Unfortunately, we are probably not making a change until summer of 2027 when I suspect he will not be offered a new contract. That almost guarantees we have a 4th year of Sawvel leading the football program.
There is part of me that hopes President Reeves tells Burman UW will pay him through June 2027, but that his services are no longer needed and we will replacing him before his contract is actually up. A new AD almost certainly guarantees a new football coach in 2027. If not, then there are very few good AD candidates that would be willing to take the job knowing they are hamstrung with Sawvel for their first year on the job.
That all fits. Another lost half-decade. Yay...Wyoming!I foresee a ‘retirement’ announcement following this football season and then a university announcement that it is launching a search committee for Burman’s successor with Burman staying in the job until June 30 (basically the Ed Seidel treatment - not technically fired).
So the new AD starts July 1 with Sawvel still leading the football program but will have the ability to hire a new coach following the 2027 football season with a lower $1.25 million buyout. Wouldn’t even be surprised if we see Sawvel start the 2027 season but let go early with someone else on staff named as interim coach until the new AD completes the hiring process sometime early December 2027.
Sounds about right.I foresee a ‘retirement’ announcement following this football season and then a university announcement that it is launching a search committee for Burman’s successor with Burman staying in the job until June 30 (basically the Ed Seidel treatment - not technically fired).

It’s depressing. But I’m at least as hopeful with the new President as I’ve been in a long time for the direction of the University and athletics. That all fits. Another lost half-decade. Yay...Wyoming!
That is a concern as much as I want to see this team succeed that a bad team could win a lot of games against other bad teams.Sounds about right.
My biggest fear is that Sawvel goes something like 8-4 this year and everybody is tricked into believing he has finally ‘figured it out’ and turned things around. In reality, the schedule is so damn bad this year that even a pretty bad football team could conceivably win 8 games.
