What I want

I will be the first to admit I was upset with the New Mexico win. Wyoming should have never let New Mexico back in to the game. I am just upset with how our team plays on defense. They are showing no fight, they don't punish the player with the ball. I grew up a die hard Cowboy fan and was Yellowstone fan of year when I was 6, I have seen great Cowboy teams, and terrible ones. Breske defense was a top 10 defense one year against better talent, and his defense was on the field just as long as this defense is because our offense was god awful. I want our team to show some fight, shove some people make them know you are there. When the ball carrier has the ball blast him and don't try and strip it, Darren White is terrible at that, drive your shoulder into him.
The last time we played Utah at the War in 2008 I Was there. Utah fans are the worst, I was sitting with my grandpa and my mom and some Utah fans directly behind us picked a fight and I remember beating one guy bad and me getting escorted out oft he game. What my point here is the fans should not show more fight than the team, I am not asking for a top 10 defense, but I Am asking for one that hits and makes tackles. the fumbles will come, but make sure he doesn't get 8 yards in the process. This is just my thoughts. I am Looking forward to the game this weekend, and to the Fresno game my boss is a huge Fresno fan so I got on his computer and pulled up the goal line stand for him in 2009.

Well said. That sums up the way I feel exactly. I like DC. I love the offense. I don't want to see us change coaches.

On defense, I just want to see us hit people, wrap up, tackle the player(not the ball) and minimize the bleeding in the run game. I think we have some great young bodies on the defensive line that just need time to develop. Yarborough is already there but guys like Olive and some of the young defensive linemen need some time in the system before our front line issue is solved. Until then, I just want to see our guys tackle. Wrap up, hit hard, and stick to the football fundamentals and the fumbles will come. More then anything, I want to see us stop attempting to strip the ball at the expense of tackling.

Our seeming inability to play four quarters of football on both sides, especially coming out of the locker room at halftime, doesn't bother you guys?

I hate third quarters. I don't know what it is or why we have issues but our third quarters are BAD and would love to see adjustments. But overall winning is what matters.

Wouldn't you say the third quarter is kind of key to overall winning?

i would say the key is to score more points than the other team

And playing four quarters of football wouldn't make that a bit more consistent?

We won Saturday didn't we? Not saying we win all the time but we did this last game.

Wins are the only thing that matters really - whether they are ugly or not, a win, is a win.

That said, the halftime porn & pizza party reared it's ugly head once again Saturday. And it almost cost us a game we should have had well in hand. And at times, it has cost us games we should have won...snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Just because something worked in the first half, doesn't mean it is going to work in the second half - as most of the teams we play will make adjustments. And we seem to just keep doing what we did.

Oh well. :twocents:

Think of it this way: we are very similar to Texas A&M. We have our own (better) version of Manziel in Smith. Our offense is just as productive passing and probably better rushing. Texas A&Ms D has struggled ALL year. Notice all of their close hard fought shootout wins and shootout loss. Yet their fans are not calling for coaches heads and their not complaining nearly as bad as a lot of our fans have been about the D issues.Their having fun and enjoying the success of their team, unlike our fans.

No that bothers me, as does the guaranteed game every season where we just don't show up focused. This year Ringolsby called it with the Texas State game. Everyone knew it was a trap game. The media covered it as a trap game two weeks before we even played it. Still we showed up without focus, laid an egg and lost to a team that had no business being on the same field as us.

I try to keep it in perspective though. There aren't many teams that play 13 games a year, four quarters a game, all season long. The ones that do end up with the national championship trophy.

We're still a young team. We're still building our program. These are lessons you have to learn along the way to being a conference champion contender. I feel relatively confident that at some point we'll start playing four quarters and rarely overlook an opponent. I think those things will change.

What I don't feel confident is our ability to tackle or our ability to make progress in our ability to tackle. We just don't seem to getting better at that and I'm not confident that our tackling is going to change.

Didn't Wyoming hold NM to over a hundred yards BELOW their rushing average? I said it before and I will say it again....the strength of this team is in their explosive offense. Who gives a rip what the defense does as long as we out score our opponent. In case you missed it let me outline football 101 for a few of you.......if you score more points than the opposing team you WIN! That is why they have that big thing called a score board. No where up there do they keep track of turnover ratio, yards given up in the red zone, rush defense ranking etc....but they do keep track of how many points you score! so get over the defense thing and just keep hoping that our offense can outscore everyone! Because if you score more points that the teams you are playing you get a bowl bid! WE need more of an Oregon philosophy on this board, fastbreak on the grass baby!

Do you think holding UNM 100 yards under their season average is a measuring stick for the strength of your football team? UNM sucks ass, has sucked ass for years, and isn't getting much better. Idaho sucks. Northern Colorado sucks. Air Force sucks. Those are the four wins we have this year.

We have a moral victory against Nebraska. We have a terrible loss against Texas State.

The back end of our schedule starts with the Border War. We have a road trip to SJSU, a home game against undefeated Fresno, a road trip to Utah State, and a road trip to Boise(coming off a bye week). The only game I feel like we'll for sure win is Hawaii. The rest of those opponents are better then the four teams we've beat this year and one of them we've lost to.

Wins are the only thing that matters, but don't expect everyone to jump on the bandwagon because we beat UNM, AFA, Idaho, and Northern Colorado.

The team has problems. There's no way around that.

So they are shit, we still held the #1 rusging team in the country 100 yards below average.

They may "suck ass" as you put it, but they are the leading rushing team in America! or at least they were.....now thanks to Wyoming they are not! You see people get way to hung up on the intangibles. Who cares? we won and as long as we continue to win I am happy. Quit trying to fix something that isn't broke, or at least it isn't broke all of the time! LOL Our team is not about defense. The system that we play is going to give up some points so get over it! We will outscore most opponents. When we can't then there is a problem but until then lets enjoy it and "Powder River let er BUCK!"

It is kinda like a basketball team that averages 90 points a game but gives up 70! Who cares? and I may ask what type of a game is more fun to watch one with a lot of scoring or a 6-3 game? "Come on Man!" :-)

Yeah, they compiled those mighty rushing statistics against UTSA, Utep, UNLV, New Mexico State, and Pittsburg. Yeah, Pitts good, but anybody with a halfway decent rushing game is going to pile up ungodly numbers with that schedule.

I'm not trying to take sides on this. I like DC. I just don't like our tackling.

Still, you have to understand the people that aren't getting swept up in the nonsense. We've beat Idaho, UNM, UNC, and AFA. We lost to Texas State.

We'll see how we do in the final six games of the year, because the first half of the schedule was so weak it allowed people's expectations to sky rocket while the results on the field have been nothing but average at best.

I understand the fans that haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet. We haven't proven anything yet, except that our offense can pile up stats on crappy teams and our defense still has tackling issues.

I'm enjoying the wins, but I'm not ready to start predicting victories yet.

To be honest 7 of those points came from a muffed punt return so it's not that our defense blew it.

And playing four quarters of football wouldn't make that a bit more consistent?

6-0...the score of the 3rd quarter of the Alabama-CSU game in favor of CSU. Alabama, if you remember, still won that game 31-6. So while I agree winning every quarter would guarantee victory, even the #1 team in the country has "bad" quarters, as long as we score more than the other team for 4 total quarters is my #1 concern.
