New OC Christian Taylor

New to the board.....does anyone get Manny vibes? His offense was very creative and unique. I am interested because we all know the offense needs a complete overhaul.

Taylor’s offensive philosophy is, “You gotta do something most teams aren’t doing.” His system is geared toward utilizing the personnel he has. Previously (USD), he was more tight-zone driven and relied on the power but conceded that many teams were doing that. He started going to more wide zone. In fact in 2021 the Tribe ran more wide zone than anyone in football. He has a Run-First Mentality!

He then studied Baylor offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes was doing with the speed option and what Coastal Carolina did with its unique ways to build off of the triple option along with what Josh Gattis and Michigan did in 2021 with their motions and ways they dressed plays up. The result for William & Mary in 2022 was employing a triple option threat but dressing it up out of pro-style sets, from all sorts of formations, and motions coming out of it, with bootlegs, play action off it and screens. What’s even more vexing for defenses is all of the two-quarterback stuff the Tribe has built into it.

In 2021, William & Mary led the CAA with 205 rushing yards per game (No. 12 in the country) and had a league-best 5.0 yards per carry. In 2022, Taylor incorporated a bunch of plays utilizing two quarterbacks on the field at the same time to go with more triple option concepts. Those number jumped even higher, to an average of 266 yards on the ground (third-best in the nation) and 6.0 yards per carry to go with an average of 7.1 yards per play overall (fourth-best nationally).

That is all great. However, what good are plays utilizing 2 qbs when we don't even have 1 qb to put out there?
 
Look creative and our offense haven’t been used in the same sentence since Joe Tiller so I’m cautiously optimistic. Sounds like we need an experienced athletic QB.

Lets give him a chance to get a QB, they had two QBs at that time and used both of them. The bottomline he will be able to scheme with the player s he has unlike J.Johnson.
 
I’ve been out of the loop a bit lately. Is Jovon Bouknight still with the Pokes’ coaching staff in some capacity? WR coach? Thanks in advance for any info.

Last UW release stated Bouknight will stay on staff and coach receivers in 2026. But I don't think the offensive staff is completed yet and I suspect things could change.
 
We now have 3 offensive linemen playing in the Hula Bowl (Jack Walsh, Caden Barnett and Evan Svoboda), 1 going to the Senior Bowl (Gyllenborg) and at least 1 going to a P4 (Wes King) and a possible 2nd (Luke Sandy). How was it possible that our offense couldn't run the ball or do anything this past year if we apparently had that kind of talent on the line?!?! Truly amazing.

Svoboda is there because Bohl persuaded the Hula Bowl people. He didn't earn it.

Bad schemes make good players life really tough, while good schemes make mediocre players look better than they actually are.
