I presume an NDSU add is football only with NDSU leaving its Olympics in the Summit.

What would be interesting if said event happened is if a football only member would get a full share just like Gonzaga.

NDSU has a 10 year media deal that started in 2020 with Learfield paying about $2 million per year with no production costs to ndsu.

If they lost a substantial proportion of that deal with football gone and the pee12 is around a $3 million option it might not be as enticing.

Every million that goes to additional teams costs the current pee7 (and team 8) at least $250,000 using $65 million as the total media compensation. My guess is NDSU would need a minimum of $4 million to make it worth considering a move.

The big pee12 CBS announcement (without any accompanying figures) which is very similar to the previous MWC media deal with CBS has already counted the games to be televised in that deal.

Anything can be written into a contract (like exit the MWC and pay $18 million) and negotiated later so you have to figure CBS isn’t going to be modifying the deal because it was most likely already spelled out having at least 8 teams and you get X amount and coverage because the pee12 has to have 8 members by July 1, 2026 or they aren’t an eligible conference. CBS doesn’t give a rats butt if you pay BSU more than USU or if Gonzaga and SDSU get a basketball kickback other than they agree to feature these teams as results support but regardless the pee12 is getting paid X $$. They have already committed to a deal. The pee12 couldn’t wait to spread the word (except for the value) because they will be splitting the CBS deal however they deem necessary to assemble their conference. It was put together with only 7 teams and there isn’t any team besides UNLV or Memphis that would tip the scale upwards anyway.

Before getting too enamored with NDSU keep in mind that they are 0-2 against FBS teams since 2015 after winning 5 in a row. If ndsu was so valuable to a media deal they would have been signing a BSU type deal with the pee12 prior to now. Besides, Wyoming is one of the four FBS teams to beat NDSU since 2008. NDSU has a lucrative deal with Learfield beyond the typical FCS program but is still at half the current MWC member. NDSU is on ESPN+ or when it is a FCS feature game date. They are currently swimming in less media cash than Wyoming.

I do agree that adding Texas State (in process because TS is having a special vote as required by Texas law to beat the 6-30 exit deadline) is a given to make the 8 team minimum. The pee12 can always try to get Memphis or UNLV or go the FCS route but NDSU hasn’t applied to go FBS and time is running out for an FCS to be FBS eligible for 2027. Sac St hasn’t been FBS approved yet and they already begged the pee12, MWC and CUSA for inclusion being ignored every time. It’s no piece of cake transition.

You can’t count games unless you have eligible members. NDSU is almost out of time for 2027.

I was mostly getting at the money, but then the NCAA has made going from FCS to TBS a headache. It was a mess for James Madison and I"m not sure any other schools (including NDSU) really have the resources and where withall to do this anymore.

Imo, that article glosses over the real reason for the rule changes: playoff distribution. I've seen 300k/team but Murray reports 1.85 mill/team. What's not clear is if that distribution model changes based on number of teams in the g6? If so, it's pretty easy to see why the big dogs don't want more teams jumping up to the g6 level. If we've learned 1 thing through all of this, it's always about money for the top and not about what's best for g6-level universities, fans, or athletes.

I'm not sure if that's the money trail for the rules or not, but there's a money trail.

I don't think Bohl or Shyatt were really looking to "move up".

Bohl probably would have accepted a head coaching position at Nebraska, but outside of that, I think he was happy ending his career at Wyoming. Shyatt was ready to retire before he came back to UW but felt like he had unfished business because of the way he left the first time. I think he felt an obligation to come back and "finish the job".

You are probably right...and I have no problem with the hiring of either of them. What I think should have happened (again...hindsight is a great advantage) is that we move off of them quicker. You would have to believe that Bohl or Shyatt had peaked and then thank them for raising the floor, then look for the guy that gets the program to take another step.

I think in the NFL the Patriots did this with players...they would move off of guys at or just after what they though their peak was. The downside is that anybody, player or coach, at that place in their career is going to be pretty popular with fans. It takes some stones and belief in your assessments. Burman would make a terrible GM...that is what it takes now at the AD position. It's not just another university admin position.

Sacramento State was denied a waiver to allow it to play FBS in 2026. They are still awaiting approval to start the FCS to FBS transition process. They won’t be an FBS option until 2028 at the earliest.

From what I read, they need a board to convene on Monday to approve the $5M exit fee. Once they approve this measure, it sounds like it is a done deal.
