FINALLY a valid response. Martinez is a great fit for the system Nebraska has been running. I'm concerned that they're trying to change to more of a pass happy offense, but I'm sure they won't do anything that he won't be able to handle. I would argue that his 62% completion percentage is a result of having a run heavy offense and catching teams off guard with the pass.trouble said:WYO1016 said:Note that Chad Smith doesn't hide behind a screen name. And our Stadium isn't called War Memorial. So hopefully your team doesn't show up at the wrong stadium on saturday! :thumb:
A good Qb is subjective to the offense they are playing.
For the Zone read/spread offense that Nebraska runs, TM is a great QB. For the pro style attack that a team such as USC runs, TM would be a bad QB.
Taylor Martinez is not Peyton Manning, and nobody claims he is, but he runs our offense efficiently and makes many of the throws that he attempts. His throwing motion has gotten significantly better, he no longer throws off his back foot and is much much better at reading defenses than he was in 2011. My issue with this article is that he points out a bunch of things that were absolutely correct in 2011, but fairly off base in 2012.
As a side note, Brett Smith is not Peyton Manning either. I went back and watched some highlights and he has happy feet like Martinez used to, and has a very short arm delivery style which is just as weird as Martinez. Ive said before in another post that BS is the better pro prospect obviously but Martinez is not a terrible QB.

I also agree that Brett Smith is no Peyton Manning. Far from it. However, he does have better passing skills than Martinez. I don't think either QB would have been a good fit for the other team when they were being recruited.
Fair enough. All every team hopes for is a QB that can get the job done. We'd all love to have someone that throws like Aaron Rodgers and runs like Mike Vick, but I haven't seen that guy yet. Like I said in my previous post, Martinez is a good fit for your team. As long as he is making the throws that he needs to make you guys will win games.trouble said:if you watched some of the comeback wins last year, teams knew we had to pass to get back into the game and knew it was coming. He still was completing passes and brought us back. Taylor is a better passer than a lot of folks here think, and while he is not a great thrower, he is very competent. Sure, our passing games at times relies upon the play action and catching teams off guard, but not always.

I dont understand this, so if you grow up all your life as a fan of one school then decide to go to a different school for whatever reason(Program, scholarship, etc) then that means you automatically drop any previous affiliation with that previous school/team and have to be a fan of that new school?

Wow. That's insane.

I agree.
I'm from Wyoming but ended up going to a NAIA college in Oklahoma (East Central) but I still root for Wyoming. Loyalty is a very BIG thing to me.
Lots and lots of people have a "hometown" team they root for outside of their current school/alma mater. All I'm saying is, if your two teams happen to actually face each other (which, luckily for you, will soon be happening less frequently), I can't imagine not rooting for your school. College is such a formative time in a person's life, and, at most major football schools, game days are such an enjoyable part of the experience. If you're actually rooting against your own school, I'm guessing either you didn't enjoy college that much, or you don't see the point in rooting for CU because Texas is so much better.

This is the one thing we can agree on. In terms of alma matter vs "first love", Ill go with the latter. My choice of college wasn't for the athletics and as I may wish for them to do well in all sports, they will not be rooted for over a school I have grown up watching and loving my entire life.
Just because you root for one team over your alma matter doesn't make you a traitor, it doesn't make you a terrible person, it just makes you true passionate fan of that team you grew up loving.
