Illinois - A Big 10 road game with new Cowboy players who hadn't played a game together. Tulsa - Beaten statistically, but the Cowboys continued to play, and didn't quit. UNC - Will the Cowboys take the momentum and go with it, or will they have a big let-down and lose? Air Force - If the Cowboys beat the cheating birds, I'll be a believer. BYU - They've had our number for way too long. BS State - They appear to be really beatable. Can we finally do it? The sheep - We've had their number. Will it continue? Their disloyal new coach deserves to have his career end in fart collins. Two games already played ... It's gonna go fast.

This team is going to be interesting to watch the next few weeks. Hope is returning to the high planes. Lots to shore up but there were flashes of pretty good (and bad) football. If the good stuff gets more consistent, this squad could be decent in the MWC.

Here's my take on the season so far.
1. Illinois game. We have a young team. That game just gives me nightmares thinking back on it.
- Receiving corps couldn't get open. Illinois' secondary was much better than Tulsa's.
- I'm just going to leave it here. I don't want to open up any wounds that are healing or cause myself PTSD thinking about it.
2. Tulsa game. I like it when we can score TD's on defense and special teams. I don't expect it though. I hope the offense caught some momentum from this game, can build some confidence against UNC, and we can pull the DNR (Do-not-resuscitate) order off of them.
- I liked that we could pass a bit this game. Maybe this will build some confidence in the coaching staff to balance the offense. It's a young team - certainly, and I think we have seen the seeds planted.
- I know Tulsa is a spread offense, and toss the ball around quite a bit. I would have thought our secondary would have slowed that down a bit. That leaves a bunch of ??? for me. Maybe the UNC game will build some confidence there.
- 5/15 on 3rd down conversions - not great, but at least we converted one. I was considering taking a bet on offensive TD's and 3rd down conversions. Glad I didn't.
- 55 yard field goal. That is just awesome.
- The Swen fumble was bad. I hope they play him a bit less this week and let him heal up a bit from the bruised ribs. He is a hell of a runner, and we need him healthy.
- Blocked punt + score. Can't ever count on these but that just shows spirit.
- Two defensive TD's. We should never expect the defense to score, but it is the icing on the cake when special teams + defense score TD's.
- The missed short field goal with a few seconds at the end of regulation. It happens.
- TOP: 90 second differential. 30:45 Tulsa / 29:15 Wyo. That definitely has to improve with the way this team is architected.
- Pass protection. I really wasn't expecting this out of the offensive line this year. As long as those receivers can get open, we should be able to produce a passing game.
- We stopped the run. Tulsa ran for 61 yards on 32 attempts. 1.9 yards on average
- We didn't do well on stopping the pass. Tulsa 30-52 for 460 yards. That's 8.8 yards on average.
3. UNC game - I expect a win here - and it should be by a couple of scores. Reality? I'm not sure
I'm not sure what to think going forward. My hope is it truly is a young team, and they are gaining confidence each week, and the coaches are gaining confidence and finding strengths and weaknesses, and maybe they will optimize for them.
My fear is the transfer portal gutted us last year and we are on a slow side on the downhill slope. Any success we have this year will gut us again.
And lastly, whoever is doing the death threats and such to Peasly - just stop. It is just a sport/game. Get your emotions in check.

Let's be honest- it took us two OT's at home to beat what is likely a middling AAC team.
There WERE some brights signs- Peasley's passing moved from abysmal to above-average, McNeely played tough and showed heart, good TE play, good OL play, James had some nice catches, Hoyland sure can kick (koinging one off the top of the upright is pretty fluky), and defensive and special teams scores are nice... but... I'm not convinced we will be competitive in conference play. Everyone is looking at SDSU and Boise losses to likely decent PAC-12 teams, but I think either of them would TCB against us right now. Our secondary is very suspect and we are definitely inconsistent at the line of scrimmage on defense. Swen contributed, but didn't excel like he actually did against that big Illini d-line. 98 yards against Illinois in Champaign but less than 45 against Tulsa in Laradise? I think he's still pretty sore in the mid-section. Bruised ribs can make walking difficult, let alone running the ball in FBS Football. Still, I see overall improvement from our Week "0" game. The chemistry that was so talked about definitely manifested in this game.
Next REAL test will be against AFA in two weeks, although a low-scoring game against a bad UNC FCS team wouldn't exactly bode well. Hopefully this team can't abide anything less than a 45+ point win over the Bears.

Did not see the game live. I was in the back country during the game and had enough service to see that Tulsa had scored 37... It took a while for the Wyoming score to load.... Was very surprised to see 40!

The big difference from the first game to me is that Peasley looked quite a bit better. We still struggle to make the Running game very dynamic but at least it opened up some nice passing opportunities. Let's hope that in conference play, the defense can be optimistic because they don't look like that will be holding many teams down.
Still on track for the five wins I predicted before the season started.
