AA renovation recieved 500k donation today?

I forgot AFA was at 8,400 last year too.
Our attendance has been going up year after year. Just depends on our success.
No one thought we'd fill the arena through the Joby Wright years also, but Shyatt comes in andMcClain come in and we start getting 8 to 10K a game. Even 10 to (16k)!!! Say goodbye to how amazing and loud that was when we beat Utah. Never again, and not because we're bad, but we'd rather renovate and lose seating for suites that a only half ful cause no one wants to pay out for them! Sounds like football, all these games lately that we've sold out, be it Texas, Nebraska, Boise, Virginia, whoever. I was at those games, and honestly 29,086 and 31,117 are not as loud and as intimidating as the pasts stadium capacity filled to overflowing. 34,745! Think of how many times we would have and probably should have hit 35,000 in a 33,500 stadium! There's your money, but because we couldn't fill the stadium in most of the Dimel years, and no one wanted to watch us suck in the Koenning years, and we were avg at best at 20k a game under Glenn ( the occasional sellout...Virginia. We decided to lower the capacity by renovating for better seating and suites (which are always only half full), occasionally full for a big game.
Did our ticket revenue really increase with those suites! Or did we embarrass ourselves by becoming one of the "select" venues that holds under 30,000, all because we want it to look pretty.

Cameron Indoor ---- 9500 capacity. Case closed.

I'm more concerned about the actions/fun the fans have once inside the arena.

They provide nothing to the atmosphere of a collegiate basketball game. They sit, watch, and clap.

I'm well aware of Mac Court's capacity. And you know what? I think it's a travesty they moved out of that place. It truly had character and was a legitimately intimidating environment. "Bigger is better" is 20th century thinking when it comes to indoor arenas. The next generation of NBA arenas will even trend downward in capacity. There's no logic to your argument in terms of what's best for the future of the athletic program apart from "it was awesome those eight times we put 15k in the AA." Yes, it was awesome, but that is a poor basis for a business plan.

Those suites in the War cost a pretty penny, and I'm positive being half full is not helping bring in revenue either. Especially when it hasn't brought in enough to pay itself off yet. But I'm sure 4+K more in those big games would be helping. And if our basketball was back where we would like it. Extra seats would be nice. Because if our lack of filling the suites in football resembles basketball, then I'd say we went off the deep endfor nothing.

Maybe look at it from a fan perspective, A great example is " He guys want to go to a game at the AA? " " nah that place is awful, it sounds like crap and it's so out of date. "

You might not think that is reality or fan reaction but I can promise you it is. People want to go to a game in good atmosphere with state of the art entertainment at that game. Very few fans want to go to a game in an out of date Arena.

Renovations will increase the fan experience and fan atmosphere and that is where the attendance starts. 20 years ago the society might have viewed that differently than they do today. When I use to go to games there with my family when I was a kid the AA looked nearly the same as it does today 20+ years later. Sure there have been changes and me personally I'm old and don't value the same things that people value today I value the players and the game but fans want an exciting atmosphere and if I was 20 today I would want the same. ( i think )

This is that same old " it's good enough mentality " that has recently made us look pretty bad. It's good enough for you but is it good enough for a teenager traveling form Casper or Cheyenne? Someone traveling from anywhere, If you are eon the road for 3+ hours because let's face it to get to Laramie can be 3+ hours.

You just get out of your car and your going to be going into watch a game after 2-3 hours on the road. The AA is the last place I think I would want to sit for 3 more hours.

The wildcatter suites have been purchased ( every single one) with a waiting list. That is likely a better revenue generator than the general seating it took up. Would suite seating in the AA be as profitable? I honestly don't know, but the Wildcatter suites generate 420k in revenue for seats that are filled once a year in the past.

Or is your point about the 250 additional club seating (not the large wildcatter suites)? If those aren't purchased for an entire season you have a good point.

We don't fill the reduced capacity, so it's not like we gave up any revenue. We only added to the operating budget bottom line with the sold out suites. In terms if payback on capital, it is irrelevant because those were external sources to the athletic department and would not have been available otherwise.

They do? Have you ever been to Allen Fieldhouse? That place is OLD! Ant it shows.
Wooden painted bleachers, metal bleachers, hardly any actual seats. the concourse is actually no worse than WYOs. Sound system needs work, only thing that they got that we don't. Hanging scoreboard with jumbotron. Allen Field house only has so much longer, do you really think when they build a new one it will be less that the 16k it holds now?

For us, when we played in the Fieldhouse, we were generally selling out at 10k a game. That's why whe they built the arena, they decided to add another 5k to it. Since playing in the arena we have only had a select few years that match the seasons of Brandenburg. There in lies the problem. If we had a team that was NCAA bound even everyother year, you would see this place more full.
I guess I'm fine with it as long as they keep it above 12,000. And I sure hope those "precious suites" don't screw the seating by its ends like the Wildcatter does. Some serious flaws with this "state of the art" renovating.

If we'd stop playing a bunch of Deep South teams, that no one cares about. And we stop playing lower division regional teams, fans might actually show up...
