Wyo @ CU

Not impressed with Grabau.....Washington will take his job by the end of the season

Disagree. Grabau play pretty good tonight. He didn't shoot the 3 as well as he usually does but had 9 points 5 assists and only 1 turnover. No way Washington takes his spot. Washington looked like a freshman tonight.

Refs or no refs, Wyoming did not have good shot selection in the last 3-4 minutes which was really their ultimate doom. Some of these guys are Juniors and need to grow in this area (see Grabau, at times Nance etc...).

The worst shot of the night was Nance taking the 3 with a couple minutes left when Wyoming was down 3. Not sure what the hell that was.

Seattle you said Washington played like a freshman and I agree. And that is why I think Adams is going to be a great one.
He played in big games last season as a freshman and didn't look like a freshman.

Washington will be good no doubt, but I think this team needs to run through Adams.

Shyatt has to do a MUCH better job of keeping teams from getting inside. That's gotta be where most of CU points were scored. The Pokes had very few points in the paint it seems. The spread would have been much larger if CU hadn't consistently missed inside early on. Was Nance hurt? He didn't seem to be a force. There just doesn't seem to be the rhythm to this team (yet, maybe) as there was last year. Nobody wants to get in there and kick ass like Washington did last year.

Nance can shoot the 3 pretty well.
He was fairly open, we needed a big shot, and he had the ball. I don't blame him.

The little stutter step ball fake then shooting it did remind me of Leonard last season.

I agree that Adams looked good tonight. He got to the basket quite a bit too bad the refs called him for an offensive foul a couple of times when he scored.

He can shoot the 3 sometimes but he is not someone I want taking a 3 with less than two minutes left in the game when we need a basket down by 3. You either let one of the guards shoot the 3 or you get Nance down low to take a shot closer in.

Agreed, hes got a decent 3 ball but when it's that big of a shot, I don't like him taking it

Some things I noticed from the game:

College basketball is going to be hard to watch this year if the referees continue calling fouls like this. Wyoming hasn't figured out that you will get to the line by driving into your guy/a crowd and throwing up a terrible shot. Colorado did a better job of taking advantage of the new rules tonight. 34 free throws for Colorado vs 15 for Wyoming. That's where this game was won.

Cooke has no feel for the zone defense. He gave up some easy buckets early in the second half by being out of position. The lack of depth in the front court is going to mean a lot of 2-3 zone with Cooke in the middle. I really hope he figures out how to play zone defense soon. The team also struggled to rebound in the zone. That cannot happen.

The shot selection at the end of the game was awful. The players have to make better decisions but the offense doesn't seem to create a lot of open shots. They tried to run plays to get open shots but they clearly didn't work. I don't know if that was poor execution or poor play design but something clearly needs to be fixed.

We had multiple opportunities to win that game we didn't get beat by CU we got beat by ourselves, I hope the players take a lot away from that game because we should have beat them.

Still though, this team will be good. Games like the one tonight help the team grow.
They will be fine and go on a little roll before the Ohio State game.

Agreed. It was actually closer than I thought it would be last night, some solid effort - team & staff.

We will win the next 3 going into Ohio State on 11/25. After that, I see only SMU and Denver that will be challenges.

11 - 2 in OOC is quite possible...although my pre season guess was 10 - 3.

Hankerson and Granderson will be big contributors this year. Hankerson was totally gassed in the second 1/2. He needs some conditioning. On the CU radio post game show, the CU guys commented that the NFL would be interested in Hankerson and Granderson. That kind of strength is going to be very helpful.

The flow of the game was nonexistent. Between all the timeouts and fouls, it was very frustrating game to watch. I hope the refs don't make the game unwatchable. Games may turn into foul shooting contests and an endless whistle fest.

didn't watch but followed on ESPN mobile last night, sounds like CU woke up in 2nd half, but I'm ok with a 5 pt loss, but 58 points we'll sure need more than that this season!!! Time to regroup and see where we go from here, good growing up game tho from the sounds of it

Dave and Kevin said that there were obvious fouls against CU that we're not called...one in particular was one where they heard the CU player slap Nance down under the basket in a missed bucket. I think they mentioned an over and back on CU that was a no-call.

They also mentioned several travels.

I believe Dave and Kevin.
They obviously bleed brown and gold but they don't act like Wyo gets screwed over and make excuses. So when they do say something like "That was a travel if I've ever seen one", or "He walked", then I totally believe them.

Yeah, Dave and Kevin, although big time Wyoming fans, are pretty fair when it comes to stuff like that.

Still, the PAC-12 stream sucks balls.

Another weakness on Wyoming is that we don't block out on an opposing team's shot in a rebounding situation which lets them get some easy put-backs. This is easy to correct and I'm sure Shyatt is all over this.

The new NCAA rules don't like defense unless your bench players are on par with your starters, and not many schools have that kind of depth.

I heard Coach Shyatt comment today that CU's big men gave us fits inside. I can't help but think of how Waddell and Washington formed a beast tandem against every team on our schedule two years ago. If we could get that kind of power underneath to go with the kind of guards we have now we would have something.

We got that big guy from Colorado coming in. 6'10 250lbs and still growing. Plays tough defense and decent offense. Even gave the nation's #1 ranked Center fits in a game they played. Only allowed him 6 points.
