Detmer: BYU's game plan to stay the same with Mangum at QB (Deseret News)

“That’s what we do. We try to run the ball. I don’t think (Wyoming is) any different from any other team we’ve played,” Detmer said. “They’ve played teams that are committed to running the ball (like New Mexico and San Diego State). Some of those (rushing defense) numbers are probably skewed compared to other teams. If they’re in the box, we’ll throw it. You’re always in the mode of taking what the defense gives you.”

Man, win 1 national title in football and leave to go on an independent status and keep the holier than thou attitude, BYU isn't relevant in ANYTHING, GET OVER YOURSELVES, news flash the Pac 12 still ain't calling

I am having a riot with many of the fans on Twitter. Surprisingly cordial and good banter back and forth. It is all mindset. I've embraced it and it has been enjoyable. Dino came out guns a blazing on many of the fans on twitter and it was embarrassing. Do I like BYU? of course not. But I am trying a different approach of taking the criticism and slinging some good fun back and it has been fine. The anger has been tempered by both sides.

I liked that too. I really hope their players come in as dismissive as their fan base.

Definitely hope so too. And I hope our team, and especially our lines see this attitude and dismissal from their opponent. I want to win in the trenches on every down. I want to see intensity and a new-found hatred from this team. A hatred that drives them to focus, push, and execute with clinical precision.

Unfortunately, many of the younger fans don't understand the history of these two schools. That said, many of the coaches DO. Sitake, Detmer, Mahe. They have all played in Laramie. They understand. I am looking forward to next week.

BS, they didn't win shit! That MNC is the reason why college football has been tweaking the system forever. The NCAA knew they could never let that farce happen again.

Haven't Bohl and staff brought in some former players and coaches to fill the players in?

As of the other day when bohl did his press conference they did not have anyone come in yet.

Think USU would mind if Jovon popped over to fill the current Pokes team in on some things? Or how about asking Tiller or Roach to do so?

BYU football analysis: How the Cougars match up with Wyoming's offense (Deseret News)

PROVO — The BYU defense will be facing one of its toughest challenges of the season when the Cougars take on Wyoming in the Poinsettia Bowl next week.

The Cowboys enter the bowl season averaging 37.1 points per game, tied for 23rd in the country, and 439.2 yards a contest. Those numbers are among the best from a BYU opponent this year, with only Toledo proving to be a more explosive offense overall.

Final thought

This will be one of the toughest challenges for the Cougars' defense this season. BYU's defensive front has shown throughout the year it can shut down powerful running attacks, and its secondary has strong safeties that have combined with young corners who are improving. This, however, is the best combination of individual rushers, passers and receivers the Cougars will face in a single game, and that could prove difficult to stop all the weapons.

Are these morons serious? Gramps wouldn't start on half of the teams in the MWC.... good lord. I don't doubt he's good but the best we've seen? Get outta here.

Yes the qb that wasn't good enough to start all season will be the best passer we have seen.

Dick Harmon: In Wyoming's Bohl, BYU faces leadership from Nebraska's Tom Osborne coaching tree (Deseret News)

"The program that coach Bohl has built here has really just completely changed the culture around here," senior center Chase Roullier said earlier this week. "He came into Wyoming with a completely different mindset about this team and it's truly just shaped the way this team thinks and how we play."

Bohl said Wyoming “securing” his job status, not only gave the program stability but also showed a commitment by the university to him, his staff and his players. “That is important not only for our players, but our recruiting.

Don't get me wrong he's a talented qb but they don't have one receiver with 100 yards catching in a game if I'm not mistaken

BYU football: Algie Brown enjoyed senior season despite bone bruise, position change (Salt Lake Tribune)

Here are a few more of Sitake's comments from Tuesday:

On his memories of BYU-Wyoming games when he played:

"Oh, I loved it. I liked going up to Laramie and playing them because they have fans who are passionate and love their program. I think it gets overshadowed some times, with the elevation, because it does hit you. I am glad the game is in San Diego. I just like going to different places where fans love their team. It is a cool experience as a college football player. So, our guys don't know know much about the rivalry and being in the same conference with Wyoming in the past. But we've watched them play and we saw them beat Boise and we saw them in the championship game against San Diego State in Laramie, which was a huge accomplishment by coach Bohl and his staff and program. We know they are a great team and we are looking forward to playing them."

Poinsettia Bowl a chance to rekindle old WAC rivalry for Cougars, Pokes (ksl.com)

Current defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki would sneak into then-Cougar Stadium as a high school student at Timpview High in Provo, and the sheer size of the line stood out about Wyoming.

“I would be standing in the tunnels and watching the teams go by,” Tuiaki said. “I remember thinking, ‘these kids are humongous.’ I remember them being really big.

“They’ve always been scrappy. This team is the same; really scrappy, well-coached, and they played really hard.”
