Wyoming @ Nevada

@Ben_Fred: #MW will review Brett's penalties at the first of the week. His suspension does not carry over. League could add on if sees fit, though

That is how you see it so that's just merely your opinion on the subject. We were given 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties following touchdowns and neither were excessive, choreographed or team celebrations. Unfortunately the horrific camera worked didn't really give us a good opportunity to see the so called celebration so we can just agree to disagree.

To the camera work. Lets talk about the fumbled touchdown Nevada had on fourth and goal. The awesome broadcast really helped us in that review. I will say I was pleasantly surprised by their commentators.

There are a few things that interest me about this game. Sure, we gave up only 127 yards, but the problem just moved to the passing game. Maybe next game they'll be able to defend against the pass and the run.

3rd down efficiencies were looking good until we lost Brett Smith. The turnovers killed us, expecially when both went directly to nevada scoring.

Nevada is a good team - have to give them credit for winning that game. I am, frankly, consistently amazed we have been keeping these games so close when giving up so many defensive yards!

To bad we wasted a good defensive effort by the front 7 in stopping the run. If we had played like that in game 2 and 3 we would have been 3-1 going into this game. Incredible we are 6 points away from being 4-1 but sit 1-4.... yuck.

We are probably the best 1-4 team in the country but I'd rather be the worst 4-1 team... this stinks.

Brett is a sophomore, and apparently the only guy on the team to be fired up enough to be pissed off.

Some of ya'll amaze me. There are 50 some other guys on this team and a few dozen coaches who should be feeling like failures right now.

That has to be the first time this year we won the rushing or time of possession battles and to do it against the #1 rushing team in the nation says something. We stopped what they do best and forced them to beat us another way... unfortunately, it wasn't enough.

Smith is always quoting scripture on his twitter...here is one for you Brett.

1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

So disappointed, djm. this is a low-blow. publicly spitting scripture at him right now? wow. not cool. if you think brett is not a humble guy, you don't know him at all.

I am not meaning it in a bad way. He is young. I get that. Just disappointed. Composure and humility is what we needed. And he lost his cool. You are right, though. I am not meaning to spit on it. I admire the heck out of Brett. Just frustrated. This whole thread has blown up.

@Ben_Fred: Brett Smith in tears after the game. Said emotions got the best of him. Said he was not ready to talk about the penalties. #gowyo

Is this maturity?

Might be a good thing in the long run. These are good building opportunities for these players.. ... I hope.

You're the young stud. No one else, including your coaches, give 2 shits about winning. What do you do differently?

The celebration was absolutely BS he did nothing wrong, Nevada picked brett off and went to the crowd and started giving high fives and nothing was called. Brett took his helmet off and yelled, just dumb, even though it was PI i cant get over this loss unreal. Putting Colby in was just plain stupid, why? if JT messes up the play he couldve ran for a yard. We pissed this one away. Unreal.

After calming down a bit, I have a different perspective. I feel bad for the kids. Heard Brett was in tears. Last week was the first win for many of the players and today could have been a turning point on the season. I feel that maybe most of us are being too selfish when we vent after a loss. We are just spectators to kids playing a game. I think they feel worse than we do. They showed some guts today and should have been on the winning side. I hope they take this and build upon their progress.

Yep. Except I still can't forgive dc yet. Absolutely Stupid coaching.

I don't know....I find myself questioning whether anybody on this team except Smith even cares if they win or lose. At least someone on that field has a pulse.

And for those of you saying "the defense stepped up" and "if the defense plays like this the rest of the way we will be alright," the defense gave up 565 yards of offense. Not exactly a steel curtain.

Oh, and Marqueston Huff got burnt twice more for touchdowns on the flight home I heard.

Got back from Reno (also a trip earlier today to Lake Tahoe, very pretty place).

But yeah, there were some phantom PI calls on us (even the UNR fans next to me said so), Smith was penalized for doing his usual thing after scoring a TD, and then was penalized for letting his opinion be known on how we got screwed over on another call (when the UNR player should have been called for PI, refs let it go), and thus was thrown out. Thompson, the kid is not afraid of taking a hit, and even shoulder thumped a UNR player while running. He played just as hard (though sadly, not as well) as Brett did. He has a cannon for an arm, to be sure, but he needs to learn to control it better.

And we had the ball on 4th and short, 1:33 left in the game, and we punt it. One good push up front (which we had been doing all first half on simple handoffs), and we would of had the 1st down. A HB dive or something, and we could have killed the clock. That was the bad decision I thought.

Glad to get feedback from someone who was there live. I watched online but it was pretty awful production, it reminded me of what the manager of a team would produce. I was glad to be listening to KOWB so I at least got good analysis. They just didn't show replays of the personal fouls so we didn't get a big picture of what happened. I have watched enough from brett to believe he didn't warrent two unsportsmanlike penalties in the game and the overall officiating seemed to be hap hazard. I don't know why we didn't turn to Easton in the second half at all, he was hitting 3 yards a pop in the first half.
