Biggest game in a I don't know how long??????

This game with BSU coming up is the most massive game I can think of the Pokes playing in football since when????????
I'm trying to remember. Can anyone remind of a game this late in the season that was for the conference title basically. With the 2 split sides its more like the old WAC. I'd guess that 1996 year was just filled with massive games. I remember attending the Air Force game that year and both those teams were SOLID. That season had a lot of big moments. The BYU title gut-wrencher had to have been the last BIG one for me. They got fucking hosed that year too!! :willybs: :willybs: :willybs: :willybs:

Is this BSU game near that level? It kinda seems like it but the BYU rival thing puts that game in the upper echelon of classics that I've viewed. A tragic loss of all losses. Maybe that's why the sting of being a UW football fan can be too much to bear. I remember those games and how bad I felt. At least made it to Laramie for our last major upset over BYU, back when we rushed the fields and took the goalposts to the BUCK :thumb:

In 2011, we were 5-2 in the conference. So the games vs boise and tcu were big games. We were 2-0 in the conference when we played TCU. We led in the 3d qtr and Smith got a concussion (if I remember right). I can't remember if the game at Boise later had conference champion implications or not. TCU went undefeated in the conference that year.

I think a lot of fans are afraid of another blowout by a ranked team. I'm seeing a lot of seats still available as of yesterday. I think the student section will be there in force but people need to step it up in a big way if we want a crowd like Air Force.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. Let's make this a game that will be remembered for a long, long time. Put the hammer down and keep it down Pokes. Play aggressive but smart and disciplined.

Tickets should start selling this morning and all week... Weather will be good but it is late october so people were probably waiting until the week of to see what the forecast said and where the team was at...

Parents weekend is this weekend so that should get some additional people there

Not to throw a wet blanket on, but with the way our d looked @ Nevada I just don't see us getting it done. Maybe the casual fan sees that, too? There are a lot of open seats...

With Appleby back, that should help things out.

Also, I don't think BSU does constant cut blocks like what Nevada did (seriously, all game they did), which should help things with the blitz and pressure.

It's awesome that the Pokes are in this position and anything can happen with the game being at the war. I think they're a year too early to win this one. They just needed more depth to really be in a better spot to take a game of this magnitude. Having injuries to key guys in areas where the Pokes are already thin just kills. The other thing that plays on my mind is I could see them winning this game and then losing to another lesser team down the line. It's still more of a ramshackle shootout squad then consistent juggernaut. In the end who cares, UW is playing for a shot at a MWC title this week!!! NOBODY on this board thought they'd be here. NOBODY

2010 home game vs. BSU. Coming off a surprise bowl season, the fan base was on cloud 9.

I agree with this post

2 undefeateds going into a meaningful game at War Memorial, man this gives me goosebumps, just like the old WAC days, we're getting there, now if we can get er done against those pesky Broncos!!!

Feels like the '99 game against BYU. We were 5-3 and had just beaten Utah in Salt lake City. BYU was 8-1 and ranked 12th I think? We kicked their ass, it was awesome! Tore down the goal posts and everything. Would have won the conference that year if Dana Dismal hadn't tanked the last game like he always did.

I remember a big TCU game with Bramlet at qb (looked it up 05). We got trashed that day and had 7 TO's or something like that. It went from maybe we can win the MWC to we aren't even a legit team real fast. The season then went into the tank. Still I think even heading into that game the team hadn't done as much as this one yet. Fuzzy memories though to put it lightly ahahah.....

I didn't follow the squad much from 06ish-14ish. I saw some of the weaker bowl games, a few "big" games, but its not like I missed much. I feel like the last real noise maker UW teams were in the 90's with Dimel's squad being the last hurrah. Dimel's squads were fun/solid, but a big drop off of Tiller's last team on a downward slope. Anywho this is the first time since those days I've felt like UW is bringing in a legit squad into a big game. I always have that feeling that they can win it but its even more so when you've got some real players to back it up. Brown n Gold goggles on

Yeah that's the one!!! I was at that one as a young ass man. It was the game that got me all stoked to go to UW. Got drunk in the dorms with my sister and her friends. Rushed the field with the students and helped take those posts down. Man the student section in those days was fucking rowdy as hell. It was border line dangerous. Whiskey bottles flying in the air. Fuck you BYU chants everywhere. The bitch chant at the closet player to the student section on kickoffs. The whole 9 man. Lotta electricity in those days before the internet was a big thing ahahahaha.

If Wyoming beats Boise I wonder if we will see the goal posts torn down. Not a lot of that going on anymore in college football.

Not unless you bring a plasma cutter. Those things are built to never come down again.

I remember them cutting it to pieces with a hack saw in front of the Buckhorn in '99. I was surprised it was made of aluminum. What are they made of now?

I hope they tear them down, just so they can be replaced. They look like they belong on a HS field. I guess you could say they look like me: short, pale, and faded

Huge game for sure. It would take something extremely big and exciting to get me to miss this game. I mean a very huge event. Something on the level of the Cubs Playing in the World Series at Wrigley Field that weekend.....

Oh Wait.....

So yeah, I can't believe I am going to miss this game but the Cubs in the World Series are a bigger deal for me this weekend.
