For those of you Cowboy faithful that are really genuinely expecting a close game that could go either way, what's leading you to that conclusion. I don't see it, but I'm genuinely curious and willing to listen to reasons you've arrived at that conclusion. Most of the arguments I've seen against Nebraska or for Wyoming seem grounded mostly in sentiment (Wyo plays the big schools tough, has won big games before, Nebraska's losses to Wisconsin and Va Tech, etc.) Here's the simple breakdown for why I expect Nebraska to roll.

1. Your rush defense was about worst in the nation last year. Our rushing offense is one of the best.
2. Your strength is in the passing game. Our pass defense has been elite.
3. We don't lose home openers. Ever. Against anyone.
4. 1/3 of your starting lineup will be taking their first D1 snaps - nice play to do it in front of 91,000+ drunk and screaming.

What am I missing?

We have Brett Smith, who will take it to your secondary. You keep talking about how good they are, maybe you should realize that everyone ran the ball on you at will so no one needed to pass? Ask Texas fans about Brett Smith and Robert Herron.
We moved back to a 3-4 defense. We finally have big boys playing on the D-Line. And a group of swarming hard hitting linebackers.
Our secondary is pretty damn good, at times anyways.
Our WRs and QB are the strength.
Plus Nebraskas front 7 is pretty much brand new if I am correct?
Wyoming will be able to move the ball.
And Martinez the God over there in Lincoln turns the ball over, if we haven't mentioned that.

Oh and playing in Nebraska won't intimidate the Pokes. They have played in big places before, next argument?

You have, and I quote, "big boys playing on the D-Line."

The Wyoming depth chart lists your 3-4 D Line:

NT - Patrick Mertens, 6'5", 295lbs
DT - Eddie Yarbrough , 6'3", 253lbs
DE - Sonny Puletasi, 6'3", 247lbs

How are those "big boys?"

Yarbrough is a LB.
Puletasi is a DE/OLB

Uso Olive is 6'1 310 LBS at DT.
I don't know why it says Yarbrough is a NT.
We run a 3-4 remember ?

If I asked Texas fans about UW, they would say 37-17. That's cute that moral victories still count even in college.

We have three Robert Herrons on our football team.. It's sad that you have two solid players out of 22.

The Big Ten may run the ball, but they can still field better pass defenses and QB-WR groups than your powderpuff league. Great arguments beaver.

don't make the mental mistakes, move the chains, you can lose any given saturday, it's almost like you're talking yourself into what you may feel like if the miracle does happen. Dave Christensen has been in Memorial Stadium b4, and he's the play caller and can make necessary adjustments if needed as well. Come on man see the game for a game. it's almost like you wouldn't accept the win unless it's like 63-10, get over yourself. guess you don't remember what coulda happened in 1994, damn muffed punt. You guys are like killer bees, you have to attack in droves together.

I've actually done statistical analysis on our defense. While our run defense was terrible, the only teams to have less pass attempts against us compared to their season average were Ohio State and Wisconsin - other teams passed it an average amount of times or above average, but which much poorer production. Even so, if your argument held water, I'm not measuring yards and touchdowns. I'm measuring efficiency and pass completion percentage. A poor run defense would actually make good pass defense harder in those respects (having to sell out to try and stop the run), yet we were #1 in the nation in both.

According to the depth chart here (is this accurate? http://wyoming.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), your starting tackles weigh in at 248 and 260..? That can't be right, can it?

Our WRs and QB are the strength.

That's what I mean. Your strength plays into our strength, yet our strength (running the ball) plays into your weakness. Our front 7 is brand new. They'll prove on the field how good they are, but consensus opinion in Nebraska is addition by subtraction getting rid of so many players that just couldn't cut it. It seems we'll be faster and more athletic all around.

Wyoming will be able to move the ball.

How?

And Martinez the God over there in Lincoln turns the ball over, if we haven't mentioned that.

Not against defense like yours.

Our offense will score points and your defense only returns 4 starters.

Tennessee never lost at home to a non-bcs school either. Shit happens. And, someone has pointed out that you guys had 70 scored on you last year. Not much room to talk shit when something like that happens.

Go Pokes!!

Landlordos7, you seem to be convinced Wyoming is a truly terrible program and team with terrible players. Then why the fuck are you over here talking so much shit? If we really are no match for your fuckin Huskers why are you worried about it? Why are you over here talking shit? A fan of such a great program like yours shouldn't be worried. Don't like Wyoming fans being confident about their team? Don't come to a fucking Wyoming message board then!

Because we're Wyoming fans. We believe Wyoming can and should win every game they play, plain and simple.

It doesn't matter who, or where, or how good the opponent is supposed to be, the Cowboys should win.

And yes, we probably fit the numbers and the preseason reports and the stats from last season to make that leap, but it doesn't matter. We see the world through Brown and Gold glasses, and you should expect nothing less.

Deep in your heart, in that small little place you don't talk about, you know Wyoming can win this game. You know that Smith is every bit as good as Martinez, and our defense has no place to go but up. You know that we played you pretty close until late in the third quarter in Laramiein 2011. You know that Michigan lost to Appalachian State at home a couple of years ago. And you know the ball bounces in funny ways in every game.

Yeah, we shouldn't win this game. You're big, bad Nebraska, and we can never play in your sandbox. But we're Wyoming, and we know that we can.

GO POKES!

Im still absolutely confused why you are so insistent that Martinez is going to turn the ball over a ton against Wyoming? Martinez does very well with the ball against mediocre to poor defenses. Good to great defenses on the other hand

That's bad news for the Cowboys. Martinez may rush for 200 yards if that's the case. And a 253 pound DT in a 3-4???

You sir....are mad. Question.....how long will you be away from this board after Saturday night? This game is going to be a huge letdown for you the way you are talking.

Just to note, you'll see that lineup one week, the next they could all be different, except maybe Mertens. And linemen have been known to switch positions during the season, even during games. So, take it for what you will. Though, you forgot Siaosi Hali'api'api at the Buck position (6'2 240lbs).

Learn to read dipshit. Yarbrough is a LB not a DT. I don't know why he is listed at DT. Pelutasi is a DE/OLB.
Olive, our DT is 310 pounds. So keep laughing like a moron without even knowing what players we have playing where.

I can't wait to hear the announcers butcher that last name, its going to be like Suh used to play at NU. (Im not talking shit, I just am curious on how badly they are going to screw that up.)

Calm down, man. Truthfully, I'm not worried about it. I'm also not talking shit, unless you count giving my honest opinion on the overall capabilities of my team compared to yours as "talking shit". I'm here to talk football with opposing fans, and I've been entirely civil. I already understand believing your team can win just because they're your team (the post right after yours by wellpoke is a perfect response), and was asking an honest question if, outside of just believing in your team no matter what, there were compelling reasons why you thought you might have a real tangible shot to win.

Do you self-perpetuate this little guy complex on yourself? Because none of the stuff you're accusing me of is actually coming from you. I'm trying to have reasonable discussion and you're going off the deep end, or at least imagining some hostility or bravado that isn't there.

Lol it's going to be awful. I don't think most of his teammates can say his name correctly hahaha :)

Olive...the guy who never played a down in college football? Yeah good luck with that.....the size and inexperience I'm seeing for Wyoming leads me to believe it's going to be a LONNNNNGGGGGG day for your boys. Our O-line is maulers in the run game and we surely have far better depth than you do.
