Well, if it were up to Burman, he would have WYO go to CSewe again next year, for some more kickback money. And why again doesn't Burman want 7 home games, like, ever? He is a money whore, surely he knows home games make money.

I'm glad that it appears that The Border War will continue uninterrupted......but, it damn well better be in Laramie.
I think Reeves is making the majority of the decisions now.
He claims that seven home games actually results in less profit for UW overall. I don’t know if this is actually true or not, but I could see a scenario in which it is.
Last I saw, the average cost for a G5 team to host a home football game was around $375,000. Burman argues that because capacity at War Memorial already exceeds demand with six home games, adding a seventh home game actually creates more additional costs for UW than it does additional revenue. This is primarily because Burman claims the overall home attendance does not increase very much despite having significantly higher costs.
I don't remember the last time we had seven home games, but it would be interesting to see the overall attendance in that season vs. six home game seasons around the same time.
I was very curious and had some extra time, so I did some digging.
2023 was our last seven home game season. That year our total home attendance was 162,143.
In 2022, we had a traditional six home game season. Our total home attendance that season was 118,244.
So, at least in this most recent example, it does not appear that Burman's claim is true. That's an additional 43,899 fans attending a football game when we had seven games instead of six. Even if 8-9k of those are non-revenue generating students in attendance, that still an extra 35,000 paying fans. At an average ticket price of $60, that's an extra $2 million or more in revenue for UW. More than enough to offset the extra costs of hosting another home game.
Every year will be different though. I've been watching UW football for long enough to know the two biggest factors in predicting home attendance are, in order, game day weather and who the opponent is.
And yet he scheduled UCONN at the end of Nov....

And the last time we had 7 home games, the athletic department proclaimed a new attendance record for the War. They sure seemed to think that was a huge accomplishment.

There is no way UW should "lose" money having a 7th game. He is no business person, nor does he have financial sense otherwise. Only a dumbass would say something like that. Fact is, with a 7th game, you actually have to work an extra few hours, and Burman doesn't do that to begin with.

We set the all time attendance record it’s a few years back when we had 7. I think the demand is there and I find that hard to believe the money is not there

An extra home game also means more money for Laramie service workers, hotel employees, stadium staff, etc.

Not disputing that hunting season does factor in with somewhere around 1 in 5 Wyoming residents being licensed hunters. It means a crowd of 25,000 could be reduced to 20,000 if 100% of licensed hunters all decided to be hunting on game day. I doubt the ratio of those who attend games to be hunter heavy as compared to the overall population ratio.
I had members of the family that loved Wyoming football who did all they could to arrange their hunting around a game. The date of elk hunting open season was the single biggest determining factor for them which was understandable for wanting to be first to hunt an area.
My guess would be the hunting number impact on game attendance is probably closer to or less than 10% of those who attend home games regularly. That makes a crowd of 25,000 reduced to 22,500.
I take the position a perpetual crap team playing another crappy team in crappy weather will reduce attendance faster than hunting ever does. If Sawful has the team buzzing along at 1-5 when NIU comes to Laramie October 17 and it just happens to be a very blustery cold fall day that will be a bigger factor than hunting season for a reduced attendance.
