With Gregg Brandon on the staff, I can see Christensen moving on in two or three seasons and Brandon taking over. That's a win-win, if you ask me.

Guess we won't know anything for sure about this team until after the first game this fall, but right now I sure don't see anything to complain about. Sounds and looks like we have made some good moves and have some good new players (and coaches) on this team.

bumping this thread that was a response to one from theman.

Well, 7-4, and a chance to go 8-4 with a win over the sheep, for the first time since, what, 1998?

Yeah, I'd say he's succeeding.

DC needs to make one more big move. He needs a new Defensive Coordinator. This defense is brutal. I have no faith in stopping the run, and Boise proved that this past weekend. This game with Boise really wasn't close and they ran ALL OVER us all game. We are definitely making progress, and I believe we will see changes on the defensive side of the ball after the season is over. I just hope they bring in someone that can put some Breske-like defenses together. If that happens, then I believe we will be a top 25 team sooner rather than later.

Also, DC is a smart guy. If he begins to get things done in Laramie, who is to say he won't stay. I remember watching an interview with Chris Peterson a few years back and he mentioned that he had gotten advice from previous coaches (clearly Hawkins) to STAY at Boise no matter what the offer because you had something that worked and worked really well. If DC can get the Pokes to a top 25 ranking on a consisitent basis, why leave? Possibly the Washington job would lure him away because that is where his heart is...but Laramie is a special place and each year DC stays, I believe he will become more comfortable. I hope UW will find a way to pay him more IF he continues to win and try to keep him! finding 2 or 3 million a year from a state that has Billions in the rainy day fund should not be a problem. Unfortunately, it has been. just my humble opinion.

I don't know what to make of English. One minute I think he stinks, the other I think he isn't that bad. The D did shut down the #7 team for a half. I think it comes down to the D-line. Any four man front that can slow the running game down on their own and get pressure on the QB during pass plays will make any D coordinator look like a genius. I feel the D line is still too small to stop the run on their own which exposes the rest of the D. We still have LB's at DE and undersized DT's. I'm not sure if it gets much better next year. Yarborough and Puletasi will fill in nicely at DE but as good as they've been, purcell, durbin and hopefully a Mertens at full weight just aren't quite big enough to be the run stoppers we need. We need another big JC DT and hopefully a big high school DT recrutit or two. Maybe Riley Lange goes back to the D-line? Losing Strong to the O line has helped the O, but we lost some size on the D-line.

We have definitely moved to more of a 4-2-5 with Anderson at LB. I guess Nzeocha wasn't cutting it on coverage because I haven't seen any of him lately. It's too bad we didn't redshirt him this year.
