2024/2025 Wrestling Season

They did invest in a nice wrestling facility. The one at UW is also great compared to other programs around the nation. They do have a lot of 6 and 7 year guys **COVID** so they are truly a "senior" team in terms of college athletics. They also did well in the transfer portal with 3 or 4 Iowa transfers. I am not discounting Hahn ability to coach but those guys probably came as a package deal from Iowa. They almost may get better NIL money than UW

Well we used to kick their ass routinely when we were in the western wrestling conference with them.
True. Branch, imo, needs to finish in the top 15 at NCAAs sometime soon or move on. He should not have a lifetime contract here if he does not preform. BUT, I’m hopeful next year will be the year. We have a pretty good lineup and we get everyone back next year… hopefully.

I think our facility is not great. The room is tiny. The locker rooms are nice, but the room is small. Not even two full mats big

The lineup next year could be stout for sure

125 Volk
133 - I am not sure O'Brien can keep making this cut. Charmoli was a big recruit 133 so he could compete here
141 Brooks
149 Willochel
157 Swan
165 Hill
174 Depends if Ducca or Davis can stay healthy. The Foard or Henry incoming maybe names to watch
184 Neitenbach
197 Novak
HWT Zimmer has been injured a lot. Wonder if transfer portal is used here again.

Wyoming a pretty uninspiring 10th out of 14 teams at the Big 12s. Neitenbach and Mitchell 4th while Hill and Novak take 5th. Willochell and Brooks take 8th.

Yeah. That sucked. No one, but Eddie, Mitchell and Hill stepped up.
I’m not sure Eddie deserves too much credit. He received a medial forfeit in the consolation semis and then lost the 3/4. But he did have a nice freshman season.

Mitchell had the best tourney by far of any Cowboy. He was seeded 8th and gave himself a trip to the NCAAs with his consolation work.

Novak didn’t qualify for the NCAAs. He now has to wait to see if he gets an at large which I suspect he will probably get.

It would be really great to see some of these guys get on a roll and win a few unexpected matches. We’ve seen it happen in the past.
Few expected a 14th seeded sophomore Bryce Meredith to make the NCAA finals after finishing 3rd at the Big 12s.

I believe Meredith was like 25-5 in his sophomore year before the NCAAs. Novak is 22-5 this year as a sophomore I believe. Just saying.

Brooks is also an alternate at 141. If a 141 can't go at NCAA then he will get a shot.

Gabe getting one of the 6 at large isn't too much of surprise as his RPI and Coaches rank were the best behind one other needing an at-large. He did wrestle injured after his first match at Big 12.

Eddie and Gabe can be huge landmines in their brackets that should be released today. Joey will probably be a 15 seed with Eddie and Gabe around the 20 mark.

Cowboys keep streak of underwhelming NCAAT performances alive.

13 seed Jared Hill goes 0-2 losing both to lower seeds. Actually being pinned by the 29 seed.

30 seed Gabe Willochell goes 0-2

19 seed Neitenbach goes 1-1. Lost 10-0 to the 14 seed and came back to pin 33 seed.

15 seed Novak goes 1-1. Beats the 18 seed and then was teched by 2 seed former Cowboy Buchanan.

30 seed Sam Mitchell goes 1-2. Teched by 3 seed. Beat 33 seed 5-0 in pigtail. Pinned by 19 seed.

I still see Novak as our best hope for a run. But these NCAAT performances largely have been a broken record since Meredith left.
