Too bad Ryan Holmgren never writes anything about the Cowboys, like everyone on this board has led me to believe.

Go ahead and point out where anyone here said Holmgren "never writes anything about the Cowboys"! You are worse than a 3rd grade girl with that drama horseshit.

I especially liked his "research" on this topic though...specifically his tweet that stated, and I quote, "Looking for a UW fan (living in state) whose attendance at games is hindered by a long drive."

Sad fact is that by you overly defending him, it is making me go the opposite direction, which isn't fair to Ryan. ;)

I am seeing more and more coming out now. First summer here, he will catch the groove.

Agree, I see more coming out now as well. Wonder what the inspiration was.

I see he changed his Twitter picture to him on top of Medicine Bow Peak! Way cool. The fact that he got out and hiked the peak earns my respect and shows he's embracing Wyoming. :thumb:

Could it possibly be that now we are getting into the College Athletics time of the year...He's not here to cover MLB or NBA...Whats he supposed to cover from April through August?

FuckinA are you for real?

Don't you honestly remember everything Vorel covered in the off season (April - August as you put it)? Just because the stands are not full, doesn't mean it is just time to say fuck it and report absolutely nothing. Damn.

I am, indeed, for real.

If there is nothing to report, what is he supposed to write? You obviously know more than he does, what is he missing reporting?

The point he is making is that there are still plenty of interesting story lines in the off-season. Vorel wrote several articles despite it being summer, I'm sure a little digging would reveal interesting stories on new players, conditions with returning players, interesting upcoming matchups, etc. I don't know how much or little Holmgren is writing, but to claim there is nothing to write about over the summer is absurd.

Ryan seems like a great guy based upon my previous conversations with him - but I think people are missing the point.

The emphasis of the point was on the amount of content Vorel consistently delivered in voluminous helpings, compared with what has inarguably been a much lighter dispatch from Holmgren. Anyone disputing the significant drop-off is kidding nobody but themselves.

Last summer Vorel was unconscious in the way he regularly wrote about UW Football...when there was nothing going on but to check this board to see what it was that we were all talking about. Vorel had a new angle almost every other day last summer. It was silly.

When I conversed with Vorel prior to his departure and asked his objective opinion of this new guy Ryan Holmgren, Vorel responded by telling me that not only was Holmgren a good writer, but that; "he's very hungry", as well.

I'm not personally ready to render a complete grade on Holmgren's stay with the CST to date -- but I have weighed in on his ability to keep pace even a little bit in contrast to Vorel's work when he was here.

Lets just say that the best thing to happen to the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle was Vorel's departure because thus far, Holmgren has failed to achieve the same kind of exhaustive writing and coverage that was a consistent trait of his predecessor.

He hasn't "reported absolutely nothing." If that's what you think, you have blinders on and aren't paying attention.

He got to town at the beginning of offseason. No hoops to report. No spring football. No contacts built up. What did you expect him to write other than the news that was reported about recruiting and Nance at the NBA Draft?

Also, in journalism, there's something called timeliness. It's better to publish a story about football leading up to football season, not three months earlier. That's why summer months are usually quieter. That's why this series is coming out now and not in May.

Was Vorel on the job only a couple months when he was producing this content? That's the standard people here are expecting Holmgren to live up to.

I've made the point previously, Josh, that there was no 'ramp up' period for Vorel. He came onto the scene and was blazing from the moment he touched down in Laramie. In fact, I remember a few times saying to myself; 'this guy just got here and he's writing like he does nothing else in his life."

It was stunning. It's also why he's now in South Bend writing about Notre Dame Football.

I think it is somewhat unfair to compare Ryan to Vorel.

I think Ryan is doing a better job than many before Vorel did.

Look at Vorel's twitter from this summer ... he is putting out a ton of stuff for Notre Dame football. So when I say it is unfair to compare Ryan to Vorel I would say it is unfair to compare 95% of the writers in the country to Vorel because honestly Vorel seems to be one of those one in a million guys in his field that goes all the way to the top. Guy is a beast.

Like has already been said... there is a reason he is at Notre Dame now.

As an addendum to what I have already written, I think it's only fair to make mention that Ryan's most recent piece http://trib.com/sports/college/wyoming/football/wyoming-faces-unique-set-of-challenges-to-bolster-attendance/article_06cf19a5-55d1-527d-8525-c723954d6464.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; was outstanding and I think more reflective of the kind of writer that he is. Great work - looking forward to the rest of the series this week.

To derail...

"The schedule's not the schedule that our fans love..."

Way to motivate me to buy some tickets Tom! F'ing hate the man as our AD! At the very least he's so uninspiring - the anti-Bohl/Shyatt.

I knew it would come back to Burman at some point.
