Colson Coon and Luke Talich

He’d be at Wyoming if he were my kid
He’d go where he chooses if he were my kid. Kids should follow their heart and what they believe will lead to achieving their goals.

From all accounts, Talich grew up both a Wyoming and Notre Dame fan. He knew about his family’s legacy at Wyoming and knew about the educational opportunities at both schools. He made his choice and it’s hard to argue he didn’t make a damn good one going to a premier academic institution and contributing in his second season to a team likely headed to the college football playoff.

Why can’t we just say congrats to the kid for living his dream? I personally find it a neat story to see a small town Wyoming kid have this kind of athletic success on a big time stage.

I am happy for Talich. It is his life and his choice where he wanted to try to play. Same thing for Colson Coon. With the portal if they ever got homesick for Wyoming all they would have to do is put their name in, but my guess is they are happy so do not expect to see that happen.

I get the WYO love, but I imagine a young athlete wants the challenge of being at the highest level of competition. WYO and the MWC is not the highest level.

I don't begrudge him a bit and pretty cool hearing "from Cody Wyoming" during a Notre Dame broadcast.

I wonder how many WYO kids have played at Notre Dame?

I remember Steve Dover, the all world running back from Kemmerer who graduated in 1975 went to Notre Dame. Dover only played three downs in 1977 before he ended up injured and never saw the field again. While he got a great education, I think a career with Wyoming could have worked out much better for him. He was competing against too many big time athletes. Joe Montana was the QB, Jerome Heavens and Vagas Ferguson were the starting running backs (in 1979 Ferguson was 5th in the Heisman voting). Myron Hardeman and LaTraia Jones were the starters for Wyoming in 1977. Dover was definitely good enough to be ahead of Jones on the depth chart at Wyoming. As they say, we will never know.

If catching a pick 6 in garbage time for ND makes you happier than playing for Wyoming and trying to outshine the family, so be it. Don’t really care just like I wouldn’t care about Kiesel except he played for steelers

It is always fascinating, when a Wyoming prep athlete goes elsewhere, to see the different reactions. It says much more about us than it does about the recruit.

Screw kiesel, screw the popingas, screw Cooley, screw taven bryant, screw James Johnson . Any kid that grows up in Wyo and turns his back on the University of Wyoming is dead to me. Talich is way worse because of his legacy. Good for him and his garbage time TD. Yippee

Screw him. Glad he got that garbage time TD vs one of the shiddiest programs in America. Hope he likes riding the pine vs actually making an impact.
I'm sure he'd much rather be playing for two-win Wyoming than about to travel to the College Football Playoff. I'm a Wyoming fan, but come on. Our team is horrendous. His has one loss.

Was Kiesel offered by WYO? I thought his uncle or something had connections at byu to get him a walk on spot. Been a long time ago so might be totally off on that.

let me clue you in, f*khead. The Talich family are devout Catholics and have 2 favorite learning institutions: U of W and Notre Dame. Any level headed kid, especially one raised in a catholic household, who has the talent and ability to play Div. 1 CFB...when presented with 2 offers (U of W and Notre Dame), would 1,000% of the time pick the Fighting Irish. LanderPoke, you're too stupid, too backward and just a piece of Sh!t to analyze that fact. Looks like Talich enjoys playing for a 1 loss team vs a 1 win team.

This isn't the first time you've laid out a despicable post to slam someone's kid. What a worthless azz you are and no doubt your only friend is the internet. It would be very entertaining to see you go face to face with one of these parents and say the Sh!t you say. Now, f%k off and go away, dooosh

Lmao
Neat story. Is he psychic? He knew Bohl would retire and we’d have a poor year this year? lol. He would have committed to a good Pokea program and would have been part of a 9 win team last year, fool.

Talich doesn’t love UW that much, obviously. He’s not a Cowboy and will never be one and I don’t give a shit about him. Deal with it

Would love to introduce you to luke's father, Jim Talich. Come on up to Cody, tough guy and I can make it happen. Of course, an internet piece of sh!t like you couldn't handle a man to man, face to face encounter. what a putrid little coward you are, attacking young men while hiding behind a keyboard. Man up and come on up to Cody and spew your garbage in person

I find it interesting that there is animosity or indifference towards WYO born athletes for not attending UW vs UW not creating an environment to capture local talent.

Accepting of mediocrity.

I hope nobody "loves" UW in the actual meaning of the word. Fan love...sure. Sports is great but let's not act like rooting for a team whether it be college or pro is some higher calling of selfless sacrifice. At bottom, these are entertainment providing, profit seeking business structures. I'm glad that people can create traditions around them that can be enjoyable and a way to connect with one another, but let's keep the passions in their proper place. When you don't keep the proper perspective the negative side of this definitely crops up and you get all the bad stuff like hooliganism, threats, and protecting stars even in the face of abhorrent behavior. Another side effect of this is that sports businesses (and they are businesses) abuse that emotional connection with ever spiralling costs justified by, "don't you love your team?". My answer: I don't. I enjoy the athletic enterprise when it's executed well....at any level. Got a good high school program?...great..that is awesome and so much fun for a community...same for pro and college.

There is no way that the mindset implied by your comments is in any way positive. You say you don't give a sh!t about them...if that were actually true you would have never wrote a post to begin with. Action = investment. Saying, in effect, "F those guys", is ridiculous on the basis you are doing it.

TLDR. Brevity is the soul of wit

First off, why is there a discussion of Wyoming high school players on the Univerisity of Wyoming Football board? This board is for Wyoming football, not those that played HS in Wyoming - there is another board for that.

And more importantly:

This is a sports message board (for entertainment). It is not the gospel, it has no teeth, it is a vent / discussion / idea gathering of people with a like-minded love for the Wyoming Cowboys. Parents, Athletes, Friends of Athletes, and on and on, should avoid coming here (or any message board) IMO. It takes a thick skin. It can be trite, rude, and downright insulting, but again, it is a message board. Reader beware.
