Wyoming Spring Practice 2014

I can see why the RBs are going East/West. It's all they were told to do the last 5 seasons. At times, it was amazing how they were able to get anything at all.

Also looks like we finally get to see a defense not afraid to blitz when needed (we blitzed maybe 2 times a game under DC), though blitzing is not really the Tampa 2. Maybe Bohl is going for a more standard 4-3 defense?

And not surprised it'll take the o-line a while to adjust. They're going from a spread offense (big gaps between and spreading out the defense) to a closer and tighter pro set offense. Going from a (supposedly) technical offense to a more smashmouth style.

Just listening to Dave C in Utah now makes my blood boil. That guy has totally forgot about his players in Wyoming. No loyalty at all to them. See his ugly mug on the tv. I sure hope Bohl turns this around quickly.

Vorel: NEXT MAN UP

With Huff gone, Wyoming safeties compete for playing time

Where's No. 2?

He isn't in the defensive backs room -- his confident, booming voice carrying jubilantly above the crowd. He's not in the secondary, either, the yard where he used to roam like a lion stalking its prey. He isn't on the sideline, pacing from one end to the other, motivating his troops before deployment.

Notes and Quotes: TE coach LaDage finally settles in Wyoming

For Shane LaDage, it was only a matter of time.

Wyoming's first-year tight ends coach is plenty familiar with his new team. LaDage grew up in Parker, Colo., where he had two favorite teams: the Colorado Buffs and the Wyoming Cowboys. During high school, he was recruited by Wyoming coach Joe Glenn and eventually offered a spot as a walk-on.

Vorel's small Twitter details may only be 140 characters at a time, but it seems like there is MUCH more content this spring than ever before.

Well DC was anti media on everything football, Sometimes I wonder if the anti media was just a method to get away with being lazy in the off season but I'll leave that discussion for another thread another time.

No doubt, Bohl is a showman, and in a small state sometimes you have to kiss babies and asses. DC sucked at both.

Wyoming Spring Football: UW offensive line trying to learn the fine details (WyoSports.net)

The University of Wyoming’s offense wants to be physical and have a power running game.

It starts with the offensive line, and the good news for the Cowboys is they return seven linemen who have started games in their careers.

While the thought for any offensive lineman to be more physical and hit more defenders sounds good, it is not that easy.

Well, that explains a lot of the problems we've had on the o-line. They were just told to block in a general direction, not given any actual assignments or really taught how to adjust. No wonder we struggled against even 3 defenders rushing the last several years.

No doubt, I remember what Boise st's front three did to our line.

"Blocking an area" is the general rule of zone blocking, but you need to have some rules in place to help linemen deal with different situations. If you don't, stunts and delayed blitzes will kill your blocking schemes. Sounds like the last staff didn't know how to coach an O line (even though Christensen was a lineman himself).

From the sounds of it though, and from what I saw, they were told to go in a general direction for blocking, regardless of what the defense was doing (not adjusting to the situation), and that really hurt us (how often did a defender get into the backfield unblocked?).

Very Good Radio Interview of Craig Bohl With Gary Sharp (1620 The Zone in Omaha)

https://soundcloud.com/#liquid-shane-o/april-3-seg-5-with-wyoming

Highlights of Interview:

"Wyoming was always a school I had a great fondness about....they have people who care deeply about Cowboy football."

"When our football team (NDSU) went down and beat Kansas State in Manhattan and had to come up with an eight minute drive and score with 30 seconds left, I knew right then that this platform could work nationally at the right school."

"I think the University of Wyoming has lost its way. I mean, we have guys on the team from Germany and Samoa and I look at the roster and say 'Do we have any guys from the state of Nebraska?' We're going to have hard-working midwest guys."

"Well, surprisingly, they're (the facilities) outstanding. What has happened because of the blessings of our state with natural gas, coal and oil, we've got some great facilities here."

"We really believe when a young man comes out and gets on our campus and looks at our facilities, whether it's our indoor practice facility or weightroom -- we have plans now for a state-of-the-art training table -- all of these things are elements to be very successful."

"Our staff has really engaged the players here at the University of Wyoming. They did not choose us, the facts are we chose them because we see greatness here."

"We're going to snap the ball with about one second left on the clock. We're going to play for the fourth quarter, we're going to grind it out. People can say whatever they want to, but when you've got somebody coming off looking you in the eye and KNOCKING THE CRAP OUT OF YOU, after awhile people won't like that. It's old-time football and it works!"

"This is a great place and we're going to re-establish Cowboy football."
