WYO/UH Game Thread

As a comparison.

People were calling for Jerry Kill to be fired after losing his second game at Minnesota to NMSU and his fourth game to NDSU. People thought he was in over his head, much like a number of people here seem to think is the case with Bohl.

Kill went 2-9 Year 1. After the season, still calling for his firing.

My point is that it takes years to build a program up with the right type of student-athletes to be competiive, not weeks. There may be some bad losses along the way, but that shouldn't take anything away from his credentials as a program builder.
We're not calling for firing him. We're wondering why, after all the bluster leading up to this game, that they pissed and shit their pants throughout the second half on both offense and defense. "War daddies"? More like "My Little Ponies".

Amen. Everyone had some false confidence after we got 3 "wins" and thought this was gonna turn around in a year? Its the same players different system. Next few years we recruit to the system and see what happens. Saban would have a hard time winning with these guys right now....

Our offense still can't score many points. Only 21 today. And still no points coming out of halftime.

I was hoping we could change that. Tomorrow's flight won't be as good now. I hate losing.

I agree to give Bohl time, but losses like this to Hawaii are completely unacceptable. Losing to Boise or USU next month, sure I give them some leeway. Losing to a very bad Hawaii team is complete garbage. Our secondary should feel ashamed of that performance. Embarrassing to the entire state, school, alumni, fans, pets, students, could go on all night.

This one bothers me more than most. I hate losing. I will have trouble sleeping tonight...I should have gone to school at Mississippi State! lol

As an alumni, I don't believe the youn men who played tonight should be embarrassed in any way. It's a new program, new coaches, new offensive & defensive schemes, with players who were recruited to play in schemes different than they played tonight. And they played honorably tonight. It was a tough fought loss - get over it and kick ass next week.

Lot of young guys out there in the secondary. Yeah they sucked but hopefully they learn and get better. Hawaii had the worst receiving Corp in the league. They looked great against our secondary though.BTW What the hell happened to Sonny Peulatasi and Yarbrough? Those dudes fell off the face of the earth.

Yarbrough has gotten pressure at times throughout the season, but pressures are not counted as stats, so there is that.

Going into this game, I was worried about our left side of the o-line, mainly because of starting Cummings. Oddly enough, it was the right side that was having a ton of issues. Cummings actually did pretty well for his first ever college game.

The secondary should be ashamed of their play. New coaches affect Football 101? Basic tackling?

Sorry, but this one stings. A lot.

I'm very disappointed in our secondary tonight. I appreciate them "giving it their all" and "laying it all out there" as the lame cliches go....but they are big boys and can handle criticism. Tonight's performance was putrid and they can take a little heat for it.

Life isn't always about participation ribbons for all. Comes a time to be accountbale. It's ok to fail and learn from mistakes. Now is the time. Plenty of mistakes, buck up and fix them.

You should throw up some video of your awesome secondary skills, so we can hold you accountable of calling those who actually played the game to be ashamed. You can be pissed off about the loss, but STFU about the players being ashamed.

The moew I see this year go on, the more I realize that Christensen only recruited recievers, running backs, and quarterbacks. He figures the qb would throw the ball so quickly thst he didn't need a o line.

He didn't bother with defense and robbed the best players from it thinking he would out score opponents.

Now that we have moved away from his gimmicky system, it's pretty obvious our coaches have a ton of development and recruiting to the new system.

Sucks to lose this one. I actually had a bad feeling when their starter was injured that the guy from the bench was going to rally them. The D was painful to watch.

Bohl seems like the right guy though. I just have to remind myself to be patient. I'll admit I let my hopes creep up there a bit.

They really executed that little screen play well. I would like to see more of that in the future.

Not sure how you fix the tackling issues? Anyone with a couple of half decent backs are going to raise hell with that kind of effort. I'm flummoxed over how we contained Air Force.

Gotta be ready for everyone on the schedule.

I remember a comment made by one of the guys calling the Mich. state game for espn. He said that our db's looked like smurfs up against the Mich st. receivers. Well, combine small size and below average speed and that's a perfect recipe for big plays and missed tackles. These guys are doing their best. Not everyone can be Deion Sanders or that loud mouth in Seattle.

This team could easily be 0-6. We've had a little luck, some clutch play at the end of games, and some home field karma with a new coach and players buying into his system. But the other teams watch film too. They see where we're vulnerable and they are going to go at our secondary and make us stop the run. They are going to make Colby beat us and stuff the run. And please stop blaming the play calling. I read this over and over when Glenn was coach and to a lesser extent, when DC was here. You think that guy upstairs doesn't see exactly what's happening? Maybe the perfect play call isn't made every time, but players have to execute. That's where the talent comes in. We don't have receivers who get separation (Herron - remember him?) and that makes it easy to single cover and blitz the qb. This program needs a big infusion of talent and that's why it's going to take some time.

Didn't watch the game last night, but s***s to see we lost. Looks like the second half did the Cowboys in. Hard to win a game when the defense gives up 513 yards and big plays. Woolsey's stats were scary... 8/9 for 173 yards and 2 TDs.

Things don't get any easier with San Jose State next week. Think we've got to get it on track fast, at practice this week.

I thought Woosley was supposed to be the bad QB?
38-28?
WTF?
The wheels have not fallen off people.
We can still win out or lose out.
Wyo beat Hawaii by 3 in OT in the middle of Winter in Wyoming last season with arguably the best QB Wyo has ever had who had to shatter several records that day just to get to the win.
This year we don't have that QB (or any comparable qb) and were playing in Hawaii.
Can't be all that surprised.
Plus like someone else said, this team could be 0-6.
Be glad we are 3-3.
Season starts over today.
6 game season, 3 wins gets Wyo to a bowl.
Wyo is still perfect in War Memorial where they play next.

Grind out a win next weekend and let's see how the coaches handle the Border War.

I realize that univ of utah players aren't Dave's guys, but to think that Utah is one point from being undefeated. DC bailed and left an inferno behind.

Regarding AF, they didn't run anywhere near as much as typical. They looked like they were able to pass all over the field. Their #9 was having his way - we won that one because they broke from the traditional game plan, and had too many dropped balls. That one was lucky. The only game that seemed to be never in too much doubt was to MT. Looking at the body of work so far. I am shocked we're not sitting at 1-5!

Very true. DC isn't the horrible coach Wyo fans make him out to be. But you can't say that without people freaking out.
But at the same time, DC couldn't figure a way out to even get 1 more score against Wazzu in that 2nd half collapse. Utah would be 6-0 and likely ranked in the Top 15.
