WE WON THE GAME

DocHolliday said:
Win we did.

A win in what I considered to be a lackluster effort that would have cost us against a better team.

The fact that any team can go bowling with only 6 wins is a disgrace...then again mediocrity is now championed in America.

Lastly, 6 wins and bowl game might satisfy some, but for myself it does not.

I want more than 6 wins - I want 8-9 wins and I want to be in contention for a MWC Championship EVERY year.

Am I desiring something too unrealistic?

Oh yeah, I want a defense that can control the line of scrimmage more often than not and wrap up and tackle a ball carrier more than once in every ten tries.
And how do you build a program that contends for conference championships every year? It doesn't happen over night, DC is taking us in the right direction, but it takes time to build a program, and not just a winning team. We will be right there for the conference championship this year, every team in the mountain division isn't much better than NM outside of Boise. It takes time to build a program, so just relax and let him build it like he is doing.

Don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty damn tired of throwing a million a year at a coach...
And I am damn tired of this pathetic excuse of a fan base. We have been a shitty program for years, we can't just turn that around over night. This program is going in the right direction, DC is the right coach, and we need to pay him that kind of money to keep him here. I have never seen a fan base that has had minimal success, almost through the entirety of it be so pissed off at winning a game and being 4-2 and 2-0 in conference play.

Right turn, right turn... sorry, zero progress...

I desire the same thing plus beat good team who are nationally known like Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, etc....

Look it, I understand and generally side with those who say it takes time to build something of value - this is true of most anything...however I have seen no evidence whatsoever that DC has been able to develop a defense worthy of a championship season -- or a season in which a championship is contended for.

That, and lets be honest guys (and gals), there are high school teams that tackle with more consistency than the UW defense does.

Okay, so here's what quite a few people are basically saying;

"We suck!" "Get rid of DC!" "Even though we won, we should have lost!" "I wish we HAD lost!" "I refuse to enjoy this win and be 2-0 in conference play!"

Man shut the fuck up.

We won the game.

Have a problem with throwing millions at a coach? That's the way college football is now-a-days. You have to pay a coach top dollar to get W's. Have a problem with it? Take it up with your local congressman and try and make a change.
We won the game and you are pissed about it. Fucking amazing.

YankPoke is right in ripping your ass for being a shitty fan, you are.

What the fuck do you want? An undefeated season? Even if Wyoming won the National Title game, you would be pissed of because we had a WR drop a pass at some point in the game.

Can we remember what this is all about?
It's homecoming. It's college football. It's a beautiful fun activity that takes over America in the fall every year.
The point of a game is to go have fun, and cheer your team on to a win. It was a cold then warm then cold beautiful autumn day in Laramie, the Pokes won a conference game, and thousands of fans witnessed it. The team WON. I am happy as shit about the game!
Too bad we have such whiny fans that complain about everything.

I could care less what the defense looks like if we are winning games. It doesn't matter if you have a great defense, or a great offense. As long as you win the game. We have a top ten offense in the nation statistically so who cares what our defense does as long as they do enough to win. Look at Fresno that d is absolutely horrible, yet you don't see them complaining about winning shootouts every week.

I'm happy we won, concerned about the defense's consistensy sure, but we pulled out the 'W'. And I'll gladly take a close 'W' ANY day over a loss.

Where is the progress? Where was this program before DC? We have been a bad program for much of our history, and have some periods of great success. DC has taken us to what will be 3 bowl games in 5 years, we have the highest academic scores in the program history, we never have problems with kids getting in trouble with law enforcement. We have beaten the Sheep every single year, we have a top 10 offense in the country, we have a legit early round draft pick at QB, how many times has that happened? So yes there has been progress, and if you don't see that you are delusional.

I for one am not saying that at all.

I simply refuse to view this game (nor the state of the program) through brown & gold glasses.

Lets keep this in perspective, we beat a team that is not very good, which leads me to question just how good we are?

Certainly I don't believe anyone can look at the season to date and have great expectations for this team -- particularly because the defense is so damn awful. It's not just bad - it's crippling to any sustained success.

If New Mexico doesn't play hot potato with the football on their first two drives this game could have been much-much different.

If the objective is to get to 6 wins and be bowl eligible, if this is what some people will deem a success not matter the artistry involved, then I guess success in your minds is different than that of what I expect.

If we're a good team we blow the doors off of a team like New Mexico instead of building a 21-0 lead at home and then blowing it, winning secured only when we managed to pull ahead at the end...but not before allowing a backup QB to add one more score against that AWFUL defense.

As I noted before, I want an 8-9 win team each year and the realistic opportunity to contend for a MWC Championship.

I'd think that Tom Burman wants and expects the same thing.

If DC cannot get it done then bring me the next person who might.

I'm sick of being mediocre to sub mediocre.

Doc we will win 8-9 games this season, and the mountain division title will come down to the game in Boise. It doesn't matter what the defense does if the offense scores more points, look at Fresno who has a worse d than us by far. We will be right there for the MWC crown this season, and next season we very well could be the favorite for it with everyone we bring back, the schedule, and the people the rest of the conference is losing.

That is just what I see, more due to the fact that the conference is pretty bad this year, and USU without Keeton can't compete with anyone at the top. Next year we are the only team that brings back practically everyone, and everyone else at the top is losing a lot of key players. Plus next year we play the bottom of the West division, and have Boise and USU at home so the schedule is very favorable.

Fajardo of Nevada should not be overlooked, unless he's injured again.
