Colby really did a nice job today. I was very critical of his performance last week (which, in my defense, was awful), but he really played well for the most part today.
He missed some throws, but I thought he made smarter decisions today and clearly gained confidence.
Obviously AFA's pass defense is not good (we scored over 50 last year on them, so we shouldn't get too carried away with 17), but the MWC is not stocked with great defenses. AFA clearly dared WYO to pass (9 men in the box, I could frequently count all 11 AFA defenders on the screen prior to the snap), and Kirkegaard made them pay. That will be huge in the future and will open things up more for the running game.
Speaking of the running game, I don't think Wick is 100%, but whatever % he is the difference in power between him and May was pretty noticeable today. Neither had any openings, but Wick's ability to keep his feet churning and his body leaning forward led to a lot of 2 and 3 yard carries while May was getting 0 or -1.
In terms of defense, I think we are clearly improved and the Pokes we well prepared for the option, however we still have some big gaps and AFA let us off the hook. Pearson couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the 2nd half. One member of the secondary (name withheld, but obvious to all) was really in bad position all night. Was a problem last week as well.
Special teams was solid except for Claiborne's boneheaded play that didn't end up costing the Pokes anything.
