The TV guys said something about the VB team and Dunk Town, but I was confused at the time. I thought they were saying it was the VB team's slogan or something, but seeing the picture it's obvious I simply misheard.

Wyoming shuts down Colorado State again for Border War sweep

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Turns out, Wyoming's not just Colorado State's rival, but also the Rams' kryptonite.

Against any other opponent (save for at New Mexico), the free-flowing CSU offense runs like a well-oiled machine. But against the Pokes, the Rams are more like one of those clunkers you turn in for cash or spare parts.

"We're an NCAA Tournament team. ... I thought we played really hard. It just wasn't our night," Eustachy said. "Before we went into this game, I said I would like to see someone, unless you're one of (the top-10 teams in the country), come in and win this game tonight. That's how tough Wyoming is, and that's how tough our league is."

Lieberman, defense lift Wyoming over Colorado State

LARAMIE -- Larry Nance Jr. had a question for Jeremy Lieberman as the two were leaving the interview room following Wyoming’s convincing 59-48 victory over rival Colorado State on Wednesday.

“You want to take that with you?” Nance said, motioning back to the placard with Lieberman’s name on it.

“He was awesome,” UW senior Larry Nance Jr. said. “To come off the bench and play 16 minutes after two games of not seeing any [playing time] and be able to produce like that was awesome. We see him do this every day in practice. He’s a sniper.”

Wyoming matches effort of its student section in victory over Colorado State

LARAMIE -- They came early, and stayed loud.

Wyoming's student section arrived more than an hour before tip-off on Wednesday -- hoards of gold-clad students trudging through snow and slush into the friendly confines of the Arena-Auditorium. They came with costumes -- ninja turtle masks, fake wigs and giant panda heads.

They came -- all 2,203 of them -- bearing messages, too. One fan's sign read, "CSU loves Nickelback." Nearly the entire Wyoming volleyball team painted "#DUNKTOWNUSA" in consecutive letters across their midriffs.

“I thought this was a team victory,” said UW coach Larry Shyatt, whose team never trailed in the game. “Yes, we were fortunate they missed some 3s. Maybe we had a little to do with it.

“But they didn’t get many (shots) off in the first eight seconds (of each offensive possession). I thought our interior defense was tremendous. When they were hollering, ‘drive it, drive it, drive it,’ I thought our guys stayed on the floor and forced them to take some tough 2s.”

Cowboys crush Rams to complete season sweep

Wyoming, Eustachy said afterward, is an NCAA tournament team, too, as are MW members San Diego State and Boise State and his Rams.

But nobody expects more than three MW teams to make the tournament this year, so dropping two games in a season to a team that might wind up alongside CSU on the NCAA bubble when the 68-team field is announced is a big blow.

"It hurts," CSU senior guard Daniel Bejarano said. "... We knew it was a big game, and obviously we didn't win like we wanted to. We've got to move on."

Wyoming-CSU notebook: Lieberman gives Cowboys spark in win over Rams

He's one of the best shooters on the team - in practice.

Unfortunately, that shooting prowess hasn't carried over to the game much for University of Wyoming true freshman guard Jeremy Lieberman.

Not until Wednesday night against Border War rival Colorado State (19-4 overall, 6-4 Mountain West).

"He was awesome and awesome to watch," Nance said. "There were a few more times where I saw him spot up and wanted him to shoot it. We have a ton of confidence in him. We see him do it every day in practice. He's a sniper."

Vorel: Border War win was great, but Wyoming can't afford a letdown

If Wyoming doesn't come prepared, a memorable Wednesday night will be tainted by an even worse Saturday hangover.

"The last thing I told them was, 'Fellas, you enjoy it,'" Shyatt said after the win over Colorado State.

"'But the bad news for all of us is it's back to work tomorrow. We have to have a mental edge for the Air Force Academy.'"
