I just returned from ABQ and feel like venting a little.
My observations from row 34 has me picking on our offense. I haven't checked to see how many times the Temple stud running back carried the ball, but I know he hit the 100 yd mark. What he didn't do was bust out for big runs, what he did do was get 4 and 7 yards all day. I think the defense focused entirely on stopping him as best they could (and I think that was their best). That left the tight end to clean up and we do not have an answer for a tight end. As for tackling...hey, if tucking in your arms and dropping the shoulder somewhere in front of the guy with the ball in good enough for the pros, it must be good enough for college. :twocents:

Alvester touches the ball 8 times. He should be touching it 18 times.
The spread...Oh, I recall that offense, that's where they pitch the ball to the outside on the option. The other main play in this spread is the wide receiver screen to the outside..the screen I had hoped they had erased from the playbook for this game.
I did not see one thing new out of the offense. I didn't see any bunch wide receiver formations (that wasn't going to be a WR screen).
I didn't see any quick slants.
I didn't see more than two well constructed pass plays the entire game. There were pass completions, but most were off scrambles or defensive breakdown. Not a hint of what we saw against SDSU. :brick:
What I saw from Temple was solid fundamentals, one on one tackles, stick with what you do well, no trickery and get the ball into the hands of your best player even if he isn't busting out with some big runs. Temple is the one who might need to worry about keeping their coach. Not us.
