We get to see Nance and company versus Kravish (6'10" 240 pound senior forward) and company on December 10. Could be a war. Definitely will be a great game.

"The Cowboys will go as far as forward Larry Nance, Jr. takes them. Nance tore his ACL in February and missed the final stretch of the year, which saw Wyoming lose six of its final seven games. If Nance (15.4 points, 8.6 rebounds per game) is healthy, the Cowboys could be dangerous alongside guards Josh Adams and Riley Grabau. They'll also need to improve on a league-worst 28.9 rebounds per game."

The 15 least appreciated players in college basketball

Josh Adams, G, Wyoming: Ask any Mountain West coach about Adams and they'll immediately tell you he's one of the best players in the country that no one talks about. Hungry to compete and eager to challenge himself, Adams regularly guards the opposing team's best player and should really flourish after a strong finish to last season. Think a lower level version of Nick Johnson.

Those are predicted this year stats by CBS Sports. I personally believe like most sports sites they know nothing about Wyoming have done no research and only using a best guess system.

I've added comparison for all players that played last year and their predicted for this year. Basically they are predicting Hankerson, Cooke & TW3 will improve in all aspects of their game and Nance, Adams & Grabau will worsen.

Here are a few comments from a Utard journalist on the closed, situational scrimmage today in SLC. I guess Wyoming and the MWC is "mid major" competition:

Runnin' Utes play closed scrimmage against Wyoming

The Utes have already had one public intra-squad scrimmage, but they're still a few days out from Thursday's exhibition against Pacific.

With top-25 rankings and being picked No. 2 in the Pac-12, people want to know: What do the Utes look like against another team?

Utah now has some idea after playing a closed scrimmage against Wyoming on Saturday. Such sessions are notorious gray areas in NCAA rules: Teams can't publicize the session, and can't invite fans or media to watch.

But the Tribune has learned a few details from the game:

I guess nobody told this guy that the football conferences don't equate to the same strength in basketball. I would also bet that the Wyoming staff took a long look at the younger kids on the team and held out the starters to avoid injuries/issues. This guy makes it sound like Utah is back to the Rick Majerus final 4 team....what a dipshit.

I did not get the same impression from the article as you did. He seemed to draw what conclusions he could from what little a situational scrimmage could give. I didn't sense any delusions of grandeur in the slightest.

Yea I didn't see it as a knock on the Pokes, you have to remember Wyoming hasn't done anything special in years or under Shyatt. . YET

Yeah, I thought most knowledgeable basketball observers considered the MWC to be a "high major" conference, but what-the-hey, huh?! Goon deems anything non-power 5 conference as "mid major". That's his "working definition". Utah is big-time now! :thumb:

As for the situational scrimmage, I wouldn't put too much into the final stats without having all of the info. How much did Nance play against their Bigs, etc.?

Shyatt encouraged after scrimmage against Utah (WyoSports.net)

NCAA rules prohibit University of Wyoming men’s basketball coach Larry Shyatt from going into detail about his team’s closed scrimmage last Saturday at the University of Utah.

But Shyatt said Monday that there was a lot to be encouraged about.

“I thought our competitiveness and our defensive habits were good,” Shyatt said. “Most of all, we physically confronted our opponent better than we have in three years.”

Wyoming's Herndon, McManamen hope to make impact after redshirt year

Alan Herndon and Jason McManamen's offseasons have been longer than most.

Last season, they were the Cowboys you didn't see. Their work was private and relatively underappreciated. Their sweat in practices amounted to nothing that can be highlighted on a stat sheet.

Their work was invisible, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

And after a year of waiting, that diligence will soon meet its reward.
