2026-2027 Season - Who's Excited?

I'm not. I can't recall being more apathetic about UW athletics in my life. The schedule is awful. Last season was awful. Our coaches are inept. Our admin seems to be worse than the coaches. And those coaches that aren't inept (Wicks) are gutted by a system that is run by a bunch of 18-year-olds and their agents and it shows. The bigger problem - at least for the mucky mucks in Laramie - is that I don't think I am alone. We might show up to watch a game or two (maybe not if they crap the bed against CSU) but most of the diehard fans I used to run with that donated and never missed a game just don't care anymore. They are more interested in tailgating, with some choosing to not go to games even though they are in the parking lot at the War at gametime. The moderately sized checks we used to write...are getting smaller by the year. Maybe my disposition changes if we trash CSU, but even if we do - I can't think that my excitement will grow with the likes of UNC (no, not THAT UNC) darkening Jonah Field.

I'm cautiously optimistic about football. I think the talent is there, and I'm hopeful the changes on offense will give the team the shot in the arm it needs. I'm rooting for Sawvel, but I also recognize how big of a disaster his tenure has been. He needs 7 wins to keep his job. Full stop.

I'm VERY excited about basketball. Bringing back Naz and Gores after the seasons they had is a massive win for a program like ours. I think Sunny and company are moving in the right direction. I fully expect this team to win 20 games minimum this season.

I’m guessing a 4-8 finish in football with Wyoming’s worst schedule ever. Hope I’m wrong. Can’t identify a single game on the schedule I’m excited for. Hope I can find people willing to take my first row tickets later in the season if things go South. This schedule is just so so bad and I don’t think we could have done any more to tank attendance this year with our home dates. My money is on the Bears of Northern Colorado being the largest attended game (and by a lot).

I’m really looking forward to Wyoming wrestling next year. On paper - best team in a long time and maybe ever. Also looking forward to basketball and volleyball - really like the direction of those programs even despite our NIL handicaps.
