Will Wyoming over-commit for 2017 if both Hunter and Parker chose UW?

Man if we could just trash SDSU on the board for 2 games...I might cry...how come our cry smilie doesn't work?ahahah

It could be a beautiful thing dude. I'd love to see a Wyoming team in the conference drivers seat and with national recognition again. I mean two of these signings could transform us into another realm that hasn't really existed. I know the sweet 16 team was big time. I think a lineup close to what we had up there would be a team on that level or greater. Our national championship team was so far out of the modern era. Still have to have love for em though. Bailey/Davis team was so much fun to watch too, man that team had fucking grit to it. Those old teams had tough roads through Utah and BYU too. Can we schedule one of them again when we're loaded?? Make em come to the AA.

Hey another thought I had about Hunter. What if they can get him that scholarship for school frosh year and Wyoming offers him a full ride the next year when schollies free up? I like our what if game so I'm throwing that out there too. I mean I don't believe any of it would happen but...that's my final what if on it. That would put this team all over the crazy for real. We'd have to pinch ourselves.

Sweet. I guess that pushes this conversation right to the forefront. Now if we can get Parker to come home, we're looking at making every basketball team in our league into fluffers for NCAA tournament seeds. :D

It would be really nice to add Parker to the mix.

It seems like Bey is outta the mix now (would've loved to have him too). We have too many bigs. We need a guard desperately to make it all flow. The great news is UW doesn't have to commit anyone but a total standout guard now. They can just wait to see what Parker is gonna do and live with it. If they have to wait till 2018 to get the right guy they can. Still Parker would linchpin us as top dawgs in the MWC if he joins. The most hyped up and dangerous squad since Dembo's unit back in the day.

No, but it's hard to expect us to sign another big when our post has a ton of bodies in it, and our guard line is borderline thin. We're at our allotment of scholarships. The only thing that makes us go over at this point is the "right fit". That's going to be a long guard, I'm guessing.

Gotcha. This makes a lot of sense.

You have to think that Parker Stewart is looking at this piece of Wyoming news with a bit of interest. He can come right into Wyoming and thump people consistently now.

There's a stacked roster just sitting in Laramie, waiting for the 6'5" guard to give it that final push.

Got the answer from this article:
http://www.wyosports.net/university...cle_bc6845f0-74ac-11e6-b542-e396254435ef.html
Thompson won’t be on an athletic scholarship next fall because first-year Cowboys coach Allen Edwards is holding on to his final scholarship while trying to recruit a wing player.

Thompson – who figures to be a power forward with perimeter skills – will attend UW on a Hathaway Scholarship before being put on an athletic scholarship in 2018.

“I won’t be considered an NCAA Division I signee, but that doesn’t affect where my heart and mind want to go,” Thompson said. “I’d rather be happy and pay a little bit of money for one year than potentially be miserable and not pay anything.”

That is the most unselfish thing I have ever heard of a recruit doing. This is going to pay huge dividends for Hunter and UW Basketball. This is how championship teams are built.

Yep. That's a massive "team player" moment that will help us for years to come:

1. Allows us to recruit another guy this year.
2. Evens out the recruiting classes.
3. He gets to take a year off to get bigger, stronger, and faster.
4. He'll start playing the year after we lose Dalton and Barnes and have more need in the post.

You couldn't start your Wyoming career any better than that. He's sacrificing his personal comfort for the good of everyone involved. That's a noble move and a good move for Hunter. Imagine having to face him his freshman year. He'll be newcomer of the year material when he finally plays, and then we get him a full four seasons after that.

Thanks Hunter and Thompson family.

is there a rule that says he can't play while on hathaway?

(i'm genuinely curious, that wasn't meant to come across snarky)

I figured we had a pretty good chance with Hunter this weekend. It still feels great to see him commit, especially the way he's doing it to help the team.

Now we'll see who we can land with that other schollie.

So far, the new staff has recruited as many 4 star guys as they have 2 and 3 star guys combined. They've signed Buddha, the two Hunters, and Louis Adams.

It's pretty exciting to think that we have another schollie open, a couple more 4 stars on our list, and a 50 percent success rate of landing 4 star recruits for the new staff.

Bring on Parker Stewart!!

You wouldn't think so. It seems reasonable to assume he'd just be treated like any other walk-on. But he may prefer to not use any of his eligibility while not on scholarship.

But the NCAA might have some strange rules in place. I remember Johnny Manziel wanted to give up his scholarship his last year at A&M to let them sign someone else and the NCAA said no. Obviously this is a different scenario, but silly rules may still apply.

I'm pretty sure that's what a greyshirt is. He pays his first years tuition and waits until a schollie opens the following season. I'm guessing he gets the stipend with the Hathaway, so he should have plenty of money.

I'm sure he can practice with the team and all that, but he won't play. It will be like a redshirt year, or at least that's how I understand it.

I thought grey shirting was delaying your enrollment at the university so your eligibility is delayed by one year.

I pretty much have the same understanding. I can't see him sitting around for a year without being on the roster or going to school.

I think Hunter Thompson will join the team as a walk-on in 2017, most likely redshirt, and be put on scholarship with 4 (or possibly 3 if he doesn't redshirt) years of eligibility starting in 2018.
