Bowl Projection Roundup

From what I have heard and read, the Poinsettia Bowl is a front runner for the Pokes. The Poinsettia Bowl reps were in Laramie and it sounded like UW would be a choice over Boise, Air Force and possibly even SDSU. The problem is, SDSU doesn't travel worth a shi. For them Vegas and staying home in SD are better options.

Pokes need to shut everyone up by winning the next two games and let's roll to vegas.

The question I have is would the Pokes even be in play for the Vegas Bowl? Assuming we beat UNM and SDSU again, Boise beats Air Force and WMU or the AAC gets the Cotton Bowl, would the Vegas Bowl choose us over Boise? They're not obligated to take the champion, but they get first choice. What do you all think?

absolutely. Pokes win next two games and Vegas Bowl bound.

At this point, a bowl is a bowl. But the Las Vegas Bowl seems so underwhelming. Especially if we win out and claim the Conference Championship. Ooh a bowl on December 17th... I don't know. Its weird to be in a situation where were talking bowl games and its even weirder to be saying one bowl is better than the other but he LV Bowl just doesn't move the needle for me.

Outside of an Access Bowl the Las Vegas bowl is crem de la crem for a MWC team, no?

Thats what they tell us. Its our "#1" tie in. Puke in my mouth, I would rather play in the Poinsettia Bowl against BYU.....

Really? Interesting it doesn't move the needle for you...it is by far my top choice (this season). It is where the championship team from the MWC goes...if selected and fitting (in other words our douchebag commissioner will have a say). Plus it is on a Saturday, which opens up many more fans to travel to...versus most other bowls that are on week-days. There is one other MWC tie-in on the 17th - the New Mexico Bowl. Also of note, the 17th is really the kick off for bowl season, there are 6 bowls scheduled that day!

Looking at these below, given our circumstances and options, I don't see anything better than Vegas on 12/17:

New Mexico Bowl - Saturday December 17th, Albuquerque.
Poinsettia Bowl - Wednesday December 21st, San Diego.
Potato Bowl - Thursday December 22nd, Boise.
Hawaii Bowl - Saturday December 24th, Honolulu.
Arizona Bowl - Friday December 30th, Tucson.

All valid points.

The Vegas Bowl Committee has first choice of teams correct? IT is not GUARANTEED the conference champ goes there if I understand correctly. Vegas would be dumb to not choose Wyoming if we get to that point.

I understand the feeling, but for whatever reason, bowls stopped scheduling where the worst games would be earliest and they progressively get better as the bowl season moves along. But that's no longer the case.

The nice thing about Vegas is it's against a Pac 12 opponent rather than C-USA, Sun Belt, MAC or BYU. Because of that, a little more prestige is attached to it.

Correct. Vegas has first choice, and there's no particular order after that.

Agree with all of this. LV is a great destination that Wyoming fans will travel to. The opponent will be a quality P5 opponent (instead of some no-name independent that plays November home games against schools like Southern Utah on obscure channels focused on religion programming), and most importantly if we are playing in LV it means we won the MWC.

Thats a good point.

I would agree that the Pac-12 #6 team should carry a bigger name than just about anyone in CUSA, Mac, etc....

Still think theres a solid shot of the Cotton Bowl. WMU trips up this week vs Toledo and it could be our game to lose, assuming we can take care of our business. Might as well dream big

Why the hell is Wyo not even being considered for Cactus Bowl? I have seen many projections that have CSU and Boise headed there.

CBS Sports:
Motel 6 Cactus Bowl
Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ, 10:15 ET, ESPN
Tuesday, December 27, 2016
Big 12 vs. Pac-12
Baylor vs. Colorado State*
*Mountain West gets spot if no Pac-12

This.

This is the ultimate bowl for Wyoming if WMU doesn't stumble and falter. Does the At-Large Cotton Bowl take into account head to head match ups or strictly end of year rankings?

Highest ranked conference champ of the non-power conferences.

That would be a great bowl, compared to our current tie-ins, with the exception of LV, again just IMO.

I just don't see a MWC (with the exception of Boise State) getting the nod. Are they saying there would be no eligible Pac12 teams? They have 6 eligible right now, and likely that ASU will beat UofA this Friday (even though ASU has lost 5 in a row).

As for PAC12, what I am hearing here in Utah Sports radio is it all depends on what happens with Washington. If they get into the playoff, it frees a Pac12 spot (such as Cactus Bowl)..... I think? I will need to verify this myself. But that is what I have heard.

That makes some sense. Is Baylor a projected team, or are the locked? Not sure I would want to play them. We suck against the read-option. Bad.

If Arizona State loses this week, the Cactus Bowl AND the Vegas Bowl might not have a Pac-12 participant. Not enough qualifiers. I enjoy bowl projections like anyone else, but reality is there are soooo many moving parts it's hard to tell what will really happen.

For argument's sake...which would you prefer, Vegas vs. Arizona State or San Diego vs. BYU?
