UW-Air Force men's basketball Q&A with Brent Briggeman of The Gazette

Air Force beat New Mexico at home Wednesday night, is that the kind of win that could give the Falcons a boost of confidence heading into the rest of the season?

Absolutely. Air Force has been close on many occasions this year, as it had a chance to tie in the final minute at San Diego State, was within two possessions in the final minutes at New Mexico, was within one possession in the final minute versus Colorado State and played tight games against Boise State and at Utah State. So it is a team that has been right there on the cusp...

“I feel good about our players’ focus,” Shyatt said. “There’s been nothing to lead me to believe they won’t be focused. There have been some games where we didn’t play that well, but there hasn’t been a game where we weren’t sharp mentally or didn’t have a very strong idea of what we needed to do to win the game.”

“We’re going to have to be really sharp,” UW senior guard Riley Grabau said. “Air Force and that Princeton offense is tricky. They try to trick you in a lot of ways — and they usually do trick you.

Brent Briggeman: Wyoming's bad break marks a positive turn of events for Air Force (Gazette.com)

The Falcons, fresh off an upset of New Mexico on Wednesday, learned Friday that Mountain West-leading Wyoming may travel to the academy on Saturday without star forward Larry Nance Jr., who has mono.

"We're expecting him to play, but it sounds like there's a chance he won't," Air Force (10-12, 3-8 Mountain West) coach Dave Pilipovich said. "He's one of the best players in the league. When you lose a guy like that you're not going to be the same."

"Larry Shyatt said he believes he and team was not as organized as they could have been on Saturday against Air Force"

That's why Nance should have gone, but not played. They need his leadership. No one else stepped up to take his place in that category. Even if he can't or shouldn't play at SDSU, he should go to give support.

I agree Adv - Would have been a great move to let Larry pull a Willis Reed. Start the game and play literally one possession. Just seeing him out there would have shaken the Falcons and helped the Cowboys.

Maybe that tweet from Hankerson saying "This team is pretty sick" wasn't meant as "This team is bad ass" but more of a "This team has mono". Lol

Cowboys plan for SDSU with or without Nance (WyoSports.net)

“I really didn’t want to put our guys in a tizzy, so I chose to walk through five minutes’ worth,” Shyatt said. “I do not think we were as organized as we could have been losing 60 of those 80 minutes (in practice) when we knew we needed to replace (Nance) with new personnel.

“I wish I could have done a better job. But it was an early game and I wanted them to get their rest.”

Im reading between the lines here.... just my own feeling on this. Recuiting happened this week.

There may be a chance that a jc is going to be a late enrollee this semester, falling on this years scollie allotment. And maybe eric turner changed his mind.

I could be way wrong, and probably am. I dont know if its possible. But i just dont see him leaving unless it helps the team.
He committed to FIU per his Twitter.

Cowboys, Aztecs play for MW supremacy (WyoSports.net)

“People are really homing in on the lane when we pass the ball or dribble the ball,” Shyatt said. “There are usually at least four players defending the lane.

“What you have to do is when you do pass in the lane or when you drive it to the lane is stop and make good decisions inside out for kick-outs.

Added McManamen: “We’ve got to move the ball and make plays for each other. It’s what we’ve been doing all season. We’re a very unselfish team, and we set each other up for a lot of plays. That’s what we do best.”
