Wyo @ CU

I have watched CU, and they really aren't that good of a team. They have talent for sure, but they won't finish near the top 3 in the PAC IMO. I think this game will be close either direction with either team being able to pull it out. CU is in a similar situation as us, good depth and athleticism but still trying to figure everything out this year.

I watched the CU game against UT Martin and they aren't any better than Wyoming.

They were down early in the game and UT Martin kept it somewhat close into the 2nd half. CU was up about 15 with 5 minutes to go and then hit a couple of late 3's to make the score look worse than it was. Also UT Martin was playing their 2nd straight road game out west which can take its toll also.

Honestly Wyoming and Colorado look about even to me. It will come down to who is the better coach on Wednesday and we know Shyatt has made Boyle look stupid the last two years. I think over all Shyatt is the better coach but I could see this game going either way. We have more depth in the back court and they have more depth in the front court. The thing that worries me more than anything is if Nance were to get into foul trouble. It might be better to go with a 4 guard line up and cause them match up problems on offense and then play a zone and make them out shoot us with jump shots.

Shyatt knows what he is doing though. I'm sure he will have the kids ready to go. Hopefully we don't have to watch Tad throw a temper tantrum like he has done both years. When I see that guy I think of a giant spoiled baby. He likes to cry about everything.

Also Colorado got blown out by SMU and Boise St. in their scrimmages.

I wouldn't take the scrimmages into consideration when debating who is better.

But Seattle, you make a very good point about what happens if Nance gets into foul trouble.

But I think if it is a close game, and Nance gets into foul trouble, Shyatt will have them run with a small lineup.
Put in Washington, Adams, Sobey, Hankerson, and Cooke. Score as much as possible in the 3-4 minutes Nance will have to be out.

Kind of a temporary band-aid. Build a little cushion of a lead as quickly as possible, so when Nance comes back in, we aren't in a hole.

I think we will see a lot of zone in this game to try to keep Nance out of that foul trouble as well as try to make them beat us on the perimeter rather than with their bigs.

I just feel like this WYO team, as Shyatt said, doesn't have an identity yet. It feels like they are still trying to figure out rotations, lineups and don't have a player like LW to lean on while that process plays out. I hope I am wrong but the game just feels like a 10 point CU win.

Nance is the guy to lean on. He just doesn't know it yet.

Nance is a really quality player and has a chance to become that type of guy who can go on the road, put his team on his back, put up a 25-12 night and carry it to victory, but until he actually does that its tough for me to see this team winning right now on the road in a hostile environment.

This is going to be a great measuring stick game for UW. Although I do think the Buffs are overrated right now, they are still a quality basketball team and, outside of Ohio State, the Pokes biggest challenge in the non-conference schedule. Boyle is a great coach and, after losing the last two years to UW, will have his team ready to play. The fans have bought into this CU program and I expect a very challenging atmosphere for the Pokes tonight in Boulder.

The Buffs were picked to finish 3rd in the Pac 12 this season and even received one first place vote. Frankly, I expect the Buffs to finish around 7th place. The Pac 12 is a strong league and I see Arizona, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona State, Cal, and Stanford all finishing in front of the Buffs this season. Because of the strength of schedule bump CU will get from playing in a strong conference, I still think they will be a "bubble team" come tournament selection time, but I don't expect them to receive an at-large bid in the end.

Player to Watch: Spencer Dinwiddie (G, 6'6, 200 lbs, Jr.)
Mr. Dinwiddie is the most talented player on a team full of talent. He can do it all: score, pass, and play defense. He has struggled to start the season, and I expect him to be looking to get on track at home in what should be an electric environment in Boulder. Josh Adams will likely draw the tough task of attempting to shut down Dinwiddie. Although Adams is an outstanding defensive talent, Dinwiddie's extra length and outstanding athleticism give him the advantage. If the Pokes are to leave Boulder with a W, we will have to hope that Dinwiddie's early season struggles continue.

Best Match-Up: Josh Scott (F, 6'10, 245 lbs, So.) vs. Larry Nance Jr.
This should be a great battle down low. Scott was a highly touted recruit for CU and became a significant contributor for CU as a true freshman. He looks even more comfortable this year and has stepped up to lead the team in the early going as Dinwiddie has struggled to find his game. Larry Nance Jr. needs to win this match-up if UW is to win this game.

My Pick: CU by 11
Top to bottom, CU just has too much talent for UW to pull out another win this season. The Buffs will be amped for this game and I expect them to jump out to an early lead that the Pokes can't recover from.

Good write up. I'm looking forward to see how much Hankerson has improved (gotten more comfortable). I think CU could have a problem with our big guards. They were only up 10 with 7 to go against Tenn Martin before making the score look like the game was not as close as it really was.

Tad Boyle is a dick. He literally cried about the refs for weeks the last two times we beat them. He also made a comment 2 years ago that the CU team that was going into conference play would have never lost to a team like Wyoming. Fuck him. I hope we shove it up his ass again.

Fuck yes. I totally agree.

What really bugs me about the CU-Wyo games the past few years is that the fans and Boyle always act like they are better than us.
They act like they beat us.
They talk like they beat us.
They didn't! Wyo wins, and they talk shit.

It's like they forgot about the game and don't realize they lost!

Beaver is getting popular on the fluffs message board. Scroll to about the middle of the page on.

And to you Fluff fans reading this, 2 years we beat you fair and square, but you're own coach and players refuse to aknowledge it. Hint of advice: Lay off the pot.

That's not me but I wish they were freaking out about something I said.
I'm tired of getting WyoNation mad, I want to piss off everyone!

And to you CU fans who think that WE think this is a rivalry...we really don't.
We want to beat you a little bit more than we want to beat other teams, but we don't see this as a real rivalry game.

Maybe on the level of AFA, but there is no way it's anywhere near CSU.
Plus, we both have a common enemy. The sheep.
The enemy of your enemy is your friend.

Dan Dickau is still obviously upset that we made him cry his senior year in the NCAA Tourney.....

Refs or no refs, Wyoming did not have good shot selection in the last 3-4 minutes which was really their ultimate doom. Some of these guys are Juniors and need to grow in this area (see Grabau, at times Nance etc...).

Not impressed with Grabau.....Washington will take his job by the end of the season
Grabau is SO overrated. His defense is average at best and offensively he is a liability. Can't wait for trey to start

One of the big deciding plays was after Nance blocked that shot and was falling out of bounds and the rest of the Pokes just stood there not getting open so Nance threw it away.
Frustrating.

Still though, this team will be good. Games like the one tonight help the team grow.
They will be fine and go on a little roll before the Ohio State game.
