Wyoming fans are about as passionate as they come.

The map shows passion towards college football in general, not just to one team. It's saying that, compared to other states, Wyoming likes College football a little more than others. Doesn't mean jack for UW specifically.

And it's all based off of facebook, which means it's totally true.

As passionate as they come? Yeah right. The 12K at the USU game really showed that.
Show me any program that would get better attendance with a population of 30,000 within a 5 mile radius and less than 100,000 within 100 mile radius....on a Friday night at 6:00 pm with state high school playoff games going on.

Name one.

ps. The attendance was over 14K if you want to bring some facts.

I don't think there are any other programs with a population of 30K within a 5 mile radius and 100K within 100 mile radius.

But this is the stuff I was talking about.
Anyone else and that is bad attendance, but "for Wyo that's not all that bad". Which is bullcrap.

Beaver, nobody is saying it wasn't bad. But attendance at Wyoming games has a lot to do with allowing the fan base to drive. The Poke fans are passionate and a large percentage drive over 2 hours each way to attend the game. Thursday and Friday night game just don't work in favor of having a highly attended game.

Oxford, Mississippi. Population is comparable to Laramie. Closest town larger than 30,0000 is 50 miles away. They're known as one of the best tailgating environments in the country.

Of course its not fair to compare wyo to ole miss, but this shows that population isn't an excuse. It may not be cold there, but the humidity in late August/early September is just as miserable for their fans as our cold.

Except Mississippi has almost 3 million people in a state half the size (in total square miles) of Wyoming.

Yeah, I'd bet there are 3x as many people within a 50 miles radius of Oxford as there are within 50 miles of Laramie....maybe more. Memphis is only 80 miles.

Ole miss also has to compete in state with the no. 1 team in the country. They're also sandwiched in between Alabama and Louisiana (programs with a much more successful history). Wyoming is the only school in the state. You could also say we're the closest fbs school for many fans in neighboring states such as Nebraska, Montana, and the Dakota's.

My word! What is so hard to understand about population and proximity? For a major program there is no other situation quite like Wyoming's. We are very sparsely populated. There is no other major program that has our problem - relatively small school in a tiny town with no other big/moderate sized towns close by. It's a wonder that we get the attendance we do. It's a huge commitment to come to a game for anyone that does not live in Laramie or Cheyenne and if the weather's bad even, if you live in Cheyenne, you have to risk your life just to come to a game.

The point of the map is that although Wyo has been sub-par on a competitive level in this generation (after 2000), and Boise State has been in the conversation nationally in this generation - Wyoming is a passionate school about it's Cowboys. Beaver, you've got to calm down and look at the facts. Boise State has had the run of the table and they are not much further than we are in fan support in the region. The Pokes have been out of contention for nearly 3 decades on the field, and we still rate as a considerable force in the Rocky Mountains. Winning on a consistent basis will solve so many things, and until that day comes we are who we are.

If Bohl has done it elsewhere at a place like Fargo, then we have a legitimate chance to win a MWC and that is the bar we need to surpass. The bullshit bowls we've played in aren't worth a damn, and to even be relevant we must win this league however lousy the league is in it's present state. Remember back a few years ago when it felt we were heading somewhere with Christensen? It never materializes when coaching staff changes, and kids look elsewhere for the type of program they can be successful in. As hard as it is to admit we are at the bottom of the feed chain, grasping for any nugget of survival and until we move consistently in the right direction we have to work hard to get there. Bitching, complaining and offering only summary observations on how shitty we are helps no one. Not the kids, the Coach's or the program. So, get real and start talking up how great the program can be to those whom you can affect in your circle of influence. We need to stay the course and do what we can to gain momentum. The board is a place to voice our frustration and I for one feel that often. However, I always talk affectionately of UW, it's lore and beauty outside of the great state of Wyo. Its my place, and it's something special at the War or AA on Saturday.

That and attendance tanks (unless we are playing CSU) in November, regardless.

If Wyo would just win I wouldn't be this way.

Remember how I used to get ripped for being too optimistic?

Yeah, we can all see a drastic 180... And it's quite annoying, and not just from the "Only Sunshine Pumpers" perspective either.

Eh, I'm still optimistic about hoops, because there is a reason to.
I am just tired of hearing the same crap about how we are headed in the right direction in football when nothing has actually been done to prove that.

If Bohl can win these final two games meaning we get to play one more game (and hopefully win it), then yes I will lay off, and quit with the bitterness of being a let down Wyo fan once again.

Beaver (you have heard it before) but I have been regularly paying attention and attending Wyoming games since 1971 when Fritz Shurmur took the helm on the gridiron, and 1973 when Moe Radovich took over for Bill Strannigan in the tree bark lined floors of the Fieldhouse. And I have been let down more (as such) than you can probably imagine. And more than you could probably mentally handle - given your current condition. ;)

I thought about giving you my number, and asking you to call me in 40 years...so we could discuss how I really feel, how you really feel after 40 more years, and all the shit we waded through as a UW fans. But then I realized, I will be long gone by then. Six feet under. DOA.

So...please Wyoming, please. Win some conference titles, go undefeated, make the final four, do something in the next 30 or so years that is fantastic. Something I can really revel in. Bucket list shit...bucket list. Something that involves tearing down goal posts, nets, and has a big trophy attached to it. I don't want to die a disappointed Wyoming fan.
