Bowl Projection Roundup

Okay, being the cautious, pessimistic fan that I am, I am only now willing to admit that WE ARE GOING TO A BOWL GAME! The question is which one? Here's a round up of some current projections (some site's haven't updated this week yet) :

Jerry Palm at CBS says Poinsettia vs. BYU: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

SBNation says Potato vs. Cental Michigan: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/11/20/13689846/bowl-game-projections-2016-college-football-playoff-predictions

NBCSports says Poinsettia vs. BYU: http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/11/20/2016-college-football-bowl-projections-after-week-12/

Schlabach at ESPN says Potato vs. Miami (OH): http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/18056738/college-football-bowl-projections-2016-season-week-12

McMurphy at ESPN says Arizona Bowl vs. Idaho: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/18056738/college-football-bowl-projections-2016-season-week-12

CFN says Potato vs. Toledo: http://collegefootballnews.com/2016/college-football-playoff-bowl-projections-after-week-12

Campus Insiders says New Mexico Bowl vs. W. Kentucky: https://campusinsiders.com/news/college-football-bowl-projections-week-13-11-20-2016/

YahooSports says Potato vs. Ohio U.: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/bowl-projections-will-usc-jump-into-a-new-years-six-bowl-game-205624049.html

Okay, I'm tired of this now... I'm sure there's a way to paste URL's into text to make this more attractive, but I'm too lazy to figure it out.

If we get Toledo, I hope we can put a pounding on their QB. Maybe sneak in Brett Smith as a linebacker for a couple snaps.

So, even though Wyoming has at least a decent chance to win a MWC championship by beating UNM and SDSU, these prognosticators think that the LV Bowl committee will pick Boise instead to play ASU? Really? LV Bowl executive director John Saccenti said the following while visiting Laramie for the WYO-boise game:

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been in Laramie,” Saccenti said. “If Wyoming figures out a way to upset Boise State, that changes the whole landscape of the Mountain West. We would definitely be interested in Wyoming. The fans there are great.”

It looks like Utah is being bandied about as a possible 6th place PAC-12 LV Bowl selection. WYO vs. Utah? Wouldn't that be something.

I would love to match up with either BYU or Utah, no matter which game. Idaho would be fun because I have a friend who is an alumnus.

Toledo would be fun too, for personal reasons. My old grad school academic adviser is not Toledo's president. It would give me a fun excuse to reach out.

Not to sound unappreciative, but I don't want Boise. A cold Thursday night game on that ugly ass blue field ? No thanks! I'll drive/ fly anywhere else.

Fuck that. Let's win the conference and invade our Laramie south known as Las Vegas.

Viva Las Vegas! Nothing else is acceptable.

If the Cowboys beat the Lobos and SDSU again will they go to a new year's 6 bowl?

We would still need Western Michigan to screw up in the MAC Championship game for that to happen. And I do mean screw up!!!!

I highly doubt a three-loss MW team would jump over a one-loss MAC team. So, yeah, it would have to be an epic screw-up. And I'm pretty sure Houston would get that phone call before us...

Actually two losses for WMU. They play host to Toledo this coming weekend. They already clinched the division so they will be the MAC title game. But still....

Houston can't go because Navy won the AAC West title and so Houston can't play for the shot at the Cotton Bowl.

The G5 rep in the Cotton Bowl has to be both the highest rated AND a conference champion.

If they lose to Toledo next week, they won't even be in the championship game I think

Toledo is 6-1 in conference so if they beat W. Michigan, wouldn't they be division champs?

Yeah, you're right. WMU did clinch at least a share of the division title but not outright just yet. Good catch, laxwyo.

How would Houston get the call before us? They take the highest ranked G5 conference champ.
Houston won't be a conference champ. In fact, Navy has already clinched the division that Houston plays in.

And on top of that, if WMU loses the MAC Championship game, they will also not be qualified to make the NY6 game.

That would lump Houston, WMU, and Boise all in the same group: Higher ranked G5 teams than us, but they aren't conference champions so it doesn't matter that they are ranked higher.

WMU is in the driver seat, but a loss in their championship game, along with Wyoming leap frogging the winner of the South Florida-Navy (AAC Championship Game) in the polls is what gets Wyoming in the Cottowbowl, assuming we win the MWC.

Currently in the AP, WMU is 14th. Navy is 28th. South Florida is 30th. Wyo is 36th.
And in the Coaches, WMU is 18th, Navy is 29th. South Florida is 30th. Wyo is 35th.

I think the path to Wyoming going to a NY6 Bowl lies as follows:

Wyoming beats New Mexico and San Diego State.
Temple beats East Carolina to go to 7-1 in AAC conference.
South Florida loses to Central Florida to go to 6-2 in AAC conference.
Temple beats Navy in AAC Championship game.
Western Michigan loses MAC Championship game.
Hope we stay ahead of Temple in rankings.
OR

Wyo beats NM and SDSU.
Navy wins AAC Championship game, then loses in Army-Navy game.
Western Michigan loses in MAC Championship game.
Hope Navy losing to Army would be enough to let us leap frog them in the polls

Potato, NM, Horseshit Bowl- Lets go to Vegas!
Laramie will be jamming when we get San Diego back at the War in a couple weeks, Cowboys have everything on the line. Even out here in Michigan, as I attended WMU game this past weekend....they were talking about the importance of Wyoming to the Western Broncos. Picked dead last, even our own esteemed writers left us in the wake of losses week after week. This Cowboy brotherhood has withstood injury, insult, and intimidation to mop up some huge wins. I don't see any other conclusion than our first MWC championship at this stage. That has got to be invading every captive subject in the Wyoming locker room. This next game against a good opponent in NM will shine the light on what finishing is all about for this young ball club. Very proud of these coaches and players. Lets get this done. Vegas is calling!

Appreciate the insightful breakdown on this. I do really think that the big game we should be watching is Friday (ESPNU) WMU vs a solid Toledo team. If WMU loses to Toledo, then they dont advance to their own Championship game in MAC - thus eliminating them from Cotton Bowl Bid.

After that, assuming we take care of business (New Mexico win and another win over SDSU), I do believe that our resume at 10-3, with 2 top 25 wins, would outrank a USF or Navy team.
