Wyoming giving out 7,000 student tickets for Nebraska

Students can now start picking up their tickets for the Nebraska game. They said there are 7,000 tickets available to students. You can't resell these tickets because they are requiring you to show your student ID for gate entry.

I was wondering how the student ticket process would work. I suspect that some students will still try to sell the tickets somehow since they could get such a good price for them. I guess nothing will stop them from "selling" the tickets. But the buyer may be surprised to find out they can't use it to get in the gate!

Ok so then why not sell your student ID along with the ticket? I would just charge the price of the ticket+the cost of ID replacement or have that person slide your ID card back through the fence after they are inside. The ticket workers don't actually look at the picture...

That might be fine if you actually know the person. But you'd have to be an idiot to give your ID to a stranger.

As long as you don't have any campus money on it what would it matter? Just report it lost and get a new one. What could anyone do with a student id?

Don't know. But I do know my cousin won't be selling his. Not everyday you can see a Husker game for free.

You gotta be kidding? For starters, just fact that someone else has it is a problem. Maybe on their way out they smash a car window and throw it in or drop it. The the police are asking why you were there. Maybe the guy gets in a fender bender. Tells the police he lost his DL but gives the cop the ID (Very similar thing happened to a friend). Second, I have no idea what info is stored on those. Third, just matching the name and photo give an id thief a head start. A simple search will reveal several possible DOB and it will be easy for them to match one to the owner of the card. So then they have the photo, the name, the address, and date of birth. Use a phony SSN and they are opening accounts in the student's name. All just to make a few bucks selling the ticket?

Ok so by your point that could be the case with any lost or stolen student ID, which are all over campus. Working for the university I can't tell you how many lost ID's I find a semester, in fact there are 9 on my desk right now. Walk through the Union one day, you will find as many as you want. Someone could find out much more information about me by using the faculty/staff directory or even facebook, than you could from my student ID.

Any competent officer would not accept only a student ID as a form of identification. In fact, Dealing with the UWPD daily even they won't accept it as a proper form of identification without running it through their computer against a state issued ID. A state officer would be required to do the same.

By your logic hundreds of students a year should be getting their identity stolen, because that's about how many lost ID's I get turned into my desk a year.

let's come at this from a couple different angles

first, the argument that they won't check the picture on the ID's seems shoddy to me considering that it might raise a couple eyebrows that some 50 year old dude wearing all red is presenting a wyoming student ID...i'm thinking that might at least warrant a double take by the ticket checker

furthermore, i'm trying to imagine to imagine the scenario in which a nub fan would be willing to pay the kind of money people are talking about for these tickets and someone's student ID just so they can travel all the way to laramie just for a CHANCE that they'll be able to get into a WYOMING game...nub fans are loyal.....and arrogant......but i don't think they're that stupid.............the game's on tv, and I just don't think that invading our little war memorial, which hasn't had a season average above 20,000 hardly ever, will be on the top of their priority list

Cornpoke, you are a university employee that is advocating that students sell their student id? I'll assume from your name you are also a Husker fan. And you prefer to see as many nebraska fans as possible in the stadium that day. So you're trying to assure students that there is no risk in selling the id along with the ticket. Not only is that VERY irresponsible, it is WRONG. And as Wyosteeler points out, I suspect they will be checking those ids at the gate when there is an obvious mismatch.

Many years ago, I was able to get into a game using a student ticket and a student ID from somebody I didn't know. The difference was, I was a Cowboy fan and was a poor college student from a different school. My old High School friends that were going to UW hooked me up. I was the right age and wearing the right colors so nobody suspected a thing! And it was a lot cheaper than dropping $35 on a ticket and sitting on the opposite side of the stadium as the rest of my friends.

Oh the memories... I remember that game vividly. The Pokes were playing the Rams and Dimel was coaching at the time. One of my friends was frustrated with something Dimel did and threw a bottle at him from the student section, nearly hitting him and it landed out on the field at the hash marks. He regretted it as soon as he did it and was relieved that it didn't actually hit him. Dana Dimel spent the rest of his coaching days at Wyoming up in the press box. I have to believe the incident influenced his decision...

I was at that game. I would have loved to have met your friend....and educated him on a couple of things. What a douche bag (I wont even consider using the new term of "chase" as it would be an insult to "chase"... I find it odd that you would brag about that incident. WOW, nothing says class like your friend. Glad he represented Wyoming so well.

Charpy did say that his friend regretted it immediately. We all make mistakes. As long as he knows it was a dick move and never does it again I'd say lesson learned.

There were several of us in disbelief that he did what he did and obviously we were all pissed to say the least. Like I say, he regretted it immediately and new he was in the wrong. I didn't mean for it to sound like I was bragging about the situation. I was writing of the fond memories of going to the game, getting in under questionable moral circumstances, having a great time, even though it was a loss. That was all a lot of fun. But yes, unfortunately that incident also occurred in the same game. It was dumb. None of us are proud of it. Nobody actually got hurt or sent to jail so it is just a story to tell.

Anyway, yes students have given out their tickets and ID's in the past, I find it very difficult to believe a Nebraska fan will benefit from a student's attempt to make a little cash. I'd say it is more likely that a Cowboys fan might get to benefit from a student selling their ticket...

Wow! Let's move on!

I've been following WyoNation for about 6 months and can't wait to see all the discussion when Football and Basketball are in session!

I'm in NO WAY a husker fan and I take offense to that. I can't stand all the Husker apparel wearing that is on our campus. I'm always quick to remind a student wearing Nebraska/Texas gear what school they attend. I don't want to see any red in the stands. I haven't told ANY student to sell their ticket or ID. I'm just mentioning the possibility of what could happen if a student really wanted to get around the rule. I want as much brown and gold as possible in the stands come game day. I just worry about certain ways students will be getting around not being able to sell their ticket.

I remember back to the Texas game they informed students they would need to have their ticket along with showing their student ID. Guess what happened at the gate that Saturday? They were only checking for the ticket and not even looking at the student ID. Just another reason I mention these things because I see and know what actually goes on.

Cornpoke, I will apologize for assuming you were a shucker fan.(I wouldnt want to be falsly accused of that either) I appreciate that you are not encouraging the sale of student tickets and ids. Students are provided admission to athletic events at no additional charge so that THEY may participate in the college experience and to help boost the hometown atmosphere at those games. If students are abusing that privilege for financial gain, at the expense of other "would-be paying" fans, then it may be time to revisit this policy. At a minimum, I would support a policy that any student that is caught selling their ticket, or whose ID is used to admit another person, loose their privilege of attending future events free of charge.

To clear everything up student tickets are free. In a few days or a week students will have the option to buy 1 student guest ticket for $75. This ticket does not require an ID for entry. This ticket can be sold and by the looks of stub hub lately it looks like you could profit over $100 from the sale of one ticket.

Where are all these tickets coming from? With the season ticket holders, the CJC allocated tickets, the Nebraska allotment, etc.

I've heard some of the CJC allocated tickets are in the student section too. I don't see how the students will be allowed to buy an extra ticket.
