Did someone say Bowl Game?

If you did - who do you think you're kidding?

I was at the game with my son and my brother, the crowd was great, the weather was perfect...the team was wretched.

How anyone could get even a little bit excited at the prospects of a bowl game at this point is well beyond my understanding apparently.

Aside from the inspiring opening game performance in Lincoln and the game against the Zoomies, there has been absolutely nothing to get excited about with this team...looking at this club on both sides of the ball and one should check their credibility at the door when thinking this team is worthy of post season play, and I don't care how insignificant or how low level a bowl game you might be talking about.

This game earlier today put the 'UG' in UGLY, man.

Then again - as I watched the game unfold - I asked myself why I or anyone else should be surprised?

Today was a continuation of the miserable play that has been building in momentum for weeks now.

Cannot tackle & wrap up today. Where have we seen this before?

No pass rush. Where have we seen this before?

Turnovers. Where have we seen this before?

A defense that gets pushed around and blown off the line of scrimmage by the opposing offensive line. Where have we seen this before?

An awful coaching decision to pooch a kickoff after gaining some slight momentum with our first touchdown today. Where have we seen this before?

I know what we do see mostly every game the POKES take to the field with each weekend -- with the rare instances of solid play the last few years.

What we do see is defined as: MEDIOCRITY.

The above word is what has me as frustrated as anything.

It is why even if they do get to six (6) wins this season and become bowl eligible I will consider this a misleading season.

I'm tiring of the consistent inconsistency of this football program.

WYOMING fans, among the best in all of college football, travel from hundreds of miles in many cases to watch...to watch what exactly?

Have you EVER seen a college football team that simply cannot master even with a little success the art of making tackles?

Have you EVER seen (as has been the case a few times the past few weeks) multiple WYOMING defenders surrounding an opposing ball carrier...yet WHIFF COMPLETELY? I cannot speak for others, however, I have NEVER seen that, and if I can recall such a case I cannot recall it with the appalling regularity of what I see from Wyoming's defensive unit.

Preparation and readiness? How does CSU come into our house playing like it's their last chance to ever play a game and winning and losing will define their ability to live another day...yet WYOMING comes out flat and tattered?

All game long several members of our defense ( I use that word loosely) were waving their arms in the air on 3rd down plays and urging the great WYOMING fans to make noise and assist in getting a stop. A stop? If the POKES defensive players got even 1/4 of the stops as they did in waving their arms in the air for crowd support they would have won the game.

Last week all we heard about was that'; 'they won the game' against New Mexico.

Those (like myself) who protested that the win was far from a thing of beauty were shouted down by the liquid brown and gold army who dare to question our passion for the POKES.

Do not question, instead, get a grip on reality, and understand that the state of the program is in shambles, going backwards, with the rot that has been slowly but surely eating away for weeks on end...going all the way back to last season's shipwreck.

If this is the best that we can expect as WYOMING fans, if one step ahead followed by two steps back, and occasional inspirational moment here and there spread out over 3-4 years, beating up on awful CSU teams for 4 straight seasons...if this is the best we can expect, and if my (and others) expectations are too unrealistic...well then I stand corrected on virtually everything I have written.

I don't do mediocre.

It's a Cowboy shame that our football program seems to be defined by the word.

Then again, maybe mediocre would suffice as compared to what we saw out there today?

Awww, what am I talking about?

Get me to six (6) wins so we can go bowling in a game that is as irrelevant as our football program is...and then allow me to sit back and read how our season has been a success because of this by mere simpletons in many cases.

Yes!!!!!!

I actually agree with everything you have said. (and that is rare)

...I've never been a sunshine pumper of this team as I've always recognized the weakness of the D....but I never would have thought to see such a pathetic display in front of a packed War Memorial vs. CSU.

...It truly is a rough day to be a pokes fan

And mediocre is much too kind for today. There was not even a glimpse of Cowboy Tough.

Eloquent and accurate Doc. Today was one of the worst performances I have ever seen as a Cowboy fan (and I've seen literally hundreds over the years). Time for some big changes in Laramie.

How big?

Provide me with your remedy to cure what ails this heading backwards football program?

Appreciate it and look forward to your thoughts...

Well Doc, I would start with unloading Burman. He never was AD material to begin with. He proved that with his hire of Schroyer, and his rewarding coaches handsomely for mediocre performance. Perhaps Wyoming's new University President will give him his walking papers. Wyoming needs to find a good AD....perhaps poach a tested veteran AD from a successful Division II school, or look for a retired coach (similar to a Paul Roach) to come in and take over. Until that happens, we will have to be content with the occasional 6-6 or 7-5 season (every 2 to 3 years) and a trip to some garbage bowl game.

Anybody with half a mind that watched Wyoming today cannot truthfully say this team is any good.

I'm thinking contract extension for the coach.

Seriously, he needs to go and take most of the staff with him. Unless we see a miracle finish to this season, and I'm not talking another couple wins to get to 6-6, he needs to go. No use firing him now, as then some poor ass assistant will step in with all his philosophy, that will change 2 months later when we get the real coach hired. However, a reason to let him go sooner rather than later is so we are on the radar of every potential candidate. Or if we do put Coach K in charge and plan to keep him there for next season as well, then he can start molding the team his way. For the most part, besides his first season, when no one expected anything, it's not been an impressive run. Even the 8 win season a couple years ago was partially due to playing a couple FCS teams and a handful of walking dead teams, like UNLV and New Mexico. He's had his 5 years (almost) that everyone said you need to turn a team around. All he's done this season is finally figure out how to score more points than Glenn's offenses. He still doesn't get defense and only hopes special teams do okay. He's been saying it's the deepest, fastest team we've had and that "I built this thing", and he's got a QB that is going to break every offensive record at the school, yet here we are. You can't fire the team...

You nailed it! Burman is the mastermind of an overall mediocre (at best) athletic department. It can no longer be overlooked that Wyoming only has two MWC championships IN ANY SPORT and they happened in 2001-02 (I believe).

What a fucking joke!

Was at the game today. Never felt so disgusted at my own observations and predictions. If Yank' has a hair on his ass, he'll respond...

That was a pretty bad game and I was very embarrassed to be there. However, I am still pretty confident in my bet

"we are who we are"...Tom Burman's vision for Wyoming excellence :tickedoff:

You seriously think this team has three more wins this season? Really?

:lmao:

Hey Doc, sounds like you need to find a new team to support. Wyoming is what it is, like it or not it is all we have. We will have good years and we will have bad years and yes we will even have mediocre years. It is the nature of the beast, try to recruit a "big time" player to come to Laramie, Wyoming and see how far you get. It doesn't happen that often. Lets support our kids. I am a Brown and Gold fan and have always been one. Growing up I would have done anything to wear that bucking horse on the side of my helmet....now my son does and I am damn proud of him for all of the hard work and sacrifices that he has made and is going to make. It is a little appalling to me to hear someone say that Wyoming doesn't prepare.........people have no idea how many hours of film and meetings and practice that goes into a week of practice at this level.

Now granted everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I will never judge anyone for the choices they make in life. So Doc, there are plenty of other teams in the MWC that could use your support, and if you look far enough you could even probably find one that is winning this year. If that doesn't work out you could always change to another team next year or in two years. ;-)

We are not a good football team, but the rest of this league sucks just as bad as us. I do think that DC must win at least 7 games or else he is gone, and likely Burman as well. I think SJSU is a very winable game, Fresno is winable depending on which team shows up or that one could also be VERY ugly, and Hawaii is a should win game. USU is also a winable football game while Boise will be a blow out.
