Brett goes undrafted.

Manziel is one of the most overrated players in the history of the draft IMO. Every "big" play he made in college was an absurd scramble that would get him leveled by even an average NFL D lineman. Take those away and he's no better than AJ Maccarron...and a much bigger douchebag.

All of these things may be true because I thought Blaine Gabert would pan out. But I was way off. I'm saying I would rather have Johnny on any team in the MWC. IMO we would have 2 or 3 trophies. The Boot, MWC championship, and maybe a fiesta bowl lost to Baylor.

The Denver Broncos took a NDSU player over him

Hahahaha here come the ndsu trolls...go back to blowing each other on bisonville....

Brett made a mistake......like him or not Johnny Football performed better in a better conference.....time will tell how good he becomes. I'm hoping he succeeds as with Smith. :twocents:

*draft isnt an exact science but scouts dont care about media hype etc....Their jobs depend on scouting talent for their team's success.

I will admit now, I was wrong and Brett made a huge mistake. The reality is that such a small percentage of undrafted QBs make it more than 2 years in the NFL. We can all point to Kurt Warner...but for every Kurt Warner there are 1000s of others that don't make it (and Warner had to prove himself in the Arena League first). Although, if anyone can prove the scouts and statistics wrong, it is Brett Smith.

As far as from an education standpoint, Brett Smith had 3.5 years of college and it appears that he is not far off from a degree. Should Brett Smith's football career fail, he will still probably be successful in what ever else he pursues.

Who would have thought that we can now put Brett Smith and Alvester Alexander in the same category though :o !
Looking forward to following Tampa Bay and hope Brett proves the numerous NFL scouts wrong!

I don't think there's any doubt that Brett got some bad advice. If you declare early, you have to get drafted.

Yes Alvester Alexander made the steelers but he hasn't hardly played and they draft every year to replace guys who are just filling roster spots.

The only Cowboy in history to declare early and get drafted was Derrick Martin... He's been in the league for 8 years now. Getting drafted goes a long way, especially if you are skipping out on another year of college and development.

Johnny Manziel 40 time- 4.68
Brett Smith 40 time- 4.51

Other than that, I'm not an NFL scout nor even a college coach to argue either way.

To be objective, we must remember that Pro Day times are almost always much better than Combine times.

(See Herron, by .20 seconds)
nerves?
