Welcome to WyoNation! Interesting first post.
I am guessing you work for the CST? If not, I apologize for the below rant. Sincerely, I apologize.
So...the CST, in all their whoring around within the media circles in Wyoming, needs to drive more traffic to their shit website and error-filled rag, as clearly they are hurting. So, they dig up a dead horse, and start kicking it again? Fuck that, fuck them, and fuck this. Absolutely ridiculous that this is brought up again, and great timing...kick the team when they are down - assholes. I suggest everyone here boycott the CST, and everything to do with it.
And while I am at it...shame on Burman for putting us (and keeping us) in the shadows of this shitstorm.

There used to be an attendance requirement 5-10 years ago requiring an average of 17,000 a year, I believe.
As for the yearly reclassification article from the CST, until Wyoming enjoys the successes of Boise St. and San Diego State (this year) these articles will continue to appear. I think part of it stems from the fact that there's a faction in Casper still ticked off the UW is located in Laramie and the Legislature won't fund the expansion of Casper College to university status.
Also, if you read the comments to the story one of the comments (who's self description sounds like one of the Gosars) claims that division I football is an escalating arms war. I agree with that rational. However, I disagree with the claim that it will result in many schools moving down in coming years. That I disagree with, especially since many schools are currently moving up either from division II to fcs or fcs to fbs. I can't believe that those schools are making those decisions blind.
What I think may happen is that the Power 5 will be upgraded to an fbs elite level with the group of 5 getting a designation a step below. Which is kind of what we currently have, but without the labels.

The news and media doesn't play the same role as it did 20 or 40 years ago. Today, they are like a bunch of cheerleaders that are just trying to get you riled up and pissed off at what the other team is doing. They are trying to force that divide too. At any cost.

I guess my point with comparing the two is that you have a corporate owned and historically significant news source but it's getting its ass handed to it by what is effectively just a few people with no real news training that just bought a couple of URLs

The internet has surrounded and infiltrated traditional media with the equivalent of the wild, wild West. Sure, it's wide open and shaking up the stodgy, wedged-in news firms (especially print media), but it's also diluted the quality of reportage. The upshot is that less-discerning and less-critical minds are easily swayed by patent untruths, while others find themselves doing what was once the job of serious journalists by vetting and confirming what they are getting from less-accredited sources.whyoh said:Lol.....you do have a pointWyoBrandX said:pitchengine = facebook gossip with some news sources.

Your'e buying the hype. Read through the thread and try to think about it before going all Chicken Little.ragtimejoe1 said:I don't get it. UW reports that football makes money and helps subsidize other sports.
Is that incorrect? If it makes money, why the huge bullseye?
I get that we have to offer other women's sports because of football. However, to save money by cutting football, you would then have to cut several other sports in order to truly save money.
I'm sure I missed it, but where is Burman's explanation of all of this?

Never in my life have I experienced so many people (generally less-educated) who are not shy about spouting off utter nonsense, basically because, "...it was on the internet." Sure, with cheap computers, tablets, and smart phones, we have made more information more accessible and brought more equality of knowledge inventory, but we've also dumbed down the public discourse with people's false confidence in their sources and information.

Cannot believe that we, as a country, missed out on 8 years of Romney. That truly was a turning point in our nation. You could not have created a more perfect candidate in a lab than Romney.Asmodeanreborn said:whyoh said:Look no further than (both sides) the current presidential race
OT, but... how much do people think Romney wishes he had been running this year instead?
Or would Trump somehow have gotten nominated anyway?

There is no "huge bullseye" and no one that really matters is talking about it...
Reading comprehension- try it. No one that matters is bringing it up. As far as the University is concerned, our FBS status is not on the table.ragtimejoe1 said:Wyovanian said:Your'e buying the hype. Read through the thread and try to think about it before going all Chicken Little.

Actually, I've seen a few cases questioning dropping down in football. Perhaps this is the first you've seen.
Point remains of why the topic even surfaces since football makes money, at least according to the data releases by UW. The only way to save money by dropping football or dropping down would be to also cut some womens' sports. Again, the point remains that a discussion of the actual economics is rarely if ever included. I probably missed it, but I'm sure Burman has clearly explained how football generates revenue. I guess I also missed the articles, faculty, etc. questioning the existence or "level" affiliation of other sports since football is not singled out in these types of discussions (i.e. no bullseye).
Not sure how highlighting the fact that football makes money and wondering why that point is often overlooked is going all chicken little buto whatever floats your boat.

And yes, you missed it. You seem to have missed quite a lot...
