Wildcat Offense

You all think we will see the Wildcat this season?

Didn't we run it with Stratton a few years ago? I think we have other "candidates" that could run it as well...and would really like to see LB Mark Nzeocha get a shot. As well as Wacha, and Huff!

Honestly, was never really a fan of the Wildcat offense. If it works, go for it, just have never been a fan.

Slightly related, there's a huge glitch in NCAA 14 Road to Glory. If you're a QB and you get put in the Wildcat formation, there's not a damn hting you can do to hike the ball. In a game, you either call timeout or you let the clock hit 0:00 and you take a 5 yard penalty. In practice though, you have to exit the practice because you're stuck for eternity otherwise.

No, I don't think we will see it. We have no reason as our offense moves the ball effectively as it is.

It made sense with Stratton. He was a good HS QB with experience running the option. But you want to put the ball in the hands of 3 defensive players? That could only end badly. If for some reason we did see the wildcat, it would be....Stratton running it. I think the most likely scenario is that we see Stratton take off with the ball on a fake field goal.

I think it adds to the playbook - being primarily my thought. And as far as defensive players - you need to look at the 3 that I mentioned individually (it isn't like we are snapping the ball to a guy with no skills):

Huff - great hands, PR / KR, played O in HS, etc.
Wacha - former Offensive MVP in HS, played first base in HS, and is lightening fast & tough
Nzeocha - as DC has put it, the most athletic kid he has ever coached

I think the only reason we ran it last year was because Brett got hurt. It stopped him from getting hit on obvious running situations, and our running backs weren't exatly great. Probably won't see it this year since our running backs seem much improved, and we now use the zone read with an option bubble screen pass (which is an awesome addition by the way).\

Look at the td Jalen Claiborne scored against Air Force for an example of the zone read bubble pass option.

OH...and anyone remember Eric Weddle at Utard?

yeah the NFL has shyed away from it and it really didn't help us that much, what we got isn't broke so i say don't fix it unless it's ineffective. Now if we had some Pistol formation plays I think I'd like that a bit.

We do. We've used some read option and play action from the pistol several times a game this year.

Once again, I don't think any of those three have the experience handling the ball at the QB position. With Stratton, there is at least a minimal threat that he would throw the ball. Stratton was a 4 year starter at QB in HS. I could see Wacha line up at the RB position (ala Ghaali Muhammad).
