Burman Letter

Burman sent a letter today indicating Wyoming will be signing onto the House settlement allowing universities to pay athletes up to $20 million annually.

His letter (if anyone can post) is otherwise full of fluff that Wyoming will remain competitive yada yada.

While I understand the settlement is being paid for by ‘withheld distributions,’ undoubtedly there will be requests for donations to cover that money loss. I’m not donating any money to the settlement share that Wyoming will be forced to pay . Wyoming is getting the small end of the stick. Borderline extortion. If Wyoming said no and took the case to trial, I believe damages would be many multiples lower. Who cares if that means Alabama is leaving us behind - - they already did a long time ago.

Can I copy / paste the letter here, or is that a no-no?

To me, it fell into the TLDR category...

500k is going to stress the ad budget but somehow the ad is going to share revenue?

Other than asking fans to contribute more and attend more, I didn't see much of a plan regarding HOW the ad was going to share revenue. Maybe that's the only option and we're screwed?

I'll say this, until student fee contributions and taxpayer contributions to the ad are 0, it should be criminal to share anything.

Good luck getting any additional funding via the Legislature. I am curious on some of the details of the settlement such as limits on the number of scholarships and the distribution of settlement proceeds to former athletes.

I would actually be pleased if the Legislature didn't CUT the UW athletics budget. Additional funding is absolutely out of the question. Reduced funding is a likely reality. For the first time in a very long time - if ever - a majority of Wyoming legislators ARE NOT UW GRADUATES.

I glanced at the election results and did not see anyone who I would consider to be a strong supporter of UW athletics among the names I was familiar with. I share your fear that the athletic department budget will be looked at as fat which can be easily trimmed.

Gary Crum was elected. Hope he can preserve what Wyoming Athletics and UW, as a whole, receives.

One member of the ‘Wyoming Caucus.’ Freedom caucus secured a supermajority this election. We will see astonishing cuts and legislation like we’ve never seen.
That sucks.

Ocean Andrew, or Andrew Ocean, whatever his name is, is from Laramie and part of that caucus. Defunding UW would kill his constituency in every possible way. He's dumb. I sure hope they don't follow through

I agree with a lot of what the Freedom caucus espouses, but why the attacks on UW??? Do they not believe in education? They desire the populous to be ignorant and uneducated? WTF

As a group, they truly believe college is a means to indoctrinate students with a liberal agenda and they seek to defund it.

The House settlement will reduce scholarships in most sports outside ot football and men's/women's basketball. But it's going to be worst for the men. Auburn has already announced they will reduce their men's swim and dive team from 40 to 22. If anyone thinks.college wrestling survives at all, I'd love to hear about it. Track? Fuggedaboudit. Hockey? See ya!

Men’s and Women’s swimming will be gone at most schools. I see it continuing at Wyoming because of the new facility we are committed to (otherwise gone).

I see Tennis and Golf being cut at Wyoming. Which actually makes sense.

Wrestling survives. It’s a money maker at schools like Penn State and Iowa. Womens’s wrestling is the fastest growing youth and high school sport.

Maryland had a first class swim facility and cut the sport anyway in the late 2000s.

I think the USOC should be crapping their pants
