I just want to caution everyone not to hold this kid and other QBs who will enter the program up to Josh Allen's standards. I think this guy can have a good career as a Poke, but there will be only one Josh Allen. I would say the same about any future RBs who enter the program as well.

That being said, I'm very excited about this commitment!

3-star prep quarterback commits to Wyoming (WyoSports.net)

“I really enjoyed what (UW offensive coordinator Brent Vigen) does with the quarterbacks over there, and I got a chance to be trained under him during camp this summer,” Vander Waal said during a phone interview Wednesday night.

“(Vigen) can really turn those guys into something special. Look at what he did with Carson Wentz (who Vigen coached at North Dakota State and is now a rookie with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles), and I really think I have that potential.

“I also like what (UW coach Craig Bohl) is doing with the program. They’re really on the rise and really want to be a part of that. Cowboy Nation was the place for me.”

Satellite camps paying off!!! Thank you NCAA for reversing that decision!

Come on man. He's a good catch for a quarterback. Wyoming isn't a stranger to having good quarterbacks in the past. We'd all be happy if he is as good as ACS or Brett Smith. Hell, maybe he outdoes Allen (its just way too early in Allens career and Waal's career to tell).

One of the most important things is looking at the universities that were recruiting him. Cal, Boise, and he chose us. Thats a win right there.

I never said otherwise. I think he can be a good QB, but I know when I watch the tape it initially looked like a downgrade. But I had to remind myself that Allen is a special talent and a bit of a unicorn, and comparing future QBs to Allen is unfair to them. That's all I was saying.

I get what you're saying, but those schools never offered him a scholarship. From what I can tell, it was Ball State, Northern Arizona and us. And that's okay. Programs miss on a guy sometimes. Just look at the offer lists for Josh Allen (EMU, Wyoming) and Brian Hill (NIU, EMU, Georgia State, Wyoming).

I like how he think he's got high potential himself. Overall, he looks like a good player. I certainly like his delivery/throwing motion better that the one that just quit. Welcome, Tyler!

I kind of doubt Allen looked like a superstar on in recruiting tapes, or more teams than Eastern Michigan and Indiana might have shown interest. Also unlikely he would've only had 2 stars.
