Will DC leave?

After this season success will DC do as many coaches have done before, leave Wyoming as a stepping stone for a bigger school?

I've already read a few rumors, but nothing legit. When a school has an opening, everyone thinks their wish lists are realistic. I'd wait until December before really paying attention to leaving rumors, but surely there's a chance CDC leaves.

If I were to guess, it would be that he has a dream job, and if that job were to open up he would take it. His goal has been to be conference champion. He hasn't reached that goal yet.

What has it been now, 20 years since a coach has used Wyoming as a stepping stone, but yet everyone is worried about it? I think your more likely to end your head coaching career here (fired) than getting picked off by a bigger school.

I hope you are right. Even though his personality has not always been the best, he has done some fantastic things with the team and school. For instance paying for the band to go to CSU on the 3rd out of his own pocket.

Well, even if he were to leave, the cupboards would be full. We have alot of talent brewing that has been on the sideline. I'd speculate a change in defense this off season. The goal has been to build a football program using the Boise model - promote within. Worst case, we end up with Greg Brandon as the Head Coach.

I'm just speculating though, its not like I know anything or have a crystal ball to look into. I'm not in the least bit worried about him leaving after year #3.

No matter what he has definetley done a great job with recruiting so we have a lot to look forward to plus some great looking possibilities for this years recruiting class.

Do you know what the funnest part of this season (from a message board posting point of view) has been? Watching J-Rod really enjoy us getting beat by USU, telling us how bad our team is, how it is the worst team Wyoming has put together yet, and now we are bowl eligible. Don't worry too much about him, he's just trying to inflict some misery on the fan base and get everyone riled up.

Many coaches, I don't think so. No stepping stone job here

As long as CDC continues to have success, and make less than $1 million annually (875K), he's prone to being poached. With that said, this years poaching field is weak. UCLA...maybe? Rick's doing a good job as of late to keep his job. Arizona? Speaking of stepping stone schools.....North Carolina? No......And who in their right mind would go to Penn State? Its not like any major powers are looking.

Now if Gary Pinkel is let go at Missouri for his DUI.....that's a different story. But for now, nothing to worry about.

Rumor is the North Carolina jobs is Skip Holtz's job of he wants it.
And Gus Mulzahn has apparently had contact. They're all "done deals" according to some. Its rumor season, few turn out to be true.

Holtz would be a surprise though. South Florida to UNC? If he's gonna move for a 2nd time in 3 years, he should wait for a big-named school to come and get him. Maybe Tennessee or someone like that......

Nothing like the time honored Wyoming tradition of the second we have the slightest bit of success to start worrying about the coach leaving. Jesus Christ man enjoy the season so far.

Most coaches with success at Wyoming have left. Dana Dimel, Joe Tiller, Dennis Erikson.
It's been 13 years. And it was coaches with success, Lately, we haven't had coaches with success.
Go figure why everyone is worried.

I think the key to the last 15+ years is exactly that Coach Tiller was run off in the face of a 10-win season by a new AD (Lee Moon) who refused to talk about an extension earlier. I also remember comments in the student section during the course of that season that, despite what we were watching on the field, Coach Tiller still only had a .500 record in his career at Wyoming.

The general point is that we were not willing to try to keep someone who made it work in Laramie until it was too late.

That year also demonstrated that Wyoming fans will not consistently attend games (except the CSU game) for a Top 20 team. It also proved that 10 wins and a Top 25 finish at Wyoming still do not necessarilly get us into a bowl game if there are other options available to the bowl committees.

Simply put, we need to win out, Boise State and the BCS be %$*@!

Fuck me.

Yes, he will leave. Every coach leaves.

We should be Wyoming fans first. Player fans second. That's it.

I'd be shocked if Brandon is next head coach. Better do some background checking.

If DC is smart, and we can all assume he's very smart, he'll eventually parlay this job into something bigger and better. I've always assumed he'll be gone for greener pastures at some point. I assumed that on the first day he had the Wyoming job.

Unlike Dana Dimel, who took the Houston job, (I believe, because he knew he was about to hit a wall with his recruiting and perhaps a little incident involving a pool table), I think DC is going for a much, much bigger job. In the relm of upper tier BCS-type job. In order to do that, he needs to be much more successful at UW then he currently is. He needs a conference championship and his team finishing in the top 10, then he'll be able to command a top tier job.

Which means it's all good for us.

Personally, I'm relaxing and enjoying the ride. :twocents:

Agreed. DC has to show more than just finishing 6-6 and 8-4. An OVERALL record in his three years is

17-19...possibly 18-19 if we can win our bowl game this year. People do not headhunt coaches that are sub .500

People need to back away from the cliff and know that if he goes it will more than likely be more of a lateral move. Nothing better is coming for a below .500 coach as of now.

With that being said, I am optimistic what next year brings. We lose some core guys on D, however with BSU and TCU gone, Lindley (and possibly Hillman) gone for SDSU, and the new teams coming into the conf being mediocre....the future is looking up for the Pokes.

on espn rumors, wazzou might be looking at DC along with dennis erickson if he leaves asu, and also Navy's coach.

i think he will stay till makes national noise and attracts better schools than wazzou, altho he is a northwestern us kinda guy
