WTF

Are we moving backwards? I really hope not, I trust Shyatt as a coach, and I truly believe he is a good one. However bball programs should be easier to turn around when compared to other sports. I know schroyer left a mess ( thanks Mr. Burman) but a 6th & 8th place finish in conference really isn't going cut it. For comparison our fearless leader fired McClain after a 5th place conference finish. That is a better finish than his replacements were able to muster.

Note: McClain won MWC championships, no other coach has in any sport. I give credit for Shyatt for bringing in some of those players ( josh davis) but lets be honest, Shyatt was only at Wyoming for one year.

Burman needs to go if Shyatt doesn't move this program towards upper finishes in conference. 6th and 8th finishes are Heath schroyer level of success, the program needs to improve.

I love Shyatt but I tend to agree with everything you said. At this stage of the "rebuilding" process id like to see us have a little further progress... We are really going to struggle in conference play. Not good

We're up 64-49 at this point I see no reason to complain, Nance is having another solid game. Granted we could be up by more but I have no complaints after the last 2 losses this is refreshing.

The guys needed a confidence boost...they got it towards the end of the 1st half and haven't really looked back. They guys needed this game. It's waaaay too early to start being so pessimistic about the season.

I'm not going to judge this team until conference play, I would really like to see improvement there.

Wyoming played better today. Hankerson and Granberry got more involved and it helped a lot. Nance dominated again and Grabau got his shot back and Adams did of good job of going to the rim.

Need Hankerson and Granberry to be involved as much as possible as it really gives the team a boost. Hope it continues.

Totally agree with all of the latter comments. We played much better the end of the first half and all of the second half. With Grabau hitting shots, Nance being Nance, Adams being a spark, and the rest at the very least not being a liability, we look like we could compete again. We are a good team when we are hitting on all cylinders but when we miss-fire, we are a terrible team. Hope we see more second half team and less of the first half team. Good win and good god Nance is a stud.

Well put. I still have faith!

I still think we have a shot at a decent run in conference play. The cold, hard truth is that we have lost to every half decent team on our schedule and have not beaten any of them, though.

Nance had 3 blocked shots, and two rebounds, on one play! Obviously MWC teams are going to focus on Nance so we need other players to break down the perimeter defense. SMU, in particular, overplayed UW aggressively on the perimeter ... we need guys to take advantage of that strategy with some v cuts or just taking defenders off the dribble.

Enjoyed Nance's on court banter, calling the blond NC guard with the headband alternately "KC" and "Sunshine" (as in the KC in the sunshine band"). Seriously, though, Nance is emerging as a force. Looking forward to seeing him impose his will more often: we need him too.

For anyone that really doesn't think Nance has stepped out of the shadow he was in he is 100% out now. That OSU game did something for him and he has been getting a double double every game since.

This team barely beat S. Dakota in ot. We struggled with BLACK HILLS ST!!! Struggled with 4-7 Jackson St. And a Denver team we should've taken care of beat us. We'll be lucky to be a seventh place finish this year. Maybe another 21-15 type year... 20 wins is great, right? Not when we suck in conference and we are still losing almost as many games as we did under Schroyer.

Schroyers last two years = 6-26, 20-42 avg RPI = 246(technically some of those occurred after he was fired)

Shyatt's first two year= 10-20, 41-26, avg RPI = 78

If you don't think that is improvement, I don't know what to say.

Strike three

No improvement in conference finishes compared to schroyer. That has to be a concern of any fan.

There is improvement, it's just modest. I think the RPI tells the tale though. The MWC was very tough the last two years compared to historical averages. The opposite is true in FB. We have to recognize that Shyatt's teams were quite a bit better than Heath's and that DC's 2013 team was worse than anything Joe Glenn did. SOS tells the tale.

I am probably one of the more negative posters I suppose, but objectively Shyatt has improved the program. My main concern is that we don't appear to have a high ceiling under Shyatt because of the level of athlete that is being recruited. I see us stuck in a CBI/CIT kind of rut, but that is a dramatic improvement from being in the bottom third of D-1 like we were under Schroyer.

To be fair the MW was a grossly overrated conference last year( see tournament results) so RPI can be misleading. I'm not sure the conference was stronger last year, but even if it was Shyatt didn't deliver an above average team. The BYU and Utah teams schroyer played were decent. The Provo douches had the NCAA player of the year during the schroyer years. At this poit Shyatt hasn't done much, and he seems to be unable to recruit a scoring guard (a Ewing, Jones, or Richardson).

As far as football I don't disagree that Glenn had a harder schedule, but it doesn't matter. DC and Glenn both didn't deliver, and had nearly identical results. Again, both won bowl games with the help of players they didn't recruit. I really liked Glenn as a coach but it is obvious that DC brought in Better skill players. Glenn benefitted from a legit superstar in Bouknight.

Josh Adams, a guard scored 16 points tonight...
Can't recruit a scoring guard my ass. Do you even pay attention?
Riley Grabau is one of the best 3 point shooters in the country.

Agree on DC and Glenn. I do think the 2013 team was the worst of the 11 years between the two, but the overall results were equally poor. Remember that kansascowboy's whole point is that DC got a raw deal and that Shyatt is not being held to the same standard. I don't think DC got a raw deal and I don't believe you can equate a coach struggling (but improving in relation to his predecessor) early in his 3rd year to a coach failing in his 5th. If Shyatt is failing as spectacularly as DC in his 5th year he will probably be fired too.

In terms of Schroyer vs Shyatt, agree with good BYU teams, disagree with good Utah teams. Remember Boylen was fired the same years as Schroyer as they had a losing record in each of those two years I referenced. The flip side is the improved teams at CSU, UNM, and BSU that Shyatt had to face.
