yeah its kinda bittersweet

on one hand it helps BCS eligibility

on the other hand, I f-ing hate byu

Well, looking at it from a pure logical stand point, about the only other place they could have gone was the WCC for their other sports, which would have been a HUGE downgrade in everything. Plus, after September, who would schedule them since the WAC is basically dead now?

That's exactly the point. I would have LOVED to see BYU go under as a football program as a result of their attempted treachery.

Utah St. as the 12th team over Houston? Did you read the comments under that article... BYU fans are freaking ridiculous!

If true, this is retarded. I can only hope the MWC didn't give anything to BYU in order to get them to stay (tv rights, bigger share, etc.). It's ridiculous that we have to cow-tow to these dolts in order to maintain a "business model" as Thompson likes to put it.

Here's a thought, let's keep BYU long enough to gain AQ status, and then kick their butts out! I realize that won't happen, but letting them dictate the conference is freakin' ridiculous!

GO POKES!

It's not just the program quality that BYU brings to the MWC though; it's people. Wyoming is the least populated state in the nation, and other MWC states have similar dearths of population. The conference needs the money from the television viewers of Utah, but beyond that, it needs recognition. And the recognition won't come from a state who's entire population would be a small city in most other states. It's an ugly truth of the business.

Which is why Houston is kinda sounding like a good idea

Unfortunately, this summer has turned what once was a collective group of teams going after a common goal (AQ) to a conference much like the rest. A year ago everyone seemed to be rooting for BYU to take out Oklahoma, TCU to run the table, and all MWC teams to fair well out of conference.

That solidarity was unique to our conference and I miss it. Even for all my "Whitlessham invented pink" jokes and displeasure with conference trolls coming to our site to stir the pot, I still rooted for them against every BCS team, and in every bowl game. And, quite frankly I am a little disappointed that they (Utah and BYU) would want to leave an entire conference that has been fighting so hard for them to get the respect they deserve. Yes, I do understand why Utah would go, and it is hard to blame them. But they are throwing away rivalries, and hurting what I thought we all were working toward - AQ status.

Utah and BYU fans may say we did nothing to help the BCS cause over the last several years, but we know we did. We were beating SEC schools and winning bowls games in efforts to prove how good the entire conference was, not just us.

Although I recognized it before the reporters mention it on the Mtn Summit, and realize it is not an original thought (how unique the MWC solidaty is/was), I still think it is a valid point, we USED TO pull for each other.....after this summer, I don't think so............Why would I root for teams to prove how good our conference is just to leave the first chance they get? We seem to be falling into the same trap other conferences are in....a habit of pulling each other down, rather than lifting each other up.

Sure there will be the consistent fans that may always hate certain conference rivals that will never change, but I feel myself not caring about how the other schools do, when it used to be important to me in our quest for AQ. Maybe Wyo, TCU, or AFA going undefeated will bring that feeling back of arguing how good the MWC is to anyone that will listen and that the conf champ shoud be in a BCS game, but right now with Utah and BYU I do feel betrayed and don't care how the strength of the conference will help them.

So right now, I guess I will root for MWC teams (current and future), except for Utah and BYU---screw you guys for letting some of us root for you and taking that for granted.

I think as a whole the conference still pulls for each other pretty hard. If you read the MWC Board you see that it is pretty much every school together against BYU. Then again, the hate for BYU has always been there. It is early, but the Fresno State and Nevada fans have fallen in line pretty good as well.

I think the other conference mates still trust each other, just really DON'T trust BYU at all. The rest of the league has two common goals... to be AQ status and to be the best we can be.

I hope this question doesn't lead off topic too much, but why do you guys dislike BYU so much? Does it all stem from the Black 14 incident or are their fans particularly insufferable or something?

Their a bunch of arrogant pompous pricks! Players, fans, admin... I could go on. That's why we hate BYU.
Seriously, they decimated us last year in Laramie, was that enough? No. At the end of the game they had a penalty called on them and you should of heard the BYU fans! "Oh, Let's give them something now! They haven't been able to move the ball all day, now the Officials have to help them!" Needless to say that sparked me (Sitting next to all the BYU faithful that day) and I stood up and yelled, "Sit down and shut up! It's not like you have much to yell about!" It was nice because some other Wyo fan chimed in, "Yeah! TCU 32-7!"
Nothing can be good enough for those people.
The way they see the conference is they walk on gold and we all kneel to their awesomeness. Bull! I'd rather kneel to TCU. At least they deserve conference recognition. They pull in winning seasons every year. They go to BCS bowls. BYU? Not so much. but they want to be on the pedestal.
Seriously, read their posts. Read what they say about the other schools. You can see the difference. They don't respect anybody in this conference. They just as well step on your face as look at you. And then say theirbetter some more.
But that's just my :twocents:

I have to echo that. I know a several really nice Mormons, but none of them are BYU fans :P

Even CSU fans are awesome compared to the 'holier than thou' types that BYU attracts.

I'm right there with you. My thoughts about BYU have nothing to do with religion. I also know several Mormons who are really good people, and none of them are BYU fans. These BYU people are arrogant, pompous, holier than thou, and believe they walk on water. But what bothers me the most is their whiney attitudes during a game in any sport. Players, fans, coaches, administration... all of them, bitching and whining about everything from the available facilities, to the officiating (especially if they lose), to the crowd (hostile or not), to anything else you can name. I'll never forget Araujo literally punching one of our guys in the face on the basketball floor, fist closed and all. Didn't get called for a foul, but did get a bit of a talking to from the ref and a chorus from the crowd (at the AA). He immediately starting bitching the ref out and whining to him. The next play he flopped on a drive, and of course got the call - then jumped up bitching again. That kind of crap pi$$es me off! :x And that doesn't include the fans comments, etc. Those can get even worse.

Look, I understand why the conference wants to keep BYU. I get it, doesn't mean I have to like it.

Buckeye welcome to our board, look at my post about WYO/Zoobie perceptions and you will see one of a thousand reasons we hate then.
What have you seen in the press back east about Byu's debacle ?
