Apology to Players and Fans...

Friends, sometime enemies, my fellow esteemed and raucous Cowboy fans...

Let me preface this by saying, I have been as critical as anyone. So, this goes to me more than any one on this site. I had an epiphany at 7:17 AM MST. For this, I apologize to fans and players. Sometimes we all forget the big picture.

I live in Utah. I listen to sports radio most of the day...and it is obviously Utah and BYU. This morning there was a segment of what is determined "success" for a season. Utah fans are riding high...Rose Bowl or bust.

BYU fans, well, hmmmmm, where do I start. I was listening to people call in and whine about the coach, the players, the offensive play-calling, the facilities, the schedule, the AD, the defensive schemes, the kicking game, the recruiting, their rival, on and on and on and on. I found myself rolling my eyes and getting agitated how childish the fans sounded.

Then.....I logged on to here: we sound like BYU fans. Honestly. What have we become.

Before you are quick to defend your position of "being different," go read the past three pages of Wyonation. We sound like Cougarboard. Whining, Joking. Mocking. I get it, we aren't a good football team currently...but how embarrassing.

I am guilty. I will try and temper my tantrums on here as well. I follow many of our players on Twitter. They are struggling more than we are as fans. I truly believe they (most of them) are working their butts off to be better. Through all of this, they are still recruiting their friends to come to Laramie. "Come build this program" they are saying. They aren't running from this problem, but we are.

It finally hit me that while the rest of us are ready to cut bait, some of us are ready to sink the whole freakin' ship, while others are on the shores with their head in the sand (Monkeyboy...:) ha ha jk), these guys are still putting in hours to lay the groundwork for the future of OUR program. Even they see it, and aren't backing down from it.

Diatribe over. I better stop before it turns into Dinotribe.

Go Pokes! Here is to improvement vs App State!

What is the attitudes of the players on twitter? Well said...

-Open apologies to fans and the state.
-Don't give up on us
-"Come join us in Laramie. We need you more than ever"
-"We aren't okay with this either I am sorry fans are not getting what they deserve..."

When I have time, I will try and grab some screenshots.

My heart goes out to our players... They are busting their assess, being on a losing team is never fun but props to them for keeping on.. Thanks

One thing is certain, the players should not hang their heads or apologize for anything. I have no doubt they have done everything that they personally can do. Kudos for the hard work and keep your head up.

Whatever you or I say on a message board will not have any influence on game day.

Players bust their ass?.....as they should and is what is expected. I like to see the apologies, attitude etc as that is a positive.

I really don't see people ripping players on this board but let's be real here..........wtf ever I say on here will not make a difference in W's or L's. Fans bitching on a message board...when 0-4? ...........it would be odd if people weren't. :twocents:

Well put! And although I am not disagreeing with djm's post at all...show me a fan base of a losing team, and I'll show you identical thoughts and feelings to we have right here. Nature of the situation.

Maybe not, but players peruse these sites. I know that for a fact. Perception of a fanbase is real, also.

Agreed, it is nature of the situation, but much of what is discussed is pretty extreme.

Uhh.. yeah, I don't accept your apology.. I would prefer that apologies come in hand written letters.

My son was a part of this team the last three years and I can tell you they all want to win! It is incredible how much work they put into this venture. For the most part we, as fans, will never know or understand the toll this process takes on a young man whether you are winning or losing. Tanner was a part of both systems and I watched him work as both coaches struggled to find the right equation for success. The athlete's work load is about the same no matter who is in charge. Please understand that everyone of these kids do what they are told to do. School is indeed secondary to the mission of Wyoming Football....having said that, it is stressed that academic success is an expectation! So each athlete is expected to take care of business in the classroom with what ever meager time is left over so that they can work to get better on the football field.

I have been a high school football coach for 22 years now and even I had no idea what the stress and anxiety levels of D1 football looked like. It is incredible stress on all of their lives! It is no wonder that the vast majority of people who attempt to live this process fail at doing so. So I for one respect every single athlete that dares to take a chance and try to be a part of a college football program at any level!

Having said that it is often times not good enough! Many people will try and fail for the simple reason they aren't good enough! It is a fact of life......in everything that we do. We are often just not good enough! Hell, I love to golf but as all of my friends will attest to ......I am terrible at it! We are struggling in Lander right now to win a football game and it isn't because our kids are not working hard, or giving us everything they have for that matter. It is just that other high schools are better at football than we are right now.

So it is my hope that Coach Bohl will get the right kids in Laramie to make his system work. Until then lets find the good in the equation and support that. Case in point we have a young man that is among the best receivers in the nation in Tanner Gentry. So lets support him, go vote for him and help him achieve his dreams and who knows maybe there will be others.

Thanks,
Steve Simpson AKA "Jarhead"

Another solid post. Thanks Jarhead....and Tiger Pride. ;)

If we ever just lay back and accept losing, I think that will be worse.

But it was cool to see my name in writing! I am not Joe Glenn's nephew, however, I promise. I actually advocated for Joe to be fired...back when I thought it actually mattered who coached the team.

Again, I haven't seen anything harsh toward players....I realize these are basically kids but they are of legal age to vote and go to actual war. Nobody forces anyone to read anything on this board and I am behind the players 100%. It is when people stop posting...that would be the most concerning as people quit caring.

SO if a player is reading my post, keep your head up...circle the wagons. People care.....later in life you will learn that things don't always go as planned and it is how you react to it....get knocked down...get the f back up and keep coming. It is bigger than you even realize to people who have attended...played...live in the state etc. People complain because they care. People spend hard earned money.....little kids look up to you. *Old "kids" follow you. You get to play for a short period of time then it is GONE.....you can never replicate game day excitement....etc after it is over. People desperately want you guys to kick some ass.

*I think I'm going to go kick over a trash can or something!

Que the "Heroes have always been cowboys" song.

Rant Over
