WyoNation Bracketology: Week 11
The Miami Hurricanes had their perfect season come to and end this weekend at the hands of Georgia Tech. Miami was in a prime position to grab one of the top four seeds in the twelve team playoff bracket now find themselves sitting in the unenviable position of playing a very good B1G or SEC team. Miami mounted a fourth quarter comeback but the Yellowjacket offense did just enough to ice the game. Huge win for the Yellowjackets. In other upsets this past weekend we had Georgia take a loss to Ole Miss. The Bulldogs still find themselves in the latest playoff bracket, but their road just got significantly more difficult. Their loss to Ole Miss helped the Rebels move up the rankings, but not quite enough to find themselves in the...
Wrestling Report: Wyoming vs Western Wyoming Community College
Good Morning, Wyoming Wrestling Fans, this is a report from Shea Foster. Wyoming hosted back-to-back NJCAA wrestling champions Western Wyoming Community College for the second year in a row. A couple of years ago Wyoming had a murders row at 165-HWT starting with Branson Ashworth; this year it starts at 125 Volk and runs through HWT. The dual started at 125 with some back and forth between Sefton Douglass (Wyoming kid) and Jore. Jore had Sefton on a front headlock and bounced his head to a go behind and a three to end the period 3-0. I am unsure if Sefton was trying for a duck under on Jore but somehow Jore disappeared behind Sefton and pulled him to the mat and the pin. 133 Stockton O’Brien (Utah Valley transfer) came in and was...
Wyoming is Special
Friends of Wyoming Athletics: The world of intercollegiate athletics has never experienced so much change. I have heard from a few of our loyal fans who feel it has shifted away from what they value. I understand your concerns and greatly appreciate your perspective, and I wanted to write this letter to offer my thoughts on the direction of UW Athletics. Most importantly, I believe strongly that our best days are ahead if we commit to doing what we always have - rally behind the young men and women who choose to call Wyoming home. I want to be clear – no matter the changes, we will not lose sight of a student-athlete-centered model where young men and women come to UW to compete at the highest level and graduate with a world-class...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 9
- From UW Press Release - LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/5/24) – Buffalo kicker Tyler Bass had struggled for the majority of this season coming into Sunday’s game against Miami. The mishaps continued during the game with a missed extra point and another that went off the upright and in. However, when Bass needed a kick, and it was a long one at that, he got it. He nailed a 61-yard field goal with five seconds remaining to give the Bills a 30-27 victory that improved them to 7-2 on the year. The win preserved what was a very stout game from quarterback Josh Allen. The former University of Wyoming quarterback was 25-for-39 for 235 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. For the season, Allen is 168-for-262 for 2,001 yards with 17...
WyoNation Bracketology: Week 9
After a couple weeks off we're back with some bracketology. A little bit of personal life got in the way of getting this out to the masses. After a couple weeks off it appears that as much as things change, the more the stay the same. Oregon is still the top dog in this bracket, sitting alone at the top of the rankings and this bracket. The Ducks have reeled off some impressive wins and are in the driver's seat of the Big Ten. Georgia and Ohio State make cases for their spot at 2 or 3. However, for the purpose of the bracket Ohio State will occupy the five seed. Miami survived against Duke this past weekend. Cam Ward is kind of an insane player, but I'm still not convinced that Miami is a good team. The Big 12 is where things are...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 8
From UW Press Release LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/29/24) – The Buffalo Bills continue to have a very strong season despite all the personnel losses from last year. One that didn’t leave is Josh Allen, and he’s the main reason the ship hasn’t wobbled one bit in 2024-25. The former University of Wyoming quarterback continues to play at an MVP-type level for 6-2 Buffalo. On Sunday at Seattle, Allen was 24-for-34 for 289 yards with two touchdowns and his first interception of the season. He added seven carries for 25 yards. For the season, Allen is 143-for-223 for 1,772 yards with 14 touchdowns and one pick. One the ground, he’s carried it 45 times for 204 yards and three scores. Buffalo hosts Miami in Week 9. Below is a list of the other former...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 7
From UW Press Release LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/22/24) – The Cincinnati Bengals are in the process of digging themselves out of an early-season hole. They defeated Cleveland on Sunday, 21-14, for their second win in a row behind another strong performance by Logan Wilson. The Casper native racked up 10 tackles. Wilson now boasts at least nine tackles in every game this year. For the season, he owns 71 tackles – which ranks in a tie for third in the league – one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and four quarterback hits. The 3-4 Bengals host Philadelphia in Week 8. Below is a list of the other former University of Wyoming student-athletes and how they did in Week 7. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills Allen had one of his best passing games of the...
WyoNation Bracketology: Week 7
If you missed out on the Oregon vs Ohio State game on Saturday night you did yourself a disservice of watching college football. What a terrific game, an excellent finish, and Dan Lanning galaxy braining everyone with an intentional 12 men on the field penalty to force time off the clock. The game ending on a whimper, quarterback Will Howard sliding down on a QB keeper with no time remaining. A misjudgment of time and space on the field, but in the end Oregon is now the #2 ranked team in the country. Other happenings last week included LSU winning an absolutely fun game against Ole Miss in Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge on Saturday night is always a sight to behold and this one was one for the ages. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier hit...
