Wyoming AFA Game Thread

Colby won that game. Nothing else to say. He played like a stud tonight. Made some bad throws but made a ton of great throws. He looked good. Defense was stout on both sides. Good win.

He played like a stud in the last 3 mins of the game.

So the two or three long perfect passes earlier in the game meant nothing....?

Something has to be said about the D. Almost 8 minute drive by Air Force and they found a way to force a FG instead of a TD, allowing us to drive and win

When you go 4-14 on 3rd down, two good passes don't make up for all the bad. He didn't make mistakes and that is a good thing but if he played like a stud all game we would have scored 3-4 TD's the last 3 min drive he was a stud.

A Christensen coached team would have folded in this one. A prime example of leadership is to find a way, and will a team to a Win. I counted two penalties tonight. another milestone. We had some other shots, didn't really like that play calling with the ball on the 30 with 4th and 1. Kirk was legit on that final drive and took some big hits in the pocket looking over his progressions. He was not staring down his receivers, and was proven resilient for a credible W. Third down conversions hurt us a ton tonight, but it seems we're finding ways to win. Going into Oregon, yikes...oh well, we're 2-0, can't ask for much more at this juncture.

The end to that game seems to be giving some people that warm feeling about Colby. He was far from good today, but he was solid. He was much better than last week with his decision making and he did have a few good throws. He also had some bad ones as well. He did his job and helped the team win. Hopefully he builds on this game and continues to be solid and mistake free.

The punter for Air Force nearly won the game for them. He had an unreal performance and was constantly pinning Wyoming deep. If Air Force had won, Howdy Doody definitely should have given him a game ball.

I have to apologize to Kirkegaard. He proved me wrong tonight.

He is a real QB and stood tall in the pocket. What a great win tonight and congrats to him and the team! Going forward, this team will be competitive and I expect Kirkegaard to keep gaining confidence. He is a completely different QB than I saw vs. Cal-Poly and Montana. He won't ever be Brett Smith or Josh Wallwork, but he can certainly manage the game as long as he keeps making smart decisions like we saw tonight.

That is the one thing I have to say about Kirk, Last week he made multiple bad decisions but this week he made none.

I am proud of the team. Proud of Colby.

I still don't think he is a D1 qb. Seems like a great kid who works his tail off.

Honestly we can't continue at this pace. I know it feels good to win but we need better Qb play for more than one or two drives. Unfortunately I don't think we have any other options.

If you told me we would be 2-0 to start the season with a third string qb I would be happy.

Kirk is improving from game to game and that's all I ask right now.

Which ESPN guy called that we would beat Air Force? I forget the name, but he called it!
Desmond Howard from ESPN GameDay picked AFA as the one service academy that would lose (all three were favored...something that has happened since like 1572). Also, ESPN Radio pick 'em (RJ Bell maybe? Guy who discusses lines on Friday afternoon) picked Wyoming as one of his three upsets.

Run game really got stuffed tonight...by the weakest, smallest front seven in the MW. These next few weeks could be huge. Oregon and Michigan State could break the will of this team going forward. Either way, I see some wins mixed with some harsh results ahead. Talent simply is not there just yet.

Run game was stuffed. The team that played Montana would have lost this game. Passing game improved enough to win. D remains solid enough for the MWC.

To me, that is encouraging. 2-0 is good right now. If we are 3-2 and reasonably healthy in 3 weeks, I'll be damn happy. That leaves us with HI, SJSU, CSU, FSU, and UNM to try to get 3 more wins from. Not that far fetched; I don't think even 4 wins is unreasonable.

I'd gladly take 6-6 or 7-5 with a bowl game this year.

This is exactly it. He proved me wrong in the second half but he really looked awful at points. I still believe we have a younger better option and when the time is right bohl will make the move but he did have a stellar last drive.

The problem with Kirk is that he disappears until the last 5 min of each half. We need him to show up like that for the entire game. If he would, he'd be a good QB.

Why not?

Who not? please don't tell me you are being serious. This team isn't a play from behind team. Going down by 3 is one thing and the defense has really won these last two games against some of the weakest teams at the FBS level.
