2017 Thoughts.....

So after week one I was semi concerned about our offense or our offensive coordinator.

After this week I'm very concerned about both of them. This year's W:L record is going to be dictated by our defense our offense will have very little to do with wins and we're not going to blow anyone out.

I get that we have young receivers and it's going to take time etc but let's be honest our offense is anemic. We put up 27 points against Gardner Webb. We should have put 60+ on them. They played NC A&T last week who put up 45 on them.

Team played solid in the first half but the second half was embarrassing. Our running game or lack thereof is very worrisome.

This Defense is fun to watch and they will carry us to a Bowl Game with a 6-6 record.

Wyoming had a 24 point lead and almost 300 yards of total offense at the half. There was no reason to run up the score. I believe their O only crossed the 50 once. We played a lot of reserves in the 2nd half.

I'm not concerned about our passing game, but our running game is concerning. Obviously, Vigen wasn't going to open up the play book vs GW. But we need to find a way to establish the run game. I think both Conway and Johnson showed what they are capable of. But, we ran a very vanilla offense. Hopefully we're saving something for Oregon.

I think our D can keep us in the game, but our running game will need to improve to have a chance.

I'm the dumb one who drafts Kevin White every year in the late rounds thinking that somehow he won't be injured for the season again.

Big opening for Gentry! No White and Meredith for the whole year.

At this point I'd be thrilled with a bowl game

Very promising that, on defense, our two leading tacklers were d-linemen and not d-backs, unlike the last few years.

I do think at halftime the coaches treated the rest of the game like a practice doing the things we aren't good at in order to try and improve.

One name to watch in the running game is trey woods. He as in with the linebackers but played running back in high school and the coaches decided to send him with the running backs very late in fall camp. He is 6'3 210 and had two carries for 15 yards. I'm hearing rumblings that he may be the reinforcement we need to get our running game on track but he's learning

I am very confused (if this is the case) why it took the coaching staff all of fall camp, and 2 games, to figure this out.

Who were the reserves we played on offense?

Anyone who isn't a starter. Regardless, we had the game wrapped up by half. We Didn't need guys to come in to help score more points. Not Bohl's style. Our running game needs to be addressed. Other than that, we looked pretty good in the first half.....and coasted.

Go Pokes!

I'm concerned overall if we don't start scoring points as that's what keeps us in games but I don't see us much better at all I think this is just what we are to expect at UW. but I guess it took us awhile to get going last year and losing to a bad Eastern Michigan team and then made the run in conference but man it really would be awesome to hang it on a team like the Oregon Ducks (for a change)

It didn't take two weeks. He switched a week ago.

The staff clearly expected more from the top three RBs, and when they didn't perform the staff looked at other options. Not sure what's confusing about that.

I'm worried it's an offensive line problem and less of a running back problem. A problem I hope gets better as we have young bucks learning as they go but if your offensive line is creating holes you shouldn't need an all world back to run thru it.

It doesn't matter who you are if you do not have holes to run through you are in trouble

Doesn't matter "when he switched" - the kid was in a uniform since late July and team workouts since early June. They failed to notice he may be suited better as a RB that entire time??? Fuck me.

This is why I think defense will keep us in games. The line is actually impressive where the last few years we had to depend on DBs for tackles.

Also Granderson is a monster.

We were clearly watching different games. The offense straight up struggled to move the ball in the second half the the same players in the game.

Don't get me wrong I'm not yelling the sky is falling but our offense is in trouble. I watched SDSU torch the piss out of ASU. Our current offensive play would not have scored 30 on ASU but I think our defense may have held them to 14.

Fact is with this offense but performing we're in trouble. Not OMG we won't win anymore games trouble but trouble none the less.

I was at this game. I love defense so I had fun. But it was a damn boring game if you liked offense.

I've heard that the coaches have been pretty vanilla so far. Watching the last two games - I would agree.

I'm pretty damn excited about our defense this year. (Damn this is starting to sound like Joe Glenn part II - just kidding).

I'm not sure what will happen against Oregon this week. I'm pretty sure by the end of the Hawaii game we will know what this team is all about. I'm kinda surprised that we are +14 against Oregon after seeing their performance against Nebraska last weekend.

We haven't been very creative on our run game. The offensive line is doing what it is supposed to do. Maybe the coaches are trying to get the running backs some reps against something they see they need to build upon. I'm not sure.

Whatever year it was that our number of takeaways because of the dominate defense took us to a Bowl Game that we lost to Temple.

That's the same type of defense we have right now. With the exception I feel like we have a really special player in Granderson someone we've never had before.

I think it's also worth pointing out that Granderson's got enough talent next to him that teams can't entirely focus on shutting him down. Prosser's FAST, and though Ghaifan isn't flashy by any means, he's already got 12 tackles - something you've got to love for your DT after just two games. I'd love for the D-line to have more tackles this season than our defensive backs.

I don't call a double reverse and read option plays in a pro-style system as vanilla. It concerns me that these plays (along with any other play) didn't work too well against a terrible FCS team.
