Unfortunately, we are probably not making a change until summer of 2027 when I suspect he will not be offered a new contract. That almost guarantees we have a 4th year of Sawvel leading the football program.

There is part of me that hopes President Reeves tells Burman UW will pay him through June 2027, but that his services are no longer needed and we will replacing him before his contract is actually up. A new AD almost certainly guarantees a new football coach in 2027. If not, then there are very few good AD candidates that would be willing to take the job knowing they are hamstrung with Sawvel for their first year on the job.

I foresee a ‘retirement’ announcement following this football season and then a university announcement that it is launching a search committee for Burman’s successor with Burman staying in the job until June 30 (basically the Ed Seidel treatment - not technically fired).

So the new AD starts July 1 with Sawvel still leading the football program but will have the ability to hire a new coach following the 2027 football season with a lower $1.25 million buyout. Wouldn’t even be surprised if we see Sawvel start the 2027 season but let go early with someone else on staff named as interim coach until the new AD completes the hiring process sometime early December 2027.

That all fits. Another lost half-decade. Yay...Wyoming!

Sounds about right.

My biggest fear is that Sawvel goes something like 8-4 this year and everybody is tricked into believing he has finally ‘figured it out’ and turned things around. In reality, the schedule is so damn bad this year that even a pretty bad football team could conceivably win 8 games.

That is a concern as much as I want to see this team succeed that a bad team could win a lot of games against other bad teams.

I do think the President is not going to allow any sort of extension or football coaching hire until the new AD is in place so it could be immaterial.

The serious fans definitely do, but i think UW will put some spin on it and do a half time type event and name a facility after him. HIs entire tenure has had that type of "spin" and his exit will be similar.
Very little chance a facility is named after Burman. That's basically reserved for big time donors and Burman is not that.

I do suspect that it will be framed as a retirement and not as a choice to not renew his contract. That's fine. He was probably ready to retire anyways.

Spot on, I am thinking that William Hung could go 8 & 4 at Wyoming this season.

OMG, can you imagine them naming a facility or something at Wyoming after him? That just stinks of mediocrity and poor leadership. If they "have to" - maybe they can name the lawn mower storage shed in the soccer complex after him.

There’s a port-a-pot looking for an official name out there somewhere.
