Do we honestly see any of these players being difference makers next season? How far do we fall with the loss of Nance at the end of the season? Is this January the closest we come to March Madness for the foreseeable future?

I think we'll struggle big time down low. However, I think we'll be better on the perimeter next year. How much better? Hopefully enough to help our bigs find space.

With the speed of Adams, Washington, and possibly Conway and the shooting of gorski, mcmanamen, Lieberman, and possibly James and Marshall coming in I think we'll be very solid at the 3 guard positions.

It'll be nice to have a couple 6'5" to 6'7" guys who can shoot. We got a glimpse of that type of player with gorski and mcmanamen but I'm excited to see Justin James come in and help add depth behind those guys
Are we in a league where we can run a small lineup and have extended success (go the route of Boise State)? Is that Shyatts big picture?

Based off our recruiting classes the previous years, it seems like guards are the priority. Do I think this lineup works? No. San Diego state starts one guard, how are they playing tonight?

SDSU started 4 guys 6-8 or taller last night; we started one. Athletically they are also better.

It will be tough for us to compete with them, even with the second coming of John Wooden himself coaching, until we address these deficiencies.

And I think we are addressing that. Our incoming class (including the Rfr) is:
F Tyrell Williams, 6-8, 225 (red shirt)
G Austin Conway, 5-10, 165
G Justin James, 6-7, 180
F Andrew Moemeka, 6-8, 200
F Jordan Naughton, 6-9, 220

So that is 4 kids at least 6-7 and add in Herndon at 6-9 and Barnes at 6-10 thats pretty good. Then round out with McM at 6-5 and the Juco Marshall at 6-4 we are getting signifficantly taller and more athletic.

Shyatt wants to run something similar to Florida where you have multiple guards that can shoot. Of course even with all of the guards that can shoot for Florida they also usually have a couple of real athletic big men down low .

The two big's coming in next year along with Herndon and the redshirt this year better turn out to be better than we expect or it will be a long year.

I have a GREAT feeling about this incoming class. I think they will be the ones that take us back to the top of the mountain.

Are they going to play, or have a couple of them be red-shirted, and the rest of them play about 3 minutes per game in about 10 games?
Are we going to have depth? Or just about 6 or 7 players again?

Depends if they earn it in practice. So who knows. I imagine a couple will play.

I don't know. I would imagine if they are the best player at their position or if they can contribute they will play. It's way more likely freshman will play next year than this year because of the number of seniors we have this year. Why don't you email Shyatt and ask?

I would love to be able to sit in on some of those closed door meetings between coaches talking about recruiting.

You know if we are saying we need to fix the height or speed or skill or shooting or etc issue, the coaches have talked about it a long long time ago, and it shows by the types of players they are recruiting and going after.

I want to hear what they say to eachother. "Man (insert name here) can shoot but he can't create a shot or play D, let's make sure we figure that out next recruiting class".

That Oldsmar team is pretty damn impressive. They play a national schedule against elite level teams and are 32-4. James looks like the real deal. Moemeka is like a young Derek Cooke with way more basketball experience. Add in an elite rebounder in Naughton, one of the fastest point guards in high school basketball, and a quality j.c. transfer guard and we're going to win some titles.

And the rest of the squad returning next year:

G Josh Adams 6-2 185
G Alexander Aka Gorski 6-5 210
C Jonathan Barnes 6-10 240
F Alan Herndon 6-9 205
G Jeremy Lieberman 6-1 175
G Jason McManamen 6-5 195
G Trey Washington 5-11 185

Needless to say, the Pokes will be relatively green at the Four/Five with a big lean to the defensive end, overall. As a developmental program under Papa Shy, I wouldn't be surprised to see Moemeka and, possibly, Naughton redshirt next year. We shall see. I had initially hoped Barnes would redshirt this year.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see James come in and push hard for a starting position at some point with Aka Gorski, Marshall and McManamen in the mix on the wing.

Adams is penciled in at the Two. Relatively-speaking, the guard position should be more athletic, quicker and better defensively. Would like to see Lieberman build some upper body strength in the off-season. Adams told me before the season started that Washington had really turned up the heat on the defensive end. Let's just hope Trey regains his shooting touch. I'll be shocked if Shyatt finds a way to keep Conway off the floor next year. Too much speed and quickness to push the tempo offensively and to disrupt defensively.

Imagine a scenario with Adams, Conway, and Trey Washington on the floor at one time....You tell me one other team in the league that would be able to push or out run that lineup? Add in Mac and Herndon and thats a team that can get out and flat run the wheels off teams at altitude, and play defense!

Except Boise has shooters at every position. We really don't.
Did you read the post? That what Shyatts recruiting appears to be aiming at...

I don't really see that though. Only two of our 5 signees are perimeter shooters (James, Marshall).

I think Shyatt prefers to have bigs that can play in the post. Only one of our 5 projected big men for next year would be someone that might have range out to the arc (Herndon), but that is still a work in progress as we have seen this year (looks good, just hasn't made them, I think he will over time though). We don't have anyone like Webb or Duncan in terms of shooting.

So many holes on this roster for next year. It's going to be a rebuilding year and a little bit of trial and error as we see which young players start to grow and develop. I am excited to see James. I see him in the same mold as a Tyler Johnson (Fresno). I also look forward to Herndon's development and seeing Josh Adams take the reins as "the man".

Very worried about the lack of playmaking off the dribble, except for Adams, considering we won't have the post presence that Nance provided. You need at least a couple of players that can distort the defense via either double team in the post or dribble penetration. Not sure where that comes from other than Adams. Conway and Washington are fast but very small which makes it tough to finish in the lane. McManamen, Gorski, Lieberman, and Marshall are all more in the perimeter shooter vein, although McManimal can make them pay for closing out too hard by putting it on the deck.

I think it's a little early to judge our recruits playmaking skills or perimeter shooting at this stage of the game. I will keep my expectations in check until their second year at Wyoming although some of them will surprise next year. Our outside players of Adams, McManamen, Gorski, Lieberman, and hopefully Washington will keep the opposition honest and not let the defense collapse in the middle next season. Herndon, Williams, & Barnes have the bigger task awaiting them.

How good are these kids if they are the #1 seed in the country???

And if they are that good, why aren't they Kentucky or Kansas or North Carolina or Duke recruits?
Am I missing something here?
