If you did - who do you think you're kidding?
I was at the game with my son and my brother, the crowd was great, the weather was perfect...the team was wretched.
How anyone could get even a little bit excited at the prospects of a bowl game at this point is well beyond my understanding apparently.
Aside from the inspiring opening game performance in Lincoln and the game against the Zoomies, there has been absolutely nothing to get excited about with this team...looking at this club on both sides of the ball and one should check their credibility at the door when thinking this team is worthy of post season play, and I don't care how insignificant or how low level a bowl game you might be talking about.
This game earlier today put the 'UG' in UGLY, man.
Then again - as I watched the game unfold - I asked myself why I or anyone else should be surprised?
Today was a continuation of the miserable play that has been building in momentum for weeks now.
Cannot tackle & wrap up today. Where have we seen this before?
No pass rush. Where have we seen this before?
Turnovers. Where have we seen this before?
A defense that gets pushed around and blown off the line of scrimmage by the opposing offensive line. Where have we seen this before?
An awful coaching decision to pooch a kickoff after gaining some slight momentum with our first touchdown today. Where have we seen this before?
I know what we do see mostly every game the POKES take to the field with each weekend -- with the rare instances of solid play the last few years.
What we do see is defined as: MEDIOCRITY.
The above word is what has me as frustrated as anything.
It is why even if they do get to six (6) wins this season and become bowl eligible I will consider this a misleading season.
I'm tiring of the consistent inconsistency of this football program.
WYOMING fans, among the best in all of college football, travel from hundreds of miles in many cases to watch...to watch what exactly?
Have you EVER seen a college football team that simply cannot master even with a little success the art of making tackles?
Have you EVER seen (as has been the case a few times the past few weeks) multiple WYOMING defenders surrounding an opposing ball carrier...yet WHIFF COMPLETELY? I cannot speak for others, however, I have NEVER seen that, and if I can recall such a case I cannot recall it with the appalling regularity of what I see from Wyoming's defensive unit.
Preparation and readiness? How does CSU come into our house playing like it's their last chance to ever play a game and winning and losing will define their ability to live another day...yet WYOMING comes out flat and tattered?
All game long several members of our defense ( I use that word loosely) were waving their arms in the air on 3rd down plays and urging the great WYOMING fans to make noise and assist in getting a stop. A stop? If the POKES defensive players got even 1/4 of the stops as they did in waving their arms in the air for crowd support they would have won the game.
Last week all we heard about was that'; 'they won the game' against New Mexico.
Those (like myself) who protested that the win was far from a thing of beauty were shouted down by the liquid brown and gold army who dare to question our passion for the POKES.
Do not question, instead, get a grip on reality, and understand that the state of the program is in shambles, going backwards, with the rot that has been slowly but surely eating away for weeks on end...going all the way back to last season's shipwreck.
If this is the best that we can expect as WYOMING fans, if one step ahead followed by two steps back, and occasional inspirational moment here and there spread out over 3-4 years, beating up on awful CSU teams for 4 straight seasons...if this is the best we can expect, and if my (and others) expectations are too unrealistic...well then I stand corrected on virtually everything I have written.
I don't do mediocre.
It's a Cowboy shame that our football program seems to be defined by the word.
Then again, maybe mediocre would suffice as compared to what we saw out there today?
Awww, what am I talking about?
Get me to six (6) wins so we can go bowling in a game that is as irrelevant as our football program is...and then allow me to sit back and read how our season has been a success because of this by mere simpletons in many cases.
Yes!!!!!!
